NS. FUCK OFF WITH THE FACEBOOK SHARES

For example: In the last two days you shared at least 8 of your own posts of some not-that-incredible shit from within the past month. With all the new content uploaded every day, don't you think something new might be worth posting?

With all the shitty bullshit clogging up Facebook no one needs to see some kid doing a front 2 out again. Not to mention the random slopestyle run reposts…

Sorry. drank too much coffee and am pissed off at nothing. but seriously, please cool it

fuck off OP, unfriend them if you want. To me it sounds like you spend way too much time on Facebook. You're complaining about ski edits popping up when every other post on Facebook belongs in a diary.

OP is soft

This is funny lol. Sometimes no I excessive on Facebook. But the real problem here isn't that. It's that op cares about his Facebook news feed. Who the fuck uses Facebook still?

Wow OP maybe NS should hire you to manage their facebook since you seem to know your shit so well!!

The shares you're seeing are a bot that posts at night when the mods are busy sleeping.Go look at the times those posts are shared relative to Canada/US timezones lol

Sorry you're not digging it man. There are multiple reasons as to why I repost "some not-that-incredible shit" and I'll go a bit into our social strat as of recent.

1. 99% of people enjoy seeing shit like that again (or maybe they didn't see it the first time) whether it's a funny crash, cool trick, ect. You sir are the 1% that hate it.

2. With FB's ever changing News Feed algorithm, many of our fans miss posts from the page so re-sharing direct to FB videos is a good way to hopefully hit that segment of people. Obviously there is bound to be overlap (as in your case).

3. Reach is a big way to grow the page in terms of likes/link clickthroughs which in turn will lead to better success for the page when we do post links. Currently, FB has a hard-on for direct to FB content (which has much greater potential to reach more people) and seemingly throttles down the reach for links/anything that takes you to an external site because they never want you to leave FB, ever.

4. As far as old slopestyle runs or other older NS links being posted, I'll let a quote from Mr. Bishop do the explaining on the new software we are using...

"We actually have been trying a dramatically increased posting volume. Dramatic. We've been harvesting the old archives and throwing stuff up to see what sticks. Facebook has been claiming that it won't bombard our users with too much stuff, and that their algorithms are really good at figuring this out. That being said, we've found there's a line. We can definitely post way too much and then as you said, it can get frustrating especially if its mediocre. However, only posting 3-5 times per day is a terrible idea because we're leaving out tonnes of people that would have liked to see our stuff who don't come on the site all day....

So far its looking like posting more is an excellent idea. Traffic is through the roof, and people coming in are very engaged with most of the content. When they don't like it, they just scroll by and it dies off pretty quick. When they do, it really shares out."

5. Sometimes I'm too damn lazy (or busy) to search through latest videos on NS to see what's worth posting to FB instead of sharing a previously posted direct to FB video.

6. Harsh truth is not everything that does well on NS deserves to be posted to FB. Most people (on FB) don't give a shit about your season edit or your squad mobbing at your local park.

I could go on for days but I'll just stop here. Hope this clears up posting habits for the FB page a little bit.

Glad I'm able to keep you somewhat sane on FB, trust me, I wouldn't have a FB if I didn't need one to run the page.

Cool your jets, man. Its an extra post a day you have to scroll past. Its not the end of the world. Besides, I like to support NS posting stuff that doesn't look impossible to people just getting into park. It helps them believe that their dream of corking through the sky is possible.

I appreciate this. NS doesn't have a super smooth operating mobile platform and seeing these things on Facebook when I'm away from my computer is a super convenient way for me to keep up with the community. Thanks for doing the hard work.

My Facebook just disappeared after not using it for months.

If you don't like the stuff posted op then unfriend them, don't go posting shit complaining about shit and clogging up things. It's kinda hypocritical lol

I agree with krotch but i think some vids are not facebook worthy. I dont mind sick stuff from ages ago, in fact the more the better. But some shit isnt worth clicking on mobile to get to ns to load the vid...also, i think you guys should TOTALLY PRIORITIZE gif/pic/article as opposed to vids cos most of us watch vuds when we're on ns, but often miss sick pics/gifs/articles

Besides being a little to aggressive with the thread title, I don't understand why everyone is ganging up on him. I feel the same way, I just choose to scroll past almost everything. Occasionally when I click on a link, I often find it takes me to an edit I will not sit through or one I watched once and will not watch again.

Today there were two summer tricks posted (blind swap pretzel two, front swap front two) that I can't see why they were put up there. Congrats on the kid getting his first blind swap pretzel two, but are people really going to click on the link, sit through a 15 second ad, just to watch the 5 second clip? I do have a slight understanding of how NS determines to play ads depending on how long it has been since you have seen one, but they can't do this for embedded videos so you get an ad anyway. Cool. Its a good way to get people to put their videos on the site instead of embedding them, but maybe don't share 5 second embedded videos and also ask people not to use adblock (not sure if this has happened in a while, I don't frequent Site Discussion).

Anyway, I lost track of where I was going other than to agree that the shares seem to be getting a bit excessive. Maybe its because I spend too much time on here, maybe its because I get tired of watching mediocre edits or that I am only seeing ones I watched before. Go ahead and tell me that I should unfollow NS on facebook or quit complaining, its not going to happen. OP has a valid point and doesn't deserve everyone going against him.

I mean its all part of us trying new strategies. The bottom line with this one is that the person who sees too much repeat content on the NS Facebook page, would be better served to just visit newschoolers every day and not follow us on Facebook.

The Facebook audience is far more general and wide-spread, and as such they have been responding incredibly well to us sharing stuff that archival, re-shares and all the other stuff that you guys don't like. With the responses we've gotten from the core members, most say what the rest of the people in here are saying, which is "just scroll past it" - meaning that the amount of time it takes to ignore something makes higher share counts irrelevant.

Please do know that we're not ignoring the few people who are frustrated by this. We're putting a huge amount of time, effort and money into the creation of fresh new content, which will hopefully balance out some of the other stuff you see from the archives.

Currently though, the bottom line is that our FB Audience is treated differently than a core NSer. Core NSer will like the 'hot' and 'top rated' lists on the site, which are designed to be full of fresh non-repeating content for you. FB is for the non-core NSer who needs to get caught up on everything we have both recently and from the last few years.

Don't ever hesitate to share your frustrations, and please I do encourage you to do it constructively. As pointed out, OP was quite hostile and I will tell you that makes me want to ignore comments much moreso than it grabs my attention.

We're sharing a minimum of 24 pieces of content on Facebook per day.

It is 100% targeted at the type of user who sticks to FB on mobile vs. going to external websites.

Well, the key is if you check NS daily. If you do that, then FB is going to have a lot of repeat content for you. If you only casually stop by the site from time to time, then the FB experience is going to be great for you.

Id rather smell eheaths sweaty panties than be a mod...which is saying something because being a mod requires 0 effort. Thats how little i would want the position

yeah I agree with OP, unliked ns a while back. I come on here often enough that I really don't need 10 posts from ns on my facebook feed in a row to promote some mediocre 300 word article about nothing by a purple name or a crash that isn't even gnarly.

haha ouch. Shots fired.

It is really fustrating to want to watch a suggestion from a member; only to turn out its on facebook and I have to sign up to watch it. Its like wanting to watch a streaming video only to have to sign up to another website. I do get the annoyance.

But live with it. I dont have facebook either and I dont give enough shits to start one. There is much better content on the forums and videos, you can skip out on these threads. Then go skiing and post good shit on NS

I think i posted this in the thread in site discussion, but i'd really appreciate if if the "reposts" on facebook was actually labeled as reposts. How about just a few words like "remember this?" or "watch again!" or "throwback thursday"?

To be honest i don't know if you guys are manually posting on facebook or if its some automatic system doing it, but i really think this could easily be solved by actually letting is know if the video is new or 5 years old.

Its fly that you post content that isn't mad pros and shit. please stop posting the video of the kid at L2A doing flips off of rails and boxes I'll blow my brains out if i watch that one more time.

Its automated, and only posts in the evenings and on weekends. Nothing is more than 2 years old currently, and sadly we have no way to label it as old content.

What will happen is as the season ramps up now with snow everywhere, is the flood of new content is going to be huge.

I thought the same thing lol. There must be a glitch or something that makes that video appear every week.

We're trying to stop this happening when we see it. Don't hesitate to post up if you see something posted a rediculous amount of times!

Sometimes I see stuff posted on the NS fbook page that makes me question the fairness of what gets thrown up there and what doesn't. Seems like certain peoples work gets put on fbook regardless of how well it does on the website.

examples would be prime.

Some may be my own doing, others may be TruAnthem.
