November 3rd Storm

I noticed today, much to my delight, that Accuweather has a storm coming at the far end of their 15 day forecast.

myforecast.com is the most optimistic of all with snow starting on the 29th, with a little break leading into the weekend of the 1st - 2nd.

It would be nice to think that we'd get a big dump that week, and see lifts turning the following weekend 11/8 or so.

Most defff, or maybe even some halloween jibbin at boreal on the maxi padgod damn its getting so close

are there usually a couple rails set up at boreal pre season just to mess around on? I am dying to get a jib sesh in.

Still a little early to know if any of this is for real . Since yesterday, Myforecast removed the chance of showers in late October, but seems to confirm a storm coming late in that first November weekend.

This lines us with the accuweather forecast, which has snow and rain on November 3 and 4 (the far end of the 15 day forecast)

We're still 6 days away from seeing this in any of the more legit forecasts (NOAA/NWS). Still, there's hope of a pretty early start.

boreal will have the jib area open on 10.25, but be ready to throw some bows cause it will be crowded. But for only $5 it is worth putting up with a ton of people.

Once we open we will have 6-8 jibs on the hill to begin with.

Sorry to report this but Myforecast dropped this to flurries starting on the 4th and Accuweather has only sun in the 15 day forecast.

The one spot of good news is this in Kirkwood's customized weather forecast:

"--Most of next week looks dry and sunny under a ridge of high pressure.

By next Thursday and Friday low-pressure moves into the Western US, and

we see clouds, showers, and winds into the weekend."

AccuWeather is a joke if you ask me. Their long term forecast is just a random ass guess I think. I only use weather.com or Nat. weather service, both are really good.

It does look like we will finally get that weather change though this week. Pineapple express is supposed to give us a wet November.

NWS as of Sunday Evening:

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Friday: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57.

Friday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Saturday: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 53.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 33.

Sunday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54.

Agreed, accuweather is a really poor predictor. Hopefully this weekend's chance of showers turns into something. My guess is that we're looking at the first or second weekend of December for the first really decent chance to ski on any decent amount of snow. A lot could change, I hope it does.

NWS Monday Afternoon:

411 PM PDT MON OCT 27 2008

...WETTER AND COOLER WEATHER LIKELY FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND...

AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF WARM AND DRY WEATHER...A STRONG STORM SYSTEM

WILL MOVE INTO THE EASTERN PACIFIC LATER THIS WEEK. THIS STORM

WILL BRING PERIODS OF RAIN AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOW TO EASTERN

CALIFORNIA AND WESTERN NEVADA FROM THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MUCH OF

THIS WEEKEND. WINDS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO INCREASE...WITH STRONG GUSTS

POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA. THE

BEST CHANCE FOR WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION IS CURRENTLY FORECAST TO

OCCUR FROM SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT.

!From the Kirkwood Customized Weather Forecast. 1.58 inches is pretty exact. I'm guessing they mean 4 cm?

maybe the one after this little one will get things started. Would be nice to think it'd just keep storming. Anything falling from the sky seems hopeful right now.

weeeeeeeeeew its kinda snowing at my house again!!!!check the boreal webcam toolooks like they got a couple inches!!

Nice to see some white in the web cams. Looks like we'll have a week break after tonight's storm fizzles. I'm back to looking at the longer term forecasts.

I'd like to think we'd be skiing the Sierras by Thanksgiving, but I still think early-mid December is much more likely. Oh how I hope I'm wrong.

I don't mean skiing a single lift on man made snow, I meant the real deal. Not to take anything away from the early openings.
