Really? You've never gone south of the Point on 1-15? jesus, almost all access to the national parks in the United States is south of that. You'll head south if you know what's good for you, boy.

The orange logo on the helmet is the original NS logo from over a decade ago.

That is actually the NS clothing logo. NS Clothing was being spun off as its own entity, technically separate from Newschoolers.

Quickchat was like the OG NSG garbage... Only with even less context.

I still have an NS clothing shirt from 2004. Harvey sponsored Lord of the Park with clothing but never got stuff out to me in time. I met him that summer at High North and he hooked me up with shirts to hook the old winners up with. I kept one shirt for myself. I promise it was the only time I had ever dipped into the swag supply.

I miss the old ski scene.

I do too.

We need to start banding together and getting this vibe back. If people don't want to ride together on hill and be cocky little douchebags then fuck 'em.

This shit used to be about community, and that was awesome. Riding with people is the shit.

Impossible. Back then people skied park because they wanted to, despite the hate received by not only snowboarders in the park but also by the old ass skiers that hated snowboarders for years. If you saw a fellow twin tipper, it was awesome and you wanted to know that person. Now that skiing has "blown up" and has become acceptable and cool, most of the new kids you see are either skiing because they want to look cool, or they're comp. jocks forced into it either by their parents or their own douchey drive. Either way they don't see fellow twin tippers as members of a small community but rather someone they judge and try to be better than.

Its one of the downfalls of a sport becoming popular and is exactly what happened in snowboarding. Gapers ruin communities.

NOTHING is impossible.

Did the founding fathers of this sport just sit down and say "Skiing is lame because everyone is comp jocks so we should accept it"?

No. They did something about it. They broke free from the shackles of what the larger world as a whole told them they were supposed to be doing and actually made this sport a better and more fun thing to be doing.

We can do that too. Its as simple as not thinking everyone is going to be a douchebag... ride the chair with a random dude, teach a n00b a new trick, talk to someone in the drop line and give 'em a high 5 after you get to the bottom.

Re-building a tight knit community is probably one of the easiest things we could all do. We just need to start talking to each other IRL and not just on the internet.

Almost there. The original was just a single colour. The outlines and shadowing were slightly later

Yeah, I remember the days when I'd meet someone else who was actually in the park skiing on twin tips. Then ask them if they were on NS, and find out that them, and the 2 other people on the lift are folks I had been chatting with in the regionals for the previous 7 months.

Honestly, I can pretty much thank the ski community for a great big chunk of my friendships over my life. NS facilitated it, and it's still doing it. You just have to use it like it's still 2002 not 2014.

It'll always hold a special place in NS' history. It was the transition from us being unbelievably ghetto into being 20% less ghetto.

this is a tier 1 response

We can do that too.

You're right, they did do something about it... they stopped mogul skiing altogether and started to ski in a fashion that no one else had been doing before. Someone needs to invent a different kind of skiing. The only way to re-create that tight knit community is to establish a completely new type of skiing. I'm down with that.

My take is that style of skiing is called not giving a fuck and hanging out with good buds.

We don't need a new style of skiing - we need a new attitude of skiing.

This is the real meaning of 'free skiing'. Just getting out there and having fun and experiencing the high from watching other skiers have fun.

I'm actually really starting to hate the term Freeskiing. I mean that is what the Olympics called it, and more and more to me it seems to represent comp skiing.

Really, its just skiing.

If i get asked what i do i say "im a skier". What type of skier they say. "I ski everything"

Freesking is dumb.

I am a skier...not i am a freeskier

You mean.. crushing beers on the hill, kicking snow off my skis at people who fall under the chairlift, telling everyone I am way sicker of a skier than they are because I'm the best skier on the mountain--isn't the real meaning of skiing? I need to re-evaluate my life apparently...

When I first heard 'freeskiing' it meant everything that wasn't a comp or a lesson. Our teachers would say, "you guys can spend the rest of the day 'freeskiing' once we're done with this lesson." Back then 'freeskiing' meant no one telling us how or where to ski. I hate hearing 'freeskiing' used as a label for any particular type of comp or discipline.
