ok, the message system works fine, but if your tryin to carry on a conversation, it sucks cause you gotta keep refreshing the page. a Instant Messanger feautre would be sweet.

Well it's funny you should mention that. An IM is currently in pre-alpha testing.

The NSIM isn't intended to replace AIM or MSN, it is simply a client interface to the online messaging system. Basically, it just makes it really easy for you to check your messages without having to open IE and log in. It docks in your system tray, and you can leave it logged on, so while you're doing whatever, you can open it up and see your messages in near-real-time.

The main advantage is that you don't have to sit there refreshing the page, it does it for you. Also, you can leave it on so you don't have to log into NS every time you want to check your messages.

It'll probably be about a month before we open it up for Beta testing.

that's a super cool idea. i would have to agree that adding an actual chat part outside of the quick chat would be a good idea. the quick chat is the only part of NS that i'm really not a fan of. every time i try to hold a conversation, it decides to not refresh, and then i look like a fool when i post something 3 posts too late. then again, i look like a fool alot.

Screen shot coming later this week. It fully works now which I'm pretty stoked on. Just have to work out some kinks and it's done.

If I'm carrying on a conversation over NS, I'm usually surfing the site, so I don't exactly feel too much need for a whole new system.

If I'm reading a thread, it's not too important to me if I have a message that I can't see at that exact moment. If I'm busy reading the page I'm on, I wouldn't be answering a message anyway. It will be there when I go to a different part of the website, and I don't really lose any time or convenience by having it be that way.

yeah, its a standalone program, you dont need to be on NS to use it, it runs in the system trya, so basically you will get real-time messaging all the time, not just on NS.

i just realised while chatting on AIM that the popup windows would look pretty much like that part on the lower left......

but, as idk how NSIM is being constructed (ex. AIM style, or more of a general chat room) i don't really know how to render something up.

my vision isn't perfect, but it's an idea.
