NS - Sold out?

Al_Smith:

"I dont think the admins should be as outspoken as they are because their opinions have a much different effect than your average newschooler. I dont really want to complain though because I live on this site."

I think you SHOULD complain because you live on this site...

That being said, it's unfortunate that our opinions are perceived differently than other members, it's not how we mean for it to be. How could we change this?

--

I'm too lazy to come up with a new signature so now it's this.

It would be very hard if not impossible to change that perception. You guys are at the heart of the action. You know all of the behind the scenes stuff, who's alias is what, what's going on in the industry and at all the camps and comps.

You are inherently in a position of authority. There's probably little you can do to change that perception so instead you should probably take it into consideration with every post. After all, you are industry professionals in a sense, your actions are noted not only by the members but by the rest of the industry as well.

cko I'm sorry. I was out of line calling you a shite box, or calling anyone names for that matter. I need you to understand why I became emotional and started name-calling. You said that we would never be more than a mogul brand while I knew damn well that we have been making freeride clothing since 2000 and have great dreams and plans in the works. While I should have valued your criticism more, perhaps you could have considered that you really didn't know what you were talking about regarding predator. Furthermore, you will notice that like a good little doobie, I have learned my lesson and have not solicited design ideas or tried to plug the brand that I started since then. Peace bros.

Deezel, I never really considered this before I guess... I'll keep it in mind for the future.

I'm too lazy to come up with a new signature so now it's this.

i dont think that there will ever be a way to change it unless you are not "known" as a mod. I mean it goes with most things, people in higher places of power on a certain topic generally have their comments taken a little more seriously than and average joe. Is this a bad thing? I think it can be sometimes and other times i think its good to have someone lay down a solid opinion that most people will agree with aka. a mods opinion. However it is not just mods that have this impact on people on this site in particular. The very well known members who post alot of good opinions often have the same effect on members. I dont think that this will ever be a thing that will change i think that what needs to be done is either be "hidden" or dont have opinionated comments. only post comments that will ask further questions to encourage the continuation of a good arguement or opinionated conversation, because if anyone with a red name were to choose a side there is a very good chance that side will win, i hope i have made at least a little bit of sense here. And by the way awesome job with the site i love it here keep it up.

-keegan mcginnis, newschoolers.com

You self righteous bitch...

why bring that up in this topic? it has no relevance... here you are complaining to the mods that someone doesn't like you... such a small small small matter in this world, yet you come on here and tell everyone to stop making a big deal about the actions that occur on this site (that is a part of their everyday lives) because of some disaster south east that has no relevance to skiing or the site at all?

hypocrite.

h3o sucks.

im not 13!

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

Thanks keegan, being in red wan't intended to make our opinions stronger than others, though I can see how this could be an issue.

However being in red won't make up for us posting shit, being disrespectful or just plain wrong. Because we have a perceivably higher status, it's the job of every member to point out when we have done wrong so we can get back on track.

If everybody only knew what our meetings were like... We have always put the core community ahead of ourselves, turning down much money and opportunity for the ideal of keeping things real. Overall I think we have been doing well, but there is always room for improvement.

--

I'm too lazy to come up with a new signature so now it's this.

oh on another note... i fully approve of turning down sponsors such as predator and other companies... i don't think they are newschool...

its your guys site, you can chose which companies you like and which you don't, hell if i owned the site id only want companies i liked sponsoring it... and im sure you guys have good taste anyways so all the power to you when deciding which companies can come on here and which cant

and by the looks of the list on the right, not bad at all.

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

I have not shortage of things to write on this whole topic, but I will resist delving into it, without thinking more about what I want to say.

There is one thing I just wanted to quickly interject before it's relevancy is past.

With regards to what CK, Doug, and Paul have said about sponsorship, money, and keeping it real. I can say with a clear conscience, that when I look to the right of the screen, I'm proud to see every single one of those sponsors there. If there were a bunch of Spyder and Adidas logos, it would be a different story.

So with regards to that issue I commend you guys.

Thanks, I know you're far from rich, and I appreciate the sacrifices you make.

We’re comin’ off with the crazy nigga shit that can’t nobody touch. -ODB

you really are ignorant assholes. i was making a point as a whole. this thread didn't start out having a damn thing to do with me, anthony, or h3o. i was stating a point in regards to everyone on this site. i included one point backing up macmahooon and another that it really is disgusting how much whining and bitching is done here about the stupidest shit while we are all sitting in our nice comfy homes with heat, ac, food, electricity, and most likely without having lost any loved ones in the past 24 hours.

shut up already about trying to save the world. sell your car, ride a bike, turn off your ac and become a vegan. hell donate your money to third world countries and live your life as a shepherd for all I care, but keep it out of this discussion!

Now you're talking!

That would be the best meeting of NS members of all time...

Increase the peace?

The only piece I'll increase is that which deletes your peeps.

im pretty sure that has nothing to do with "selling out" at all. that's just what happens when a site gets popular, younger people join. wierd huh? yeah i know

Anyway, a gas station we pass. We got gas, and ran off to get grub.It was a nice little pub in the middle on nowhere. Anywhere woulda been better. I ordered enchiladas and I ate 'em, Ali had the fruit punch.

no ns hasnt sold out, its turned into a fuckin empire its self... its awsome too. everyone that made it what it si obvioulsy knows their shit, you can see how doug is talking to us now to see how we actually think about it. sure there are stupid kids but Newschoolers is only getting bigger and better.

thanks to everyone who created what it is... i guess we all kind of did it, just by being skiers.

So long fried rice, hello fried chicken!

i'm also talking about the mods selling out to opinions on the site, if its not popular with them its taken simple as that, thus bring the post quaility to be a bunch of kids saying the same thing wow really what i want to read. the mods should stick to the terms and condions aspect not opinion or if some one is blasting somones name or company, its called opion and its everyone right on NS i thought.....

I hate to say it, but I think NS has gotten too big. Too many assholes come here now. I have not been here too long, but when I came here it was certainly not like it is now. It was a tighter community, people new each other, and more ppl were cool with each other. Now about half the ppl that post consistantly are asses about stuff. That is why I rarely post in the SG anymore.

:::PINK PANTHER:::

i'll start by saying that the thing i like most about newschoolers is the way the forums are laid out. they're alot better than the shitty windows based forums you see on pratically every other website.

as regards to opinions- i believe that most members here only read posts that are made by people who have a high post count next to their name. people need to realise that legidimate arguements aren't made by 3000 post members. read a thread before you post, and if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything.

No Props!

I think that this place is sick! and the fact that kids can say whatever they want (uncensored) is sick too but, I will say that sometimes people get deleted ahem myself ahem becuase other people Ahem SOXRIPPER ahem doesnt want it too be heard REGARdless if its a direct attack or not, but for how huge this place has gotten and with harvey leaving and shit i think the ADmins keep it real most of the time i just wish it was more consistant.

~Kevin

i also think they do a great job for what they have to deal with. i've only asked to had things about me deleted when the gentleman above me gets out of hand.

why is there all the hating think every single admin and mod is doing a good job god damn people make mistakes and they're not the problem in my eyes the problem is the negative vibe that ns gives out

'kevin whyed nils pull you out?' 'Cuz i was touchin bitches.' 'No seriously why did he put scott in for you.' 'Scott doesn't touch bitches.'

To tell you the truth I think that newschoolers is awful. This is not bassed on how the site is made or anything like that, it is based on how the people on here turn into park skiers who cant even make a turn. A lot of which are posers. There are so many negative kids on here who are just blantant assholes. They come into the park with there 4 xl pants and there huge oakley coats all hunched over trying to be something they are not. People just focus to much on being "good" and looking "steezy" that it has ruined skiing. I am not saying that it is all bad, because there is some good information on here. I am sorry to all who I have offended but I think that people should just chill out ski however is cumfortable and keep it real.

People have been complaining about the lack of quality posts and loss of the community feeling since the site broke 5000 members, possibly way before that. Yay nostalgia.

If you want to read better posts, start some better threads. Rise above the poop.

If members are looking up to green and red names, could it is time to bring back the yellows? Maybe members will look up to the guys and girls in gold and follow their lead too.

This thread has all the stars talking, myself included may I add. Basically I said my peace, and its noted.

But I just had to comment again, I noticed someone say this site is a site they actually enjoy being on, its so true, I enjoy this site, and I enjoy being a member for these past few years.

To Doug, Paul, and Chris, you guys have some amazing work here, and I love you for that, the site is the best, as for the shit talking, moderating, player hating, sister loving, and just plain ridiclous shit that gets said on here is soley the actions of newschoolers.com community and its members. You do not have the power to control what they all say, its just the turns the site makes as a large, 60,000+ member community.

Great work.

I think this site is still AWESOME. I meet people to ski with at hood, I ski with cool people I never would have skied with if it hadn't been for NS. Any event, or anything at all to do with the industry, I can find info on. There are awesome sub-communities within NS (Art, photography, stuff like that). Anywhere where this many people with the same interest can gather is sweet in my book. There are opportunities to be had on NS too. People saw my buddy abe's art on here, and now he gets to design ski topsheets, he never could have gotten that opportunity without NS.

This site is such a big gathering place for skiers, that I think you have to look past people who make unintelligent or insulting comments and look at all the good things.

ill be super rich and own mt.hood and let everybody from ns ski for free... except freezed

At the end of the day there is no true "news" source in this industry. The majority of news comes from the press releases of those companies that the news involves. Whether that is good or not is left to be debated. The problem is access. The press releases are all the consumers in the industry have to enable themselves to be informed with the progression of the industry. Even the magazines do not effectively act as a true "news" source. Question is do we need one and does the industry have enough happenings out there to keep such a source/publication alive.

In terms of the views on newschoolers, I agree with Bishop. I think it somewhat stimulates creativity within the freeskiing industry as it allows for the consumers of the industry's products to vent their likes, dislikes and responses to the marketing campaigns enacted by the conglomerate of organisations that make up the commercial sector of this industry. And, as i have witnessed in the passed, those organisations do truly listen to the views expressed on this community.

On the other hand, the only issue with new schoolers, in terms of the forums where everyone makes known their viewpoints, is the frequency of shit that is published by individuals. Everyone is guilty of posting shit at some time or other and that's fine, people have a right to publish whatever they want on here. My greivance though relates to the necessity to consistently cyphen through the shit that is posted by members in order to discover the communities overaching viewpoint on a certain issue. Whether a system can ever be developed to aid the cyphoning process on the forums or not may require investigation. In an ideal world however, you would hope that people could take the time to think first, before posting to eliminate some of the shit on that does end up on this site and avoid people becoming overendulged by their emotions.

That's my view, agree with it or not, its up to you.

Disclaimer: My criticism in this posted is in now way targeted towards any individual, organisation, cult or community. It is writen to further the betterment of Newschoolers.com.

when i first came to this site 4 years ago (on another name), this site was still as opinionated as it is today. back in the days of mikehunt and phatt tim and others, people exercised their right to post their thoughts on topics and sometimes their thoughts weren't too pleasant. but that was what was and still is awesome about ns.com. i think before, everyone on this site was about helping each other out, helping out this fledgling sport grow into what it is today. people wanted to hype up the sport and invite others into the complexities of newschool skiing. everyone was helpful while still stating their opinions, even the mods.

but nowadays, i feel as if there are too many punk ass 13 yr olds who have a computer and think it is their right to mouth off other ppl and companies cause they have a name on this site. the mods are more "PC" trying to please everyone. now the site is all about XXXL pants and chads gap and how this kid is the next unknown blah blah blah. this site has become what everyone had made fun of for years... the old freeze forums.

like the others have stated, CKO Doug and Paul, you guys are industry insiders. you know SOOOO much more than the average rider here on ns.com. you have insight to camps and pros and gear and etc etc. you guys should lead by example and kinda push and progress this sport because you guys are in the position of power to do so. BUT my main point is that I hope you guys still do it while being who you truly are. yes you guys are mods, but deep down inside, you are no different than any other skiier on this site. you still get hyped about skis and the upcoming season (so i hope) etc etc. i feel as if Doug you wanna be like FUCK YOU to so many different ppl but you hold back b/c you are a mod and have to be politically correct. I say fuck that. say fuck you to those ppl you don't like, be opinioned. beacuse thats the foundation of this site. and i hope you never lose that sight.

I hope that this site will go back to its glory days when ppl were actually here to talk about skiing, back in teh day when ppl were hyped about other ppl's accomplishments. Deep down inside i know that will never happen cause this sport has become too mainstream.. in the end, i don't think that NS.com has sold out, but its the sport of newschool freeskiing itself.

I like ns just as it is

WTF, I just got my post deleted and all I wanted to do was reminisce about the old Freeze forum. Those were the old days, like the untamed wild west. No mods...hell...half the disgusting posts were made by freeze employees themselves. You guys are out of control with the delete stuff. Pay homage to the brothers who came before you, before you even knew what freeskiing was.

I think what everyone REALLY needs to realise are the sacrifices that doug, CKO, and paul take. I mean, they could have EASILY just given in and gotten huge companies to advertise on the website, bringing in lots of money. But no, they've kept it "real" and i find that amazing that three people are willing to sacrifice essentially cushy living for 30,000+ ingrateful assholes.

I love this website, though i am at time annoyed with the 12yr olds coming on ehre thinking they are god.

I'll say that NS is still pretty rad. With nearly 70,000 names (some unused, fake, doesnt matter), its not the easiest thing to control. I remeber visiting this site about 11 months before I joined, it may have had community (I couldn't speak for that, but Im sure it did) but it just didn't have much content, so what the site has today is wayyyy cool.

This is still the best forum. Its not some generic piece of shit that looks like all the other forums, with all the stupid smileys, etc. Sure, some of the posts are shit, but there has always been that... but now theres just more of it. However, there is also better information. Information pops up on here all the time about pretty much anything skiing. Whether it be from friends, professionals, whatever, it usually ends up here. Otherwise, we would never know.

I'll admit there is some annoying stuff on here, mostly from seemingly brainless people, and all the hype threads about some friend of somebody and how they are sooooo good or how a company is sooooo good gets a bit annoying. Speaking of which, I don't know how some people can be so stoked on ninthward. Seriously, companies get teams to promote product. These team athletes are representitives, and many from ninthward smeared shit across the name of ninthward, but whatever... At least you dont have to wait days on end for threads of interest to be posted in. It's pretty rapid, which is nice. Good photos and videos, too.

Some really cool people are here admist the retards. I know I've met some really cool people, many of which are good friends of mine. Whether it be regional or cult, cool stuff goes down. so another rad.

And another thing, those that run the site are pretty selfless. They fork over time, and money (not so much anymore) to keep it going, so props to that. If i didnt piss so much cash away, I would donate even more money.

eh, not sure if any of that really made any sense.

oh, and ns radio is sick

overall, NS is still the best

If this site dissapeared, then I think most people would realize just how good a thing it really is.

At some point in my soberity i may have the time to read all this but in the shor blurbs I have read i find most of Ns retarded have we forgotten the humble beginnings of NS?? There was no red blue or green!!! I find the mods even the admins to be held on the same leve las the rest of NS...Yes they do more than us to keep NS alive.. Is that appreciated...OF COURSE but to hold them to a higher standard becuz of color absolutely not!! NS is what it is becuz of its originality!!

Theory3 Media in association with Poorboyz Productions presents the wonderful sport of skiing and laughter, in SAFETY MEETING. Summer 2005.

To start things off I think that this site has done as much for the sport of newschool skiing as any other single media resource in skiing. I thank everyone who has helped make this site what it is today. That said I do have some critiques of the site from my own viewpoint.

To comment on the argument that the community has been growing so much that the content of the forums has suffered is bull. NS has had shit talkers for as long as i've known about the site (about 4 years now).

I also really appreciate the efforts NS has made to maintain its core attitude. This beyond anything else is what i admire most about the site. You promote companies that promote the sport of skiing for more reasons than their financial interests and that is something that is truly admirable and the main reason why i continue to use this site regularly.

The one thing that i do find a little bit disturbing is the content which is sometimes deleted on here. I don't think it necessary to delete ANY shit talking posts (simply for the fact that everyone on here is entitled to their opinion however abstract or obscene it may be). Its freedom of speech and allowing people to filter through it is their right not the right of newschoolers.com. In the past i have had a few of my posts deleted for reasons that i simply couldn't understand. opinions are what make this site great. people can openly express how they feel and expect to have interiguing and in depth conversations about everything skiing related. It is newschoolers.com's responsibility to be unbiased to any opinions and to allow the community to freely share and discuss ideas. Deleting posts in order to lead a discussion in one way or another is something that i am really afraid of. and i hope it never comes to that.

Keep up the great work and keep promoting the sport i and almost 68,000 other NS.comers love.

-matt

^see, I would have no problems whatsoever with a mod deleting the shit like that. Useless.

I would just like to see equal treatment. It has been mentioned, but the way the 9thward people were acting before was disgusting. They were constantly bagging on people in a childish manner. Anybody else acts like this and they get deleted, no questions asked. It seemed to me that they were being given special treatment.

On the other side of the coin, as the dave said, I am proud to see the sponsors lined up on the left. I just hope that we dont see an influx of minor, semi-newschool sponsors, predator being the case in hand.

And, as a source of information, NS still reigns supreme. It just takes a little longer these days to sift through the extraneous shit.

Props to the guys who run this site.

NS is so far from having "sold out" that it's not even funny.

"Mistakes don't make sellouts". Nobody's perfect, shit happens. Forgive, forget, and we all learn from it.

Your efforts at staying true to the sport have been noted, and we're stoked that NS is still around. Bitching about shit doesn't help anything. Constructive criticism and debate? Still good as far as I'm concerned.

If I didn't like it, would I still post here? I don't think so.

You said it.

Constructive criticism and debate are what I wish every day would happen more on here.

If we could all make elloquent posts, and really bring out the issues in skiing it would make for such better content.

This thread has been a pretty damn good example of that if you ask me. People have been telling it how they see it, and instead of just calling each other gay, have been responding with well-written replies.

Oh, and thanks for all the love guys.

And for those who don't like us: Fuck you. Get off the site.
