NS, I really REALLY need your help

Okay, I have such a dilemma on my hands. I need some help. I have four choices that I can pick whatever from, dealing with cars. Mind you, right now I'm driving a 98 ford windstar with hardley any brakes and it's about the shit the bed. Plus it sucks up gas like none other.

Choice 1: I lease a 2007 VW Golf (Rabbit) for two years, which is when I go off to college for frosh year. And when I get back (summer, vacations, etc.), I don't have a car, it's gone. So I use whatever is given to me. Yet, I test drove one today and it was AMAZING. Such a nice car for so little money. I'm in love with it.

Choice 2: I buy a 2006/2007 VW GLI (Jetta). Yet, when I go off to college my mom takes over the car, then when I get home (summer, vacations, etc.), my mom is buying an Eos in sept when they come out, so I DO have a car when I get back. Nicest car I've ever driven, basically a GTI except in sedan form. Super fast, amazing handling, best car I've ever driven.

Choice 3: I get $10,000 dollars to spend on whatever car I want, but then I must pay for every repair it might need. Yet, with the money left over I can use that towards skiing (trips/gear/etc.)

Choice 4: I keep driving the mini van and get $10,000 dollars and my moms boyfriend keeps doing free repairs on it. But, it's about to die soon, so you can't really repair a dead car.

I know most of you would say choice 3, and so do I, yet I don't want to spend $3000 dollars on some used golf (which I'd be ecstatic with) then spend another $4000 on repairs then I only have $3000 left for skiing, when I could've just earned that $3000 dollars myself and still gotten the Rabbit or GLI.

I mean, I already do pay for ALL of my own ski stuff, so earning money for skiing and having a GLI or whatnot wouldn't be so bad at all. Yet, I never have enough money to head out to Queens Cup or ski camp, so that 10 grand could pay for trips like that, which would be absolutely amazing. But if I go about buying the cheap used car and paying for all repairs, then I lose the trips.

Oh, and some of you might say just get a GTI instead of GLI or Rabbit, yah it's out of the question. The way I drove one today, my mom said I would never be allowed that fast of a car, when I'm living with her atleast. I guess I kinda scared her, haha.

i just bought a rabbit... im waiting on delivery right now but im fucking pumped it drives nicer than any other car ive driven before:D:D:D

in your case id say either the jetta or the rabbit if your driving a lot....

if you plan on minimal driving buy an older golf,

its always better to own than lease....

so its a tough call but if u drive any distance at all GET THE RABBIT, feature wise it beats out some mercedes.

choice 3 is a terrible idea. you do not want to be paying for the repairs, especially if you blow the money on ski gear. then how does the car get fixed? buy a new car that you share with your mom. you're not going to need a car when you're away. just get a boyfriend or something.

definitley not minimal driving.. i drove over 800 miles.. just THIS week. yah i go places, haha.

plus i'll be up north at loon or wv every single weekend. so i need a good reliable car.

and yah, the rabbit was a ridiculously nice car.

So you can get a 20,000 dollar car and share it with your mom while you're away from school not using it or you can get a 10,000 dollar car. I'd get the Jetta.

maybe if you didnt drive down to the cape, then to like sudbury, then wawa, then my house, then back to sudbury im guessing, then home, and thats just one day. i think i found out why you drove so much this week.

get the jetta

Choice 2: I buy a 2006/2007 VW GLI (Jetta). Yet, when I go off to college my mom takes over the car, then when I get home (summer, vacations, etc.), my mom is buying an Eos in sept when they come out, so I DO have a car when I get back. Nicest car I've ever driven, basically a GTI except in sedan form. Super fast, amazing handling, best car I've ever driven.

you said itl. niceset car you've ever driven. get it.

Oh, and I forgot to mention.. on the Rabbit or Jetta, I have to fix ANY little tiny miniscule scratch or whatever out of my pocket. Even if it's a little tiny ding on the bumper, I have to pay for it.

I don't really have that money, so there's another issue.

Choice 4: I def. regret buying my car. Just bum rides off of your friends and save tons in gas money. Then you have 10000 to spend on ski gear. What more could you ask for.

what ever u do do not i repeat do not buy a new car!!!! the second u drive off the lot it goes down 30-50% of what its worth and once wartees out ur fucked and u wont be happy in the long run

Buy a used car for 5G's, many good ones for that price in my area. And then set aside some of it for skiing, then the rest goes in for repairs.

why not just be like "No mom and dad, I dont need or want 10 000 dollars, and A new car would be nice, but it would just cost me more money than I can afford at the moment, with my job. why dont you help me invest the money that you are willing to give me so that it will grow and work for me to make more of its self, That way, when I really need to get somehting like a car, or textbooks, or pay for rent, or grocreys, I will be able to do that by using the intrest that the money will have made me over the next three to five years."

so you just finished your sophomore year of high school, meaning you probably just turned 16...and your parents are going to give you 10 grand towards a car? fuck that shit.

Alright, I don't think you guys understand. I'm not bitching about these choices, I just don't know what to pick. I don't have any experience with cars so I was asking people who do.

And just so you know, I have PLEADED for them to just let me buy my own car or buy like a 3 grand saab. It's not my choice, it's my moms boyfriends choice. And I can't do anything to sway it. Jesus christ..

You don't have to click on the thread if you don't want to read it.

go for option 2. leases are shitty. It's basically an extended rental car. I think leases are just a big ripoff.

keep the junker....cuz you can reapir everyhting for under 5000$ and then you have 5000$ left...and if you are getting free repairs then stay with that cuz repairs are a bitch

Choice 4. It seems like a no brainer. You have a ride that gets fixed and you get 10k to spend on things you want but have not been able to get.

Id say go with 2, you get a way nicer car in the long run, and having a new car hopefully you would be careful with it and not have to worry about scratches or dings etc. If your living in rez you dont really need a car, and its worth it to wait and have the nicest vehicle at the end. Oh and stealthsteeze seems obsessed with inviting to the car cult, pm me if you need in, and your semi knowledgable.

she already bought a car, so she doesnt need suggestions anymore. she went with 3 and bought a Scion or Saab or something like that i think

get a truck, toyata truck, they run for life, they get you around and to the hill

sweet choices...I'm looking for one too...I have 1500 dollars to spend:) (too bad I get no support from parents huh?)

get the jetta so when youre done with college you have a car and you dont have to waste your precious money on a car

Choice 3: Buy a slightly used Subaru wagon for 3-7k, Subies run for a good 300,000 miles with almost no maintainence so don't worry about how many miles the car has. Use the rest on skiing. Plus, mpg is pretty good and you get AWD for that skiing/mountain use. Your VWs won't give you that, plus the GLI is not a very economical car gas wise and the Rabbit's handling in snow will be lacking.

Bottom Line:looks and drivability definately a VW. Economic and reliablity go with a Subaru, AWD is also a big plus.

We, well actually my fiance has an 06 GLI. I would definitely take the GLI over the Rabbit for a few reasons. Xenon headlights are amazing at night...make driving in the dark so much nicer. I hate getting in our 04 passat at night to drive. Depending on what package you get there are some great features. We have a package 2, so it has the leather sports seats which are a huge upgrade over the cloth ones. I havent sat in a rabbit yet but I am assuming they have to be worse than the base model GLI. In 07 they are getting rid of the headlight washers and are going to cheapen up on some of the little things but they are going to be lowering the car slightly...which to me is about the only good thing they are doing. Also the 2.0T engine gets better gas mileage and is a blast to drive. We were going to get an Audi A3 but comparing the GLI to that showed you that you get a lot for your money with the VW...besides the financing rate was a hell of a lot better due to VW credit.

I am of the mind why own a car and spend hours at a time driving it if you dont enjoy it. You only live once, yes cars depreciate pretty horribly but would you rather drive around in a 92 volvo beater for the rest of your life or enjoy what you drive. We spend too much time in cars as it is, you might as well love what you are driving. We own a house and though its a smart thing to do with your money its a lot more headache than any of my cars have ever been. Plus paying a car payment is nothing like having to pay your mortgage and taxes on a house.

Oh if you are going to get a rabbit on a lease but plan on driving a lot that might not work out too well. Remember leases are designed for people who dont do lots of miles. A lease of 15k a year is a lot of miles and once you go over you start paying a big premium.

choice 2

michelle that minivan is pimp but yeah get jetta

or some type of suv to carry skis and shit to the mountain and urban usage

Go for choice 4. take the money and hope the van pulls through. Keep the money saved up for the most part. If the van dies, then look into getting a cheap used car or lease the rabbit.
