NS - Sold out?

now at least it's on the table that companies that have partnered with ns admins are allowed to make press releases while others that are not part of the ns admins cool guy club are not allowed to make press releases. To the members of ns, if you don't see press releases from predator, please understand that it's not because we don't want to make announcements.... or because we don't have worthy information, we're just not welcome to. But whether these admins like it or not, we are part of the newschool industry, we will make apparel intended for this niche, we will be sponsoring newschool skiers, we will be present at newschool events. cko, for a guy who has sold out to the brands on the right, either for money or to bolster your prescious elitist ego trip, you sure do a good job of making yourself look like you haven't sold out. doug, I don't believe I've disagreed with anything you've said to date. Peace bros. Skiing sure is fun.

it seems to me that there is too much shit talking going on here on NS. Whether its somone talking smack to another member, or someone talking shit about a new film company, shop, or clothing line. Those who do that sort of shit on here know that they can do so because they are safe at home. If they did this up on the hill face to face, (which they would'nt prob. do) they would end up getting beat down. The kids on here should be stoked on peoples efforts to create something new. sure if they don't like it or don't agree with someone on here then they are not forced to do so. But all this East against West, and Canada Vs. the States, and shop vs. shop CRAP needs to stop.

We are all skiers here, and this is not some wannabe rap war. Just keep all the negative talk outta here. It will make NS more united, and strong!

i dont see a problem that big on here. none of us is giving so much blood to ns.com than the mods and admins. and they try to make money out of it. what would we say if a membership on here costs e.g. 20 bucks a year. theyre doing the job and thats good. its a great page, my fav page in the web. i like the humour that is in the threads, but still the seriousity isnt lost on here.

i am on here for two years now, and i feel to be some kind of an oldie, and i got to say that ns.com didnt get worse. its already as informative than two years ago. there are so many people on here that are smart and dont use the anonomisity to make fun of people, groups and companies. some do, but some did always.

ns is so a moving and progressing community like there arent much in the world. there are of course some people that are trying to destroy the community but in my opinion ns is good, no matter who is sponsering it or how many companies are sponsering it. or is it spelled spponcerring? some of you may know that joke, it was hilarious once.

You've said your piece about it 100 times now. I respect your right to be angry because you feel slighted but lay it to rest.

These posts make your company lose some of its legit nature in the eyes of a lot of the members who read them. Predator has always come off as a roots company who's trying to make its way, in my eyes. The more you post these things though, the more you appear to be just like the little kids on this site claiming to have an outerwear company.

To everyone out there that "believes" they are in the "industry", airing your dirty laundry on NS is the most unprofessional thing I've ever witnessed.

Hey Doug,

Their are a few changes I would love to see made to the site,

first of all Admin's should not post unless it's a news item, or a totally factual event. Admins should not have opinions.

Second of all more updates on parks etc, I know that people would all be willing to take pictures of their parks and update it. I would personally be willing to take on the responsibility of Park updates for Blue Mountain.

Thirdly if a thread is deleted, the creator of the thread or the person who caused the deletion should be notified of why it happened.

and other than that NS could easily pick up more sponsorships if they went after them, NS is a powerful force in the Newschool Skiing industry, and with more sponsors it could grow and be even better.

I also would not oppose a $5 membership fee just so that someone being banned is a bigger deal and the alias's would stop.

i agree that it needs to be stopped, like the admins need to give a good example of being individual, etc. i got flammed the other day because i said i liked something that a lot of other people didnt like. i really dont care if all they have to say is "go get a life moron" or something like that, cause in the end i know its what i think that matters.

on the flip side, i have, and always will be, thankful to the mods/admins for this website. without it i would have never gotten into newschool skiing, which is pretty much all i think about 24/7 ( u know they say a guy thinks about sex like every 15 seconds or something, i think about skiing like every 5).

anyway, overall i think that the mods/admins have been doing a good job. granted i dont really pay attention to these kinds of things (mods removing stuff, people complaining and all) i just come here to see whats going on in skiing, and for that i am thankful.

personally i wish there was way more moderation. To me, deleting people's posts bashing on something, like, oh i dunno, h3o is WAY less useful than if you'd delete posts from mongoloids that come on to write: HEY WHATS UP!! The first picture in the gallery on your website is Adam schrab doing a way cool double misty (says the caption). bottom line is you just don't get it, and kendrick's posts on here don't help show otherwise. i wonder if kendrick's mogul buddies give him a reach around when he's in the "predator position", or if FIS bans that for breaking form.

I just wrote a bunch of stuff about how NS isn't selling out and how they're paying the bills to bring all of us something a little better. Then the page refreshed. Anyhow, they might even get to buy a house some day at this rate. Retirement will be so rewarding.

I also noted how I have contributed to CKO in the form of stories and photos. I spent a lot of time and interviewed a bunch of people who probably think I suck at writing now. He didn't want to use it and I'm not but-hurt (not too bad anyhow). That's his choice and I don't feel insulted because it's his site. He can do whatever the hell he feels like. The same goes for the people he hires. I don't find that very hard to understand.

We've kicked it before and are not really more than acquaintences and I'm not offended. I think it's about time to let that whole shit go man and direct your energy somewhere else.

Everyone has to make money. No one stays 15 forever. These guys are working for you. Just remember that. At least Doug took the time to hear your imputs. I'd have been like, "fuck it." How much did you pay for your Freeze, Powder or Freeskier subscriptions? How much do you pay here? How much would your parent's pay for you to spend as much time on here as you do.

in regards to press-releases and etc. The Armada issue was because at the show they made a specific point of the pictures not being leaked, and they were. (correct?) to my knowledge solomon, head or any company has never made the same efforts. If they were sending skis with new graphics "out" to the media or press with no expectation/agreement of secrecy and then asked the site to take down the new pictures of their skis, it would be a totally different situation.

Any company has to protect it's interests, if every company was allowed put out press releases, do market research and have in-depth discussions on products and room for improvement then why would anyone actually purchase advertising from NS?

When a company has enough cash to place full page ads in mags, and sponsor big name athletes they too have to act differently. There is no reason why any company with over a million in sales should have marketing reps/company directors conducting their business on this site. Doing so is actually called "guerilla marketing", and it's called that for a reason. McDonalds Reps would be kicked off the property of Grocery stores. I think the real value of this site for companies is having other people talk about their products! If you want get your product/company talked about, do something that the general skiing public will talk about on this site... FOR YOU!

Don't get me wrong, I think the presence of people such as kendrick and anyone directly involved in the industry is what makes this place great and better than other sport sites. But people don't conduct business on other peoples property, although we will let some kids sell chocolate covered almonds out front.

Why shouldn't admins have opinions exactly? As has been pointed out, they are some of the most informed, intelligent (sic) members of the site, and I enjoy reading what they have to say (although I dont worship their opinions like the bible).

I do however agree with the notification of deleted posts. If mods can take the time to read and delete a post, then they can surely spare the time to inform people that their posts have been deleted. Even the stupidly retarded have the right to common courtesy.

First, we are all VERY fortunate to have a site like newschoolers.com. Many thanks go out to Harvey, Doug, Chris et al. for their hard work. This place is amazing.

However, while I do appreciate the need to try and keep this site on a certain "core" track by being selective about who does and who does not get to advertise on here, it is nevertheless troubling that a small, select group of individuals have ultimate power and control over those decisions, especially in light of the massive audience this site attracts. I am in no way criticizing the current newschoolers.com staff, I am merely raising this as an issue in principle.

For example, while I have absolutely no idea what the particular facts are surrounding the Predator situation other than the he said/she said exchange in this particular thread, I do find it troubling that if a company doesn't fit an exact "core" mould in the eyes of one person then they are basically banished or stigmatized summarily. Perhaps newschoolers.com has earned such power? Or perhaps such power needs to be reined in? Frankly, I think it will be a sad day for skiing when someone else tells me what is or is not "new school" or "freestyle" or "freeride" or "core". We could -- and have already -- debated the meanings of the above terms till we were red in the face. You know what? Not everyone agreed on what they meant. And not everyone ever will.

This sport carries a lot of history, and we need to be reminded of that history on occasion when professing to chart its future course. This site has done wonders for the sport, but like it's been said earlier in this thread, it's become pretty saturated with, unfortunately, crap. Maybe that's an unavoidable consequence of skiing's resurging popularity? Or maybe another more "core" site will pop up tomorrow? Either way, I, too, miss the good ole days of when the FREEZE and PBP forums were in their prime...

in response to cjgncjgn's post, i think the mods and admins should definitely post on this site. they are the ones who have given their blood sweat and tears for this site. many of these guys are the originators of this site. the point is that these guys are no different than any of us. they all ski, they all have a passion for newschooling, they all have opinions and ideas. they started this site so they could get their ideas off their chest and vent to other skiiers and see if other people felt the same way as they did. thats the beauty of this site, its a forum where everyone has a say and a voice to state their opinion, even the mods and the admins. I say that the mods and admins should post even more, i feel as if their voices have been dorwned out by the stupidity of the angry 13 yr olds on this site. so my plea to the admins and the mods, keep posting. you guys are the insiders of the indstry and we would love to hear your opinions and thoughts and ideas.

As far as predator is concerned, I've been out with alot of those guys in the past. I went out with them to a photoshoot a while back, been at their headquarters, and my best friend has ridden with them for a while. I can tell you that everyone working behind it are some of the most chill people out there.

They are in skiing for the same reasons we are; because we love it. Their products are top quality and their staff are willing to listen and change.

^ i was wondering when someone was gonna make that comment. sure as hell wasn't gonna be me, cause i think that harvey is the godfather of this site and he gave up a lot more than anyone else for this site. but looking at the post very objectively... there is some validity to that comment.

 
To all the people that say there are no other real alternatives or other news sites.

SkiPress news is great for ski business news.

TGR forums are great for people that actualy know what they are talking about and like to ski.

Epic ski is nice if you like math i guess.

Even biglines.com has some decent information on it.

That said i think if you don't like the way things are run on NS you should just shut your mouth. Its a website that you get to use on the internet for free. You get to post pictures on it for free. You get to enter contests on it for free. You even get video and radio feeds on it for free. Its free. There is some good information, there is some bad information, and there is some stuff you don't agree with. Let it be. IT IS FREE.
