NS Posters

I'm moving into a new flat in a few days and I was thinking about stuff to decorate my room with. I printed off a bunch of the desktop pics and they look pretty dope. but this got me thinking..

NS posters would be a really sick idea, but since the community is so global postage would be a bitch and a large cost to NS admin. The internet is all about sharing information and the price of large format colour printing is coming down quickly, at the uni print shop I can get A3 prints made for $1.

I think it would be awesome if some of the best photos taken at NS organised events or otherwise were made avaliable to download at high resolutions for printing locally.

It would serve as a good advertising tool for NS at little cost as the only cost would be hiring a photographer to take sick shots and then editing and inserting the ns logo or something. the other costs would be paid by the consumer at the other end. with the posters displayed in dorm rooms, flats, bedrooms and maybe even ski shops across the world exposure would be great as people would see the NS address attached to a rad picture of someone killing it and get a bit of an idea of what they can find at the site.

anyway, just a suggestion.. your thoughts?

That sounds like a great idea - and i agree with the difficulty of global postage - Posting worldwide in a poster tube wouldn't be cheap either
 
i think members should send in their shots and then NS should make posters out of the best ones...another contest maybe??
 
Really good idea. Seriously. Wow.

Pros & events would be dope. I need some more posters to put up in my dorm other than 'Yeah Dude' and 'LSS' posters... I want to show my involvement in NS!
 
well, it wouldn't be buying one from NS as such, cause ideally you would be downloading it and taking it to a print shop to get printed out
 
You guys realize that the value of a photo to the photographer is almost entirely determined by its circulation? If it's being used, essentially, as an ad for NS.com with a huge base of circulation, the photographer, very rightly, will want to be paid a hell of a lot more for it. As a result this could actually end up costing the site quite a bit more than you might think.
 
and to an unknown photographer, greater circulation = greater recognition therefore increased likelyhood of contracts in the future.

theres a load of am photographers on here, why not run an 'undiscovered talent' comp to on here to find a good photographer, the prize for him/her is a ton of exposure and the prize for newschoolers is high rez photos for poster making.

just gotta look at the positive side of things with a 'can do' attitude and things like this can happen. it doesn't necessarily have to cost alot at all.

anyways, on the money issue, surely 411vm has some photographers that work for them on contract as opposed to freelancers who would charge for individual photos.
 
What if there was like a template you could download sorta like a frame that has ns stuff then you could upload your own photo and have a print shop print it then it would be an ns poster with your picture
 
yea but then you'd have trouble finding the picture to use, unless you happened to already have a good high quality pic. most of the pics you find on the net are low resolution to optimise for download speed, they aren't intended for printing.

for example, to print an a3 poster at a lowish resolution (150dpi) requires a photo of 1650px x 2400px or at a higher resolution (300dpi) 3300px x 4800px.

an a2 poster would require a photo 2400px x 3600px or 4800px x 7200px respectively.

for comparison the desktop pics in the media section are 1280 x 1024
 
Ya this would definitely be awesome to see. I don't think the whole photographer pricing is much of an issue really, I'm sure there are tons of am's that are on this site that would do it for cheap or even free, hell, I know I would.
 
I did this with the NS frontpages it turned out pretty sick but imagine how dope it would be if you could get bigger posters of a similar nature!

A cool photo idea could be having everyone on the site contribute a picture of themselves. Imagine a HUUGGGEEE collection of the thousands upton thousands of mini members goggle faces. With a Huge NS.COM logo across the top, and a Phrase on the bottom that says something like, Join the Family
 
it could start off using like past covers or something. the guys who take ns cover pics already make loads of money and i doubt a deal would be hard to come by. on the other hand, the cover archives are already pretty close to high resolution and anybody could pretty easily make their own poster and add an ns logo. im not sure if thats entirely legal but if theyre never actually sold for money i dont see how its not.
 
thats perfect.

you could be railing a girl missionary, and be like flipping through the NS cover pages. Only 1, your having sex, 2, its being done hands and computer free, and 3, if you love skiing as much as we do, well your on scene to put out a fire with more pressure then a fire hydrant.

This is an awesome idea. I would love some NS posters to put in my rooms, i only have print outs of certain desktops right now. I think this would be great advertisment as well to put posters in ski shops and at mountains.
 
Nice bedroom for that dude.

With the posters, if it was too much of a cost for the photographer, their could be like a $5 download cost to get the picture, i'm sure the majority or people wanting these pics would pay that. Not sure if it would work though. Great idea!
