I've decided that until I can further update the NS voting system, i am going to host this at another website. I have everything ready to go there, so this will run as a type of practice simulation, and will allow two more weeks for additional updates to the NS one.

1) One person per week will pick a theme.

THIS WEEKS THEME - MACRO

2) Take as many pictures as you want that in some way incorporate the theme. You will have 7 days to take the picture, and upload it.

3) Select your favorite photo and edit accordingly with post processing. Just remember, this isn't supposed to be a photoshop contest

4) Submit one photo HERE

5) Photos must be taken, as part of the assignment, during the time period of the contest. Don't reach back into old albums just to get a good photo.

7) Remember, the contest runs for 7 days to take a picture and upload, and then another 7 days for all of NS to vote.

Also, it is set up for 1 vote per person.

6) This is for fun, bragging rights, and perhaps some karma for a really nice photo, and most importantly.. FUN.

This is somewhat of a test, depending upon the pictures recieved the winner MAY recieve an additional prize.

Remember, images must be emailed to me before 8:30 pm on monday December 10th. GOODLUCK
 
haah at first i thought you said marco i was like wtf does that mean. my macro lens sucks though
 
Remember, this is a NON SKI ORIENTED contest. sure, ski photos will work, but this is for best overall MACRO PICTURES!! post a picture of a fly, a coin, a mouse, a flower, whatever! as long as it is macro and it is obvious that you took it this week. if i see pictures of a summer skateboarder i will not post it!
 
doesn't matter, some of the best pictures in the world can be taken with a disposable, as long as the subject is good. just participate, you never know!

a macro image is an upclose image of something, usually something small, for example here is a picture of an insect i took

Macro is super close focus, as shown here:

As compared to a landscape or portrait.
Usually a very shallow range of focus, large apertures are the norm to achieve this. Bust out your F1.2 if you got it. I sure don't, but wish I did.
 
Macro isn't hard, it could be anything from nature to abstract to portrait (even partial portrait)!

If this wasn't my heaviest week for exams I'd for sure be interested, although I MIGHT have time this weekend to take photos... if my camera decides to co-operate...

Either way, I highly urge people to participate in this if you can, and don't be scared off by the idea of a competition!
 
Serious question, do scanning electron micrographs (what you'd see through an electron microscope) count? Doesn't get much more macro than that.
 
I personally don't think they should. because if you have access to an SEM, your one of about one in 100,000 people that does, if that. Then again it's not really photography imo but let the thread maker decide
 
I wouldn't mind, but remember it needs to be YOUR recent picture, not some old file you find. besides, its up to the people voting if they like the image or not.

Really dude i would be so pumped if u put one of these contests out for making edits. Like a contest to get lesser known crews out there. That would be ill, like a early season battle my crew, with no limit to crew size and only as u said like one week to make and edit.

guys, this is supposed to remain somewhat anonymous. tell your friends if you want, but try not to make it publicly known.
 
why anonymous? are we not supposed to be proud of our images? Also, more people will read about it, and want to enter when they see pictures.
 
its based on a picture, not a popularity contest. I dont see any reason to need to announce which one is yours, i was planning on doing that at then end. But it isnt really a huge deal
 
You mentioned you had a sister site that was going to host the images for judging correct? So maybe as they come in add to it and then on the 10th open it to votes. I think it is important for people to see entries as they come in, as that is the nature of competition. my 2 cents.
 
Incorrect, the pictures will be hosted in a separate thread that will replace this as a sticky(i believe), with all of the images posted. Each image will then contain a number(#1, #2, etc) and you will vote on the provided link for each number, and then after voting you will be able to see the structured votes and their percentages.
 
Also, the competition is supposed to be an equal amount of time for all competitors, to capture the images AND judge them.

fair enough. sounds like the same system on fredmiranda.com with the exception that you cant see the entries beforehand.
 
2 days left. about 7 entries so far. That means you have a 1/8 chance winning some DVDs if you just scrape up a picture today or tomorrow of something cool.
