NS members need to focus a little more on their grammar skills

It might just be me finally growing a little more mature (unlikely), but I am finding it a little difficult to read half the responses left in threads these days. It seems like there has been a significant loss in any form of grammatical structure to most, or at least many, of the responses by NS members.

I do appreciate words and short forms that have become accepted like "ignant" or "IMO", but typing words incorrectly and leaving them because you are too lazy to check it is just pathetic and makes you look stupid. Look at some of the arguments that have occurred in threads between two members where, even if you side with one, both appear to be quite dumb because they can't even use the right form of there, their, or they're.

It's particularily bad in BST, especially when you are creating a thread and can't even bother to make one that is free of the most basic errors. Do you think people want to do a transaction with someone who isn't even literate?

Come on NS, you're better than that.

(end rant)

one of the ones that drives me insane the most.

haha but to the OP i agree. i understand its the internet, but jesus, i feel like half the kids on this site must be straight up mentally challenged to be THAT bad at spelling.

their must b in explainashun fur tis madnis.
(I just died a little.)
I agree with the OP, but i also don't think that we have to be nazis about it. Just a simple "You said their in the wrong form, try there." Maybe people will think a little bit more about what they type when they aren't worrying about being attacked for spelling/grammar issues.

I agree. Although, I think it's necessary to be a Nazi about it (that was an unclear antecedent). One one hand, it would help people later in life when they are applying for jobs using resumes featuring improper grammar. On the other, it would keep the forums clear of useless posts and satisfy the obsessive-compulsive among us. Which brings is back to the argument for a post editing feature.

You remind someone they screwed up their grammar though and the first response is:

"I DUN GIB A SHIT U FUCKING CUNTLICKER!!!!"

i hate it when your just broising ns and their are all these mistakes everywhere. pisses me off!

dude their are those everywhere, it's getting rediculous. defanitely needs to stop now. kids just need to ask they're parents to teach them how to grammer well

only for larger grammatical errors, like things that could be avoided by reading over a post before clicking reply

if it's for capitals and comma usage then i'm fucked, but your vs you're i think should be an ip ban along with a public execution

i mean a lot of things can be corrected by right clicking on the red underlined word...if it's underlined in red it is probably not spelled correctly

everything else like their/they're/there are things that i assumed most kids learned in 4th grade...evidently i was wrong even though i learned them in a pretty shitty public school

Guys, please keep in mind that this isn't NS users' fault. Many users are incapable of speaking like educated humans, so it is only natural that they can not spell like educated humans.

In a quick text message or IM, I find it acceptable to ignore a mistake or two in order to send it sooner. However, there is a major problem when one is speaking in person to another, and neither can speak with proper syntax, let alone pronunciation. Before we teach newborns how to spell, we teach them how to speak. A stunning amount of NS users seem to never have received instruction on either subject.

I propose that we force all Newschoolers to pass a literacy test before they may post- this way, w cn b shur we dont git dum postz leik dis nd we cn undrstant wat pepl r seyin sumt1mes

shyut up no1 cares waht u hav to sai...theyre is no reason ppl on hear shoudlnt no how to shpell. Its' so cimple to sphell and use correct gramher.

I like to think NS is providing a public service, by teaching kids grammar. They come here, fresh faced, aged 13, with no grammatical coherence whatsoever. And, after a few years, and numerous call-outs of their grammar, they are ready to be released back into society, with a refurbished vocabulary, and complete understanding of the English language.

Welcome to today's lesson! If you are referring to the optical device in goggles, the part is called a lens, not a lense. However, the plural is spelled lenses. Tune in later for the next installment!

PS. Thank you Silence for the callout. The correct spelling of that word is "particularly". I don't know why I put an "i" in there.

I like this thread. Its always been a pet peeve of mine, there just to dumb and your totally justified banning them. Seriously, tons aren't even spelling errors, they're just kids who don't have the slightest grasp of the english language.

yeah. its one thing to put the e at the end of lens. its another to say "i dont no why my breaks keep braking!"

I shall now edit your thread to make some sense nowadays.
It might just be me is finally growing a little more matures (unlikely) LOL!, but I are finding it little difficults to read halves the responses left in threads these dayz LOL. 10/10 for you, cannon LOL. I love the telegram style... LOL instead of STOP. You just made me explode- I actually laughed out loud LOL

I am not about to try to educate an online Newschool skiing community about proper grammar in my free time. It's not a big deal guys, and it's not going to change.

dont yu asks us member to are smarter i didnt goe too schoool and havenot had the opporunitiez that yu dam samrt peoples have had

why does spelling matter as long as the point is put across? language should be used as a form of communication, not something to make yourself feel smart over.
