NS Is Toxic

I have not been on here long but I feel like there are a few issues with this site and the people on here. First I don't know why these washed-up boomers are out to make every thread so toxic. Eheath, we give zero fucks how long u have been on the site, lose weight, and learn to spin over a 5. You are the people ruining the site, and making new members afraid to post. No one is welcoming on NS and it is really sad. Second, NS is not being advertised to the youth of skiing. And of course, the boomers prolly don't want young and naive skiers on this site, but the truth is they are the future of skiing and hopefully the future of NS. I think that if we all were on here to truly enjoy skiing, and help each other out we would have a lot better time on NS. Also, that thread about butters and them being an accessible form of skiing was whack as fuck.
 
I agree, but I also think it’s a ‘few bad apples’ most people are really helpful and are ready to have a conversation, but then someone trolls or is just straight up super disrespectful and rude and it ruins it for everyone.

No need to call someone out on their weight. But I will agree it’s hard for new people to get into the site. I feel like everyone else might look at us like the “popular kids” back in high school. Like that giant friend group that doesn’t really let anyone new in and is lowkey intimidating cuz they might gang up on you and make fun of you if you fuck up. The trade off tho is a pretty tight community of people who really care about skiing and the culture that comes with it. I think there’s a middle ground we should try to achieve where we are still a tight group where everyone knows everyone but we also welcome new members without shitting on them so quick

eh drop the eheath blaming, he can be a stubborn dick but he cares deeply about skiing, knows a ton about it, and has done a lot for NS and for NS skiing in general

NS is just a bunch of skier dickheads, skiers are like cats or chicks, they kinda act like chodes to those similar to them

take the good with the bad and don't waste time thinking about anyone's stupid opinions, they're limitless

I mean you’re not wrong but I’ve always had an “avoid the bad eggs” mentality so I tend to actively ignore the parts I don’t like in lieu of the parts I like. When I get fed up, I just stay in gear talk. I hardly ever go on non-ski gabber except for “post what’s on your mind” and “post your latest purchase” threads.

I think when I was younger I didn’t realize it but park skiers have kinda always had this aggressive energy. It’s actually softening up as the years go on, which is really nice to see. It’s skiing. Why is everyone taking it so seriously?

I want to blame park skiers but it’s honestly the industry as a whole. Not a very welcoming industry and a lot of competition. So it bleeds over. But like I said, things are changing (thank god). I have nostalgia for the scene when I was growing up but I’m 110% more content with how things are now with the better vibes, more Indy brands, more parks, more styles, easier barrier to entry, etc.

I like this but I wouldn't give them full ban hammer abilities. Maybe let them give out like 3 two day suspensions. That or give them full reign for bans but undo them after the month ends.

People have conflicting views on what they like and are free to express it just cause it doesn't line up with your views doesn't mean you have to feel attacked.

I cant imagine doing something like telling my boss or someone I work with "YoUrE bEiNg ToXiC" like try telling your girl shes toxic and see how fast she goes out and cheats on you with someone who isn't a total pussy. you sound like a 25 year old white chick who majored in gender studies when you use that term lol.

I'm so far past it at this point, especially because most people saying it don't know me, would never say it to my face and probably have no idea what I even look like outside of a couple of random pictures from 15 years ago.

NS is chill as hell nowadays. Yeah there are a few dickheads here but usually you know to stay away from the shit posts and its not like the rest of NS supports them. Especially compared to the toxic dumping ground this site used to be things are pretty laid back.

NS is just full of wise asses. Join in. Nobody here actually hates new skiers, they’re playing, and you’re just being sensitive lol. Just yesterday I asked a super noob like question about boots. We’re people wise asses in the comments? Yes. Did I get my answer? Yes! Do I know a little bit more about my favorite sport after asking?! YES!!!! Mission complete.

Gotta roll w the punches... Nobody fucks with a cry baby. Also EHeath is cool, I love when he chimes in on my threads

I had an account before this and tried coming here during those times and dumped it after about 2 weeks. It really was miserable and NSG was just reddit reposting and shit post replies and everyone just got this snarky attitude even if they were not a troll.
 
1. I don’t like the boomer mentality some people have on here

2. I think people get to sensitive on here.

3. I think banning / modding for uses of certain words is hypocritical while simultaneously letting skierman run around for years basically telling young kids/teens to kill themselves.

Besides all that there’s tons of cool homies on here.

The amount of times I’ve cracked up from all the funny shit I see outweighs the bad.

Also there’s some extremely helpful people on here that have saved me hours upon hours of internet searching and headaches with my gear.

I'm not gonna lie probs get downvoted for this but I came from r/skiing. Idk if it's changed sort of recently or I'm just getting used to this website but it's even worse now than it was before.

When I first went on there it was like, cool edits ya know hivemind voted shit but it was still good content. Like legit I'd go on there and be like "damn can everyone do a backflip like it's no big deal??". Some funny memes too. Obviously got stale af in the off season when people would just post their new skis leaning on a wall but at least they were pretty good skis lol.

Now, holy fuck. "I'm going to Switzerland which resort is the best for beginners?" And legit word for word here: "Is Alta a good place for beginners to ski and is altas ski resort good" And let's not forget the 1000 "I just bought these skis! Sooo glad to be off of rentals " Rossignol Experience 86's with demo bindings.

So I guess that's really the difference between here and there. If hearing the above questions or posts make you sick, then you're in the right place.

Like yeah I'm guilty of making toxic threads too, we all do it though, even the nicest people on here have made shitty threads before, that's the beauty of having the freedom to share your thoughts without totalitarian mods deleting every controversial thread in sight.

But don't come in here and blame eheath for making NS toxic and in the next sentence cyberbully him for his weight.
 
Talking shit about a community you joined less than *a year* ago. I don’t post much but read a lot of threads, it was much more “toxic” and scarier for new guys 5+ years ago..

this. i haven’t been here long but this site is awesome and seems to be best for 1) getting exposed to cool ski content/ gear/ brands 2) getting advice/ asking questions 3) hyping up other skiers. why should anything else matter?

nobody fucking cares if you liked and edit, nobody cares if you think someone has good or bad style, nobody cares if you think someone else should be better in order to use the gear they have. nobody likes someone that can’t operate a search bar and do a little research on their own before making a thread.
 
I’m not saying this site is toxic but a lot of people have come and gone on this site and the culture has changed with them. I’m not saying anything positive or negative but there was definitely a culture shift after Mr. Bishop left. There’s a changing of the guard regarding trolls and people of substance about every 2 years. I like this site; It’s just continually evolving.
