NS guide to asshole professor(s)

Some people are just not teacher material

I'm coming to the end of my college days so this isn't the freshman complain thread.

Since I'm at an Jesuit institution, my core classes included FOUR religion classes. In the past I learned that in order to pass religion courses you need to adopt and regurgitate the teachers faith and believes. Jesus Christ this Catholics that, fucking Methodist blah blah blah

My Islam 365 professor is a wannabe Islamic convert scholar. this UC Berkley Bro is about 2 years older than most of the class, he studied islam in Yeman chewing quot and discussing God knows what with this currently Al-Qaeda controlled province.

The class is unlike any other Socratic method classroom I've encountered.

Not only will i regurgitate what the readings said on cold calls, I will go out of my way to move class discussions, answer him when it's awkwardly silent, and even go to his office hours to shoot the shit.

the class is participation based (not just attendance) and a final.

The dude gives me a D in participation, and i feel it is because i'm one of the 5 non-muslim kids in the class

So despite all my efforts I do not know how to retaliate beyond ratemyprofessor.com and registrars office

NS what do you do with an asshole professor like this? splash him with lsd induce permatrip ?

Go to the department head/dean if you truly have a good case. Enough people in my botany class complained to those higher up that our professor got fired within 3 days of our midterm back. They have also decided that our midterm is no longer going to count towards our final grade.

Most of the time universitys only get end of term feedback from the students, at which point it is too late to change things. They actually appreciate constructive responses throughout the semester as it allows them to step in when needed.

Go to the head of the dept with evidence that you deserve a better grade if he doesn't consider changing it. They are usually willing to help, then again I had a very similar situation at the end of my college "career".

Good Luck, pompous professors are fun.

go to his office hours, and one-on-one ask him why he's giving you a D for participation based on the reasons you mentioned above.

Teachers are reasonable people, just be polite and show him you're concerned about it and trying to give it a real effort.

stop being that guy in class who thinks he is smarter/better than the teacher

deal with it and complain to your friends about him like everyone else

give him a super potent weed brownie as thanks for being a great teacher, then when he feels weird tell him you have the cure for it and squirt a dropper full of 30 hits of LSD in his mouth and he'll be trippin balls for days.

wait OP do you do drugs?

I am not sure cause there were no drug pics in that thread.

Or pictures of you with that nosebleed you got bike riding.

Go to his office and ask if you can transfer the D he gave you for participation to the D he gives you in the mouth. Finish him off, and voila, you will now have an A for participation.

I do this all the time. Works well for me. I just want to tell you good luck. We're all counting on you.

This is probably not what you want to hear (ironic statement after you read what follows), but did you consider that since your participation throughout the course was entirely in-authentic bullshit posturing that you deserve a shitty grade?

Every professor I've had has loved healthy disagreement and challenge. I've had professors who I never agreed on a single thing with and that gave me impeccable grades because I stood behind my own intellectual process and didn't cave to their way of thinking. This includes professors who have made explicit their own moral and spiritual assumptions, and yet, when I disagree they not only respected me but responded positively by encouraging that I continue to work out my OWN way of thinking about the world.

Maybe you got a D because you were too pussy to have your own opinion on anything.

Maybe you got the D

Yes... Maybe you did...

He's not really an asshole but I have one professor who always overshoots his his timing by 3. Today he spent almost 3 hours talking when he said he'd take 1.

Break his bitch ass and fuck his bitch. That will legally obligate him to "swag you out" therefore making him "based god" and fulfill his homoerotic sexual desires towards his smelly religion.

i dont read anythig op posts anymore because it is formated so fucking stupidly and is always about drugs.

haha could you imagine if someone attempted to get out of an exam by dropping 50-60 hits in to a professors water... literally fry the dudes brain. I could totally see some idiot doing that and fucking the guy for life.

I knew eventually NS would come up with a sensible solution.

He wears authentic Yemenese robes with a sword daily.

if that doesnt say Jihadist i do not know what does

This. Or maybe you deserved it.. whenever people get an "A" they say "I got an A". When people get a "D", the teacher gave it to them.

I would not doubt the teacher is a pretentious prick. But, it is also like when a girl says the teacher's style of teaching is bad. No bitch, you're dumb. Maybe your remarks are obviously obnoxious...

I can honestly say I have had 2 bad professors my entire 4 years of college. One is in my senior year right now, one was my freshman year. The freshman year lady contradicted herself on everything she said, counted points off for including something SHE told me to put in my paper, gave ABSOLUTELY nobody in the class an A even though an entry course such as that is dictated as having 12% A's distributed in the class(or more) based on departmental rules. Overall terrible, horrible experience. Still only got a B-.

The one I'm in now, I just can't deal with. It's almost like they discourage proactive learning. I'm very detail oriented in how I learn, and as a senior I've had 99% of info in this class, but far more in depth. If I include ANYTHING that was discussed outside of lecture, I'm docked MANY points. Even if it is completely relevant and correct. Sure just memorize whats in the lecture right? Well, there's another problem. I learn lectures best when I can just sit and listen, and then review information from a textbook or slides or whatever external source. Not this professor, handwrites absolutely EVERYTHING on those little wipe off sheets, and if you ask him to return to something fast he will not do it, and he will not stop for questions. On top of that he calls you out in the middle of class to make you look like an idiot, on purpose. Sometimes a question to somebody not paying attention, other times just calling you out on random shit. He's a complete asshole, and I RARELY blame a teacher.

My mom was a teacher as I grew up, and I was NEVER allowed to blame a teacher for poor work. It was always because I didn't try hard enough. Fortunately in a small town high school that was afforded a handful of wonderful teachers, this was true. Even in college, most professors are very personable, and as long as you work your ass off you will see some reciprocity. Nope, with these two professors. But, the only time I bitch about it is to people from the same class that say the exact same thing. Otherwise, there is no point. Work my ass off, do my best, and even if they make it impossible to do well, you still wont do awful. I will get no less than a B in the class I'm bitching about, possibly even an A. I just hate the professor.

This made me cringe. Not because of the notion, just the grammar.

If I were you I would shrug it off, it's one class and one asshole professor. I have had these teacher's too. Most of my professors however, I have a ton of respect for and are very open-minded, creative people. From the sounds of it you have suffered an injustice, but bitching about it likely won't get you anywhere.

Word.

I've got an idea to increase your participation grade... PARTICIPATE! Seriously, quit being an egotistical narcissistic asshole and make an actual contribution during your class discussions.
