I joined NS last year almost exactly. I was never called a noob too much or any of that shit. These days everyone has some negative thing to say about people, and what's happening. Status in NS is a big deal now. I know there have been so many threads on this shit, but I have to say it's been going on too long. NS is about skiing, and not bothering people. If you don't have anything to say, then shut your mouth. Go die in a hole or something. I know I have 800 something posts, but I don't care. I like to make all my posts have something meaningful in them, and not to become a post whore.

Another thing is not to say BS about things you know nothing about. Park skiers and big mountain skiers and racers are all on this site. You can't say anything about either unless you have done all 3. I personally have only done 1 day of park skiing. I dissed park once in a thread and I regret it now. Park is FUN! but so are the other 2 disciplines. So if you find yourself dissing them, try them first.

I conclude with a couple messages to mods:

I know you deleted the HTML in NS, but I find that if there is something to regulate the background coloring of the posts and stuff then NS could be enhanced by quite a it.

Try to find a way to regulate the amount of threads on one topic. There are so many people saying "SEARCH BAR n00b!" and I think that's not cool. If people want to find out about a topic, that's what the forums are for. Finding out about stuff. But doing another thread on it to boost your post count or whatnot isn't benefiting the site at all.

Another thing is to make some way to notify people that threads have been removed. I don't like having a thread that I wanted to look at be removed for a reason I don't know about. One last thing. Maybe you could find a way to move threads in the wrong category to the right one. That would be awesome, because then people wouldn't have to go searching all over NS for it They could look in ski equipment and find all about the new 07 line skis, rather than in ski gabber. Just an example.

Hope you take my thoughts carefully. I'm only doing this to benefit NS.
 
Really? are they? We know,everyone knows and you making a thread about it doesnt help. Sure, there are some 13-15 year olds out there who aren't gonna be very nice. Sure, some of us (including me) may have a large amount of posts. But we dont just sit there "GOTTA HAVE 10K POSTS!" and post nonsense (most of the time). Most people on here try there hardest to contrabute to the site.

But if some kid with 5 posts, been on the site for a week, posts OMG TANNER ACTS SO BLACK, or, MY INVADORS DELAMED!!, they will get bashed. The search bar is a very decent tool. You can look at any subject made and you can search it and prob find something about it.

So long story short, just deal with it. Most (80k, other than you and a couple others) keep their mouth shut about it. It used to be worse my friend, if u ever came on in the past 5 months, it got alot better. Peace.

I agree, most people do keep their mouth shut about it. But for me, I want NS to know my opinion and share it so that some of those 13-15 year olds can take that advice. It's not just 13-15 year olds, too.
 
As much as you tell NS to get better, it wont. Newschoolers.com is like a stuborn dog. Its best just to ignore its problems and encourage its strong points. Eventually it will work out, and the dog, NS, will be obediant and will work like clockwork. Just give it time dude, and if you dont like it...leave.
 
I disagree with you in a some ways, Heath.

I love NS, and I won't leave.

Some people won't change, some people will. But at least people will know what they're doing and new people can see what's really going on here.

i agree to a certain extent. But look at what has happened in just the past year. NS was steadily going downhill and would've continued to get worse if there wasn't that major cleanup effort after Jacob left. Sure it will work like clockwork, but part of that clockwork is people actively working to make it a better place by addressing the problems. i'm certainly not saying threads like these are the answer, but they just might help.
 
who cares. i dont mean to soud like a douchebag but its a website. people are going to talk shit, is not like it really matters what they say. so dont lose any sleep over it because its not a big deal.

Yes, things do need to change. Will they? Probably to a degree, but there will always be ignorance in the world. Good luck ridding NS of it.

People make the choice to be assholes or to be cool, chill, and helpful, regardless of how many times the question has been asked. Either they say something stupid and smartassed, or they gently suggest in a kind and generous way that this topic might have been covered before, inform the lost, young, and uneducated noob about the search button, and perhaps provide a link to the some of the other threads in question.

Basically, Zack's guidelines for not being an asshole.

1. Treat people the way you expect to be treated IN PERSON. I HATE people who have all this gangster steez on NS only to be whiny little 13 year old pricks. If you threaten to cut me on NS, you'd better expect to be shaking hands with my knife point if we ever meet in person.

2. Use common courtesy. If you don't know how that works, look it up, then come back.

3. Turn your brain on. Use the search button. Count backwards from 30 slowly while asking yourself these questions:

A: Have I searched for this topic?

B: Is it something hot that is going to be posted on 250000000000 times in the next 5 minutes?

C: Does this post have any redeeming value whatsoever?

D: How does this question promote intelligent discourse amongst fellow skiers?

4. Don't post whore. The mark of true NS cred should not be post count or member ##. I know plenty of dumbfucks on here with 100000000000 posts or member # .000001. It doesn't mean shit.

5. Review #'s 1 through 4 daily when signing on to NS.

Since so much has already been said, i doubt this will really show up on the radar of this thread, but I can't believe that no one has said this before. All of the "problems" that people have with this website aren't just here. Go to any other message board, even a much smaller one, and you're going to see the same shit. Infact, even in real life, the same stuff happens. If you get a large enough population of people together in one place, there's going to be some shitbags that start stuff, and act dumb. That's life. It happens. The Mods do a pretty damn good job here, and they can't stop everything. I wouldn't really call them problems so much as "annoyances." This place is kindof like highschool. You have the younger kids that do a lot of stupid shit, but there's also older people on here doing the same stuff. I predict that it will be getting worse as more and and more people finish for the season...
 
ns has gotten way better than it was in the past (allthou my old account stoped working for some reason) but there will always be 13 year olds who think there the shit, thats the way it is, yes there are repeats of threads and i to dislike people saying SEACH BAR YOU NEWB but sometimes even i do that because i am tired of seeing the same thread for the 15th time. Most people try to contribute to this site in a good way, but there will always be the ones who dont, thats just the way it is.
 
srry about the double post too but people are also tired of seeing the " NS has gone bad" threads so your at fault too
 
use the search bar n3wbz0r noone cares, cuz it has been talked about before. and this is not ski related, cant you even post in the right forum newb?
 
Okay, this site is how it is. I've seen so many of these. Let the mods do their job, and let the educated, time-hardened people on this site regulate ourselves, a lot of the stupidity that comes with so many users...That will sometimes come in the form of flaming or call-outs. Deal with it.

also, this site was designed for freeriding people, not for plain racers.. sorry if i offend some people but i would hate it if a bunch of racers that do not hit jumps or rails starting joining this site for god knows what reasons.. i think it would suck
 
people take this site way too seriously and get way too involved in it. its a fucking internet website...your life does not depend on it
 
i like how ns is right now... if kids talk shit.. ignore it. the mods are doing a fine job weeding it out, but they cant get everything, i mean this is the interenet, fuck it... you sohuldnt care if some kid calls you stupid, even if you dont like it, they are entitled to their opinion.

oh yeah, and use the search bar next time, a million threads like this have been made hahaaaaa

i know we all want this site to be all formal but you have to understand that any ass hole can make an account and start typing!! so lets just look past the neg stuff and just look at what matters!!

anyway it's probably been said but i think we should do away with post count...people try so hard to get the crazy fool status or whatever but if nobody knows how many posts they have then they won't continue to post pointlesss shit

i think there are too many fucking retards on this site thats the REAL problem, theres no way to fix that unless you make a new site that has 100 people on it who all know each other. i think ns has gotten a bit better im seeing less and less of the search bar shit and if it is mentioned its mentioned nicely, i think its getting as good as it can possibly get we just have to regulate the problems between ourselves.
