NS members at Ft. Lewis College

Im going to be a senior in high school this year and its about time that i start applying to schools; Ft. Lewis is definitely on my list for several reasons. I live in Steamboat Springs CO so it has in state tuition, which is a big plus. I really want to stay in a smaller town so i feel like Durango would be a good place to go, and I'd really like to keep skiing and Purgatory seems like it has a solid resort thats close to Durango.

If any NS members currently attend Fort Lewis i'd love to hear some feed back on a couple questions.

How do you guys like Durango? I haven't spent much time there so I'm interested some stuff about the town.

How's Ft. Lewis academically?

Is there much of a skiing community at the school? Is there actually time to go ski during the year, and is it easy for a freshman to get up to the resort?

Any other feed back would be awesome, anything that you think would be beneficial to know. K++ for responses. Thanks!

Durango has a relatively low cost of living compared to other college ski towns in CO plus they have a pretty good night life. There's a strip with several bars/clubs. Def a college town and Pagosa Springs/ Wolf Creek is only an hour away if you're into powder and hot springs.

This thread is very relevant to my interests. I'm also a senior and looking to go to Ft lewis.

One thing to be sure about is that the San Juans have the best skiing in colorado hands down.

You would get CO residency tuition rates reguardless of going there or somewhere else. At CMC you'd get in district tuition as well. Why Fort Lewis over other schools like Western State (if you like freezing your balls off).. CU, MSCD, any of the CMC campuses???

-Durango is an awesome town if you can fit in. Some people may feel alienated and some people may feel like they found a place that they could call home. Personally, I love Durango.

-It's not very competitive, but if you apply yourself you can learn a lot. Every teacher I've had wants to help you and work with you. It's not terribly difficult if you go to class and put in a little bit of effort.

-Most people ski and those who don't will probably try and learn to ski. You can always get a ride up to Purg and people make time to go skiing. Don't skip class to go skiing. It's a bad habit, just rearrange your classes. I arranged my schedule so I only have classes MWF and I always get out at 1:30 just so I can ski more.

Feel free to ask any more questions. There are a lot of people who are familiar with NS at the fort, but only a few of them post often

didnt want to create another thread, but i will most likely be attending there next fall and im applying for housing right now. looking for advice on what dorms and whatnot and seeing if anyone else on here is going there next year.

My girlfriend goes there and loves it, definitely a big ski culture, she goes to purgatory several times a week as a freshman without her own car. I've been a few times and durango is decent, but its a big enough town where you get the mix of mountain people and the white trash that populate the western slope. So like telluride plus grand junction but smaller.

doesnt Bartman live there? Or did I just dream that...?

Disclaimer: I dream a lot about Bartman.
