NS do you see whats happening?

It all started with the whole anit-spin to win campaign. Ok, that's reasonable, anything over a 10 is pretty shitty looking and 7s look mighty smooth. We'll give you that one.

So people moved away from spin to win and learned different axes of rotation and out came the double flips or flips in general.

People hated on that next step and so people started liking the level1 style rail oriented crew.

People started hating on 630's on and off so pretzels became a hot topic.

Now im seeing an anti pretzel thread?! WTF NS come on, where can people progress? I mean now you have the anti spintowin/flip/pretzel thread? Jesus christ, whoever made that go fuck yourself. What do you want skiing to be? A bunch of 180's, liu kangs, and straight rail slides?

I mean seriously how can you hate on a pretzel?!

because they look bad sometimes...why does it even matter? no one is gonna keep you from doing what you want to do.

So is straight spinning MORE interesting to watch? why is it that it's justified to hate just because they aren't AS interesting to watch as they were when people started?

no, not they're still more interesting to watch than same way spins, just less interesting than weird rollerblader grinds and transfers and the shit andy parry and those kids do

and i dont think the kid who made that thread was saying they were gay or anything, he just wanted to see videos of people doing something else

Get used to it? I've only been here one year, but I can see how the hating fluctuates. It's all about what trick people are getting bored of. Once people get bored of seeing tricks, they start to hate on them. That's what I think is happening.

i agree, it just sounded like you were trying to justify poeple hating on them. I was wrong, my bad.

aww. just when you thought you had found something that you could do that had universal appeal, someone had to go and be creative. you poor skier!

Pretzels are fine, Id just rather see some variety. I dont think anyone wants to see pretzels dissapear off the face of the earth.

yeah, theres too many trends in skiing tricks, styles, attitudes, etc. im not saying its not awesome that skiing is progressing and new ideas are born, but i agree that people should not be saying that styles or tricks are "so last season".

I think this is all great for the sport. Skiing has actually become popular enough to cause groups to splinter off into distinctly different "schools". I watched a Rodney Mullen vid last night. He is arguably the most technically impressive skater. However, there are a dozen skaters who do kickflips over 3 sets that just look...well...better (to me of course). That's not to say that Rodney Mullen, or his style, is in any way inferior. All that it means is that a particular aspect of the sport (technical difficulty, creativity) was more attractive to Rodney than say style or amplitude. We need to encourage people to pursue those aspects of our sport that most appeal to them. In doing so, the progression of the sport will continue. The hating, on the other hand, needs to fall back.

Exactly. It's already branched out into (in at least freestyle) park/pipe, big mountain, and backcountry jibbing. It's dividing up now even within those. Let it be; pick what you like to do and stick with it.

yeah with danny way jumping the great wall=seth jumping redonk cliffs in another league, rodney mullen slaying urban=andy parry and the quebecs, and then ryan sheckler-=simon dumont

man quit acting like there needs to be rules in place and shit.

how about OPINION and DESCRETION

many peoples opinions lead them to speak out on wack shit, cause its wack.

the best way to contribute to where skiing is going is through your own skiing, just ski how you think skiing should be and if people like it thats where it will go.

I think that we should all do what we want, progress the sport in the way we want, and never go on the computer to see what anyone else is doing so we can't bitch about what's good and what aint!

JEA!

i'm glad you have that mindset tosh. it's too bad you are among about 1% of the sport who think like this.

the best thing is though, you will get more out of skiing than the other 99% because when you look back on it you can say, that was fucking fun instead of, what have i been doing with myself for the past 5 years.
