NS Photo Contest Resurrection- Week 1

okay i know this has worked in the past and i want to bring it back, but, it's gonna work a little differently this time. i got this idea off FM and TGR. basically the way this contest works is that i'll start out with a theme and the contest will last for a week. after the week is up, the winner will be in charge of creating the next theme and judging the next contest, that way we get a new set of eyes to look at the pictures. if the winner fails to do so within 3 days of winning, the runner-up becomes the new winner.
i see incredible talent on ns and it'd be awesome to put that to use and compare it with a theme in mind. this is about expressing yourself and being creative through your photos, for example, if the theme is animals, you don't need to post a straight up picture of your cat, you can be creative as long as it either fits in the guidelines or you have a convincing argument that makes it fit.
so, for the first week, the judging will be collaborative, you can't vote for your own, and person with most votes wins and gets to pick the new topic. if that doesn't work, i'll just pick which one i like best ;)
Rules:-you may post 2 photos max per topic-your photo must relate somehow to the topic-post your own photos please-winner must post the last themes in the new thread-no blatant slandering of photos, if you want to bitch out a photo, give a way in which it could be improved
this contest's theme will be Action, i'm starting with a broad category just to get this launched. so post any sick action shots you have or shots that show action about to happen, it doesn't need to just be a snapshot of something moving really fast, it can show potential energy or whatever you want
the contest ends on wednesday june 3rd, hopefully this can work out. this contest will work out if people take it somewhat seriously and if the winners come through on their end and create new topics. i think it has the potential to be awesome if people cooperate
also, just a note, when posting pics in a thread, the color tends to get drained out, before you judge a photo, click on the full size one so you can see the true colors

I think it should stay in M&A - you can always just link it through a thread in NSG. M&A needs some action somehow! Get it active!!
 
Nope, nice try though.

This two limit rule is killing me I'm having a lot of trouble picking what to use...

You should up the limit for the following weeks because who doesn't like more quality photos? The more the merrier if you ask me.
 
dope idea, there should be a cult for this, cause assuming there will be a new thread every week, and there will be aton of contest entries, so 5 photos per contestent, per contest?
 
HERE'S THE WAY THE VOTING WILL WORK
the winner of the contest will choose 5 photos in which they feel are the best ones. then people can vote on those 5. because the winner won the last contest i will presume that he/she knows enough about photography to pick the best 5 photos. for the first round i'm gonna get someone's help and we'll pick the top 5 photos and then you guys vote

one more thing, LABEL YOUR PHOTOS WITH EITHER A NUMBER, LETTER, OR NAMEthat makes it much easier to vote and to pick the top 5
 
Not really, no. Just because they win, doesn't mean they know shit. There has to be a way to do it like FB does with their world photo contest, where you "like" the photo you are voting for. And everyone should be able to vote on ALL the photos. The person with the most votes wins.
 
i was just thinking it would be better to have someone narrow it down to 5 photos so that the voting is easier and also it's generally gonna be the same people voting so the same style of photos will get chosen, this makes it so that there's variation in the winners
just a thought, throw out other ideas also, it'll take a bit of fine tuning to get this right, but i think part of the reward of winning should be hosting the next contest as well as having a say in the judging

I think submitting 5 is way too much. You should be able to edit it down. I think people submitting 5 will just whore it out. But that is just what I think.
I like the voting. Everyone picks their top 5 after June 3rd.
I'm going to work out, shower and start thinking of something.
 
I agree with this. I actually think you should only be able to submit one. It keeps the clutter down. You'll have a certain amount of time to submit your photo. Then at the end of that time frame, a voting thread could take place where you post the name of the member you are voting for. Bam, winner. Its actually a really easy process that doesn't need to be confusing.
 
One would be even better but I figured too many people would bitch.
Everyone has a week. Thats a lot of time. Narrow it down to one should not be hard at all.

i still think that the photos should be taken the week of the contest. this gets people shooting more and IMO shows more of their talent because they wont just post a best shot ever taken, they will post something that they needed to create within a given time frame

also in terms of voting we can just have everyone say which ones they like and narrow it down at the end of the contest, that is why PLEASE LABEL YOUR PHOTOS, it makes it so much easier to choose them
in terms of taking it during the week of the contest, not everyone gets opportunities or has time to take sick shots in a constrained period if time and there're some winners waiting to be shared so i think that would limit down the quality of the contest. this isn't as much about photographic skill but more just about photos that "wow" you. let's keep it this way for now, see how it works out, obviously changes can be made at any time
 
lol thats what I figured. I hate it when people turn in old stuff in school. However true with what a few people said is the time issue. Granted I work full time, but I still make time for me to be able to shoot.
 
i think it should depend on the assignment and how accessible it is to everyoneanyone can take 10 mins out of their day to go take a picture, so if it were macro or something then anyone could go outside and get a closeup. but if it was action or something, not everyone can go out and get sick ski shots
 
You should for sure only do 1 photo, that way voting can just be by user name, not "no_steez, 3rd one down"
makes it easier to tabulate.
 
exactly. thats the point of a photo contest... its to get people to shoot. to give them an "assignment," not to just post something from before. BUT, this is just my opinion, and i am not making the contest, so do with it what you will. i will participate either way!
 
I totally get what is being said here, and I think its a great idea. The problem is, not everyone here can make the time to go out and shoot. Which makes the participation in these things minimal. I think if its going to work and not be forgotten about like that last time, it should be any photo from whenever. Use your own motivation to make yourself go out and shoot that weeks theme, you know? No one is stopping you from doing that. Or you could even have a couple themes dedicated to the photo being taken that week. Or depending on how successful is, it could be something established at a later time after seeing who participates enough. Something like that would work too. I just don't want the contest to die and be forgotten, so it has to be photog friendly. Not everyone is a serious photographer on here.

And that's just my opinion. Like you, I'll participate anyway!
