NS Movie Volume 2: Questions/Ideas

This Thread is here to answer all your Questions for Volume 2 of the NS movie, you can also pitch any cool ideas you have here

An article will be up tomorrow outlining the entire movie.

There will not be a minimum resolution so you can submit both HD and DV footage, but the aspect ratio must be 16:9, this way there won't be any stretching, as for framerate, the standard framerate is usually 29.97 on most cameras, i would prefer if you didn't use 24 unless you're shooting on film, but by all means, if you want to shoot at a higher framerate for slow mo, go ahead

^^ there should be. minimum picture quality the best would be HD but i guess not enough people have HD cameras..and also filming should have to be of a certain standard.. otherwise the movie will be hard to watch and not really flow.. other than that.. i think if someone would be willing to accept footage and edit it.. people should be able to submit just one or two clips.. and have some "misc" sections so that lots more members can feature.. make it more truely NS-wide..

Next year, i think more people will have HD, so for now, we're gonna keep it open

as for the 2 clips idea, we want this to be a movie, not a mash up of 100+ riders, it's really to promote the best riders of NS that season, having only a few clips each would be a logistical nightmare, the way we're doing it this year, there will be about 20 riders in the movie, which i think is a good number for the movie

yes, I have addressed this in the article, there will be a lifestyles/scenery category for submissions

my guess is that yes, it will be free online to download/stream, but we'll see, because if we can pick up some big sponsors, we are hoping to be able to give out free dvds as well

my idea would be to let people help you. i havent watched the movie yet bit i offered help w/ editing and u didn't seem interested at all but your trailer was terrible and a NS movie deserved much better.

sorry about that, because of the short time frame i had, i didn't have time to get a lot of help in editing, it would have been a logistical nightmare, this year is different and I'll need lots of help...as for the trailer, yes it did suck, i agree, i made it in 15 mins because I was juggling school, IF3, moving to montreal, etc...watch the movie, it turned out sick

To the people saying that it should be HD only:

(No hate intended) Yes, some HD looks better than SD, but there is also really nice looking SD from the various 3 chip cameras. Unless Dave gets some sort of huge sponsor, I doubt he'll be outputting to Blu ray disc. Therefore, one would logically assume that it would make sense to be able to allow SD as well as HD. Just like the megapixel race with still cameras, people are jumping on the HD bandwagon like there isn't any other medium. I agree that HD looks nice, but SD is sick too. I'm not trying to cause any arguments I'm just putting my thoughts out.

This sounds like a sick idea.

First off props for keeping this up dave, this isn't really directed so much at you as it is to Doug and all the big wigs, I really think the NS movie is something to invest in, get some of that money from selling out going towards it, and I think you could probably pick up some sponsors dave, I'm sure you're pursuing that already though.

some ideas

introduce a segment with a lot of riders. can be only a move per riders, king of innovation winners for example.

you could introduce more pro segment (like gus an ced)

and sell it on itunes for 2 bucks

Dave i think the idea is going in the right direction but as it was stated above, the editing among other things was way sub par. I know of alot of people that watched the movie and thought it was a joke. I thought it came out ok personally but, It seems like you just took a bunch of edits and slammed the together. And dont take this as a knock, i think it was a great idea and it just needs work to get it where its a legit movie.

yup, it basicaly was a movie with edits slapped together, but this one will be edited from start to finish by a team of editors over next summer

how would i go about getting one of these dvd's if you were handing them out? and NS First was sick IMO, the soundtrack was awesome. looking forward to the second

agreed
maybe more than a few moves; like 3-5?and I also agree on lifestyles, those would be sick
Also, I think we should do something where we have a prop passed around the riders, or some other thing that makes it more flowy and connected
kinda like that edit "Back" that was in top rated for a few days?

I said this in the other thread but I don't know if it was answered.

How much would it cost to get the rights to some good music? We could all pitch in and donate for the movie.

I think it would be sick to do segments on particular mountains and have the locals of that mountain be in it, maybe a keystone seg, a mount snow seg or a mammoth seg for example.

make it more appealing to the uk and see if you can get some indoor or dry slope footage from over here

try asking UNITY

What would be absolutely awesome, but not very possible considering the time, is if evey mountain that has NS at it, should do an edit. So that way, it would be like, ch1: Hood, ch 2: whistler. yea know? but i dont think it would happen due to the time it would take to put together and to rely on other people for the footage

in the article it asks for prizes from companys how many of these prizes are we talkin

please pm me dave

what about having a summer segment entry as well, as we all know how important summer camps are to NS kids and how important NS is to these summer camps.

What a sick idea, just travel around this winter going from spot to spot, arranging plans ahead of time to shoot NS rippers in their home areas doing their thing. you could also get rad footage at hostile takeover events and such. it could be really epic, but it would require someone to travel and film...which would require a budget and what not... but if you did that, and did a good job, i'm sure tons of people would purchase it in dvd form.
