First off, not to hate, but coming from a vet background I do not recommend bulldogs, pugs, boxers, etc unless you have started a savings account now for the huge vet bills that you'll pay because they are riddled with genetic conditions like breathing problems, heart disease, etc.
I'm a big fan of the active working and herd breeds (having two border collies myself), but don't expect anything that doesn't need a ton of exercise (and mental stimulation in the case of border collies, german shepherds, and aussies) and sheds (esp huskies) from those kinds of dogs. Great dogs though, intelligent and loyal and love doing just about anything with you.
Unless you get a small breed dog (not including terriers, which may be small but are quite active) you are going to need to take your future dog out to play/get exercise no matter what. But if you are going for medium sized, friendly, can chill or be active, and doesn't shed a lot...maybe a spaniel? I had an english springer spaniel as a kid and she was awesome. Met a boykin spaniel once that was super chill too. Labradoodles are good in that they are cute and don't shed but kind of a gamble... I've met some really cool ones and some idiot ones before.
Kind of long....but hope it helps!
