1) One person per week will pick a theme(I will start, and then the winner of this week will pick the next theme)

2) Take as many pictures as you want that in some way incorporate the theme. You will have 7 days to take the picture, and upload it.

3) Select your favorite photo and edit accordingly with post processing. Just remember, this isn't supposed to be a photoshop contest

4) Submit one photo HERE

https://newschoolers.com/web/mediacontests/rules/cid/4/

(it is set up as the video contest right now, but you can still upload photos.....)

***Please submit random photos to test the system.....****

5) Photos must be taken, as part of the assignment, during the time period of the contest. Don't reach back into old albums just to get a good photo.

7) Remember, the contest runs for 7 days to take a picture and upload, and then another 7 days for all of NS to vote.

Also, it is set up for 1 vote per person. Comments are also allowed.

6) This is for fun, bragging rights, and perhaps some karma for a really nice photo, and most importantly.. FUN.

- Oh, and Bishop mentioned prizes if anyone is interested in those.......

I think 1 week should be fine. This is about creativity with a camera, and some of these shots will turn out best when they aren't planned.

The contest will probably start sometime next week, and i will announce the theme. I need to work a little more on the contest layout.

They were just intro threads that were somewhat sloppy and ended up getting deleted, this is the final sticky

Once the winner of each week is announced, i will talk to them about their upcoming choice to make sure that it can be interpreted not only through skiing images.

I'm sure most of the themes could use a variation of a ski picture, but try to be creative with other ideas.

I would like you to delete the thing about editing your photo before sending it. If you dont know how to make a good photo, well, dont enter the thing. And it would give a chance to people who are good to get known forTAKING good photos, not editing it better than his friend.

Well cropping/color correction is just like using filters/cropping in a darkroom, so small amounts of editing should be allowed.

I'd say that the picture size should be like one size, like 1280x720 (wich is 16:9) and I dont think that anyone will be using darkroom stuff in here, maybe, but well. So I vote no editing.

I have never met a professional photographer who would tell someone not to use any type of editing after using a digital camera. It is always required. I took part in small internship at a studio, and every single picture they take is sent in to a separate studio for professional re-touching and editing.

I understand there is a point at which photoshopping and adjusting the features to completely change a picture should be stopped, and any picture that does not meet the standards or appears to be too graphically enhanced will be removed.

mmm, aight then. I just wanted to make a statement about editing too much, but anyway. I'm kinda happy with the outcome.

And please make a rule about the size of the picture. Thanks.

I do not think that is important. But it is important to note that not every picture is the same composition. Examine how the size of this image is crucial. All sizes will be allowed.

word, pictures should be unedited. shows how good a photographer can be, but i think you can lighten/darken the pic if necessary.

Please, try to understand that editing a picture is part of photography. I will mention again, I understand there is a point at which photoshopping and adjusting the features to completely change a picture should be stopped, and any picture that does not meet the standards or appears to be too graphically enhanced will be removed. I guarantee all professionals use a type of editing software. Maybe not as drastically as some amateurs, but if you know anything about photography you know that the image on the camera/computer is very different from that of a print.

On another note, if someone takes a perfect picture, who's to say if it is not photoshopped? Again, please just understand i will do my best to make sure all images meet a certain standard.

Not even. I don't claim to be a good photographer, even not considering my self one, but I think that if you can't take a photo correctly, you just shouldn't be entering the competition. I would like to see people with 35mm and 16mm film cameras these days, they wouldn't shoot 4 miniDV tapes and 400 pictures in one day to get maybe one or 2. You have to think before taking a picture, not point and shoot. I seem like 50 y/o guy who saw photography turn into digital and hate it, but the thing is that it takes the talent and thinking behind TAKING pictures, not redoing it after you've taken it.

The bad thing these days is that everything is OK, or 'good enough' not excelent. If its OK, or good enough, its not good, and thats it. If you make something, make its GREAT, not OK.

I will create a separate thread for each week, as well as posting the topic in this thread, reminding people of the rules, and gaining more interest. This weeks contest has not started yet, and i will announce it after the complete system is up and working. Should be sometime next week

I understand and respect your opinion, but I still hold by my own. All my photographs will be as pure and unedited as possible, it's just the style I like. I'm kinda old school and simple.

Guys, just letting you know that I have been working one some designs for the contest layout, and it shouldn't take much longer.

The only thing I'm a little concerned with is the voting system, and I need to talk to bishop to maybe set it up a little different. I think right now that because not everyone is going to vote for every single picture, the contest results may be a little biased.

(For example, a picture getting 20 votes of 10 and 1 vote of 9 will yield a less overall score than a picture getting just 1 vote of 10)

work out some deal where you have to vote maybe 10 times before you can upload a picture or something.

It was originally going to be hosted on a separate site, with this type of system, but because it is set up on newschoolers, its changed. Hopefully we can work something out

you're kinda simple? haha nah jokes.

editing doesn't really matter that much, because no amount of editing is going to make up for poor composition or a poorly exposed photo or other wise bad in some way.

the thing with editing is that you can only work with the data that you have originally captured anyway, well unless you're doing stuff like composites and using different backgrounds or otherwise. but still, the same could have been done with film if you had all of the equipment. digital editing has just made the whole post production side of photography alot more accessible than before.

I can see problems already. Somebody can possibly vote 100000 times for one photo, There would have to something to make people to only vote once. this could simply be as easy as having to enter your account and vote with your account number or something as numbers are easier to track in programs than letters(as there are less).

Other than this the idea is great.
