"notifications"

i think it would be sick if NS had a ntifications feature like Facebook. like when you log in, there is something in the upper left of the screen with the title "Notifications". the same thing as "messages", "friends" and "online". the notifications can be:

if someone comments on a video of yours
if someone comments on a picture of yours
if someone replied to a thread of yours..
etc.

and i just realzed this should be in the site suggestions thread... but whatever

thoughts?
 
although another facebook type idea, its not bad. i dont like going through all my vids and pics wondering if there's a comment on a mad old one.
 
^true, but id still like to be notified. i frequently forget that i even have an active thread

But yeah, not threads, that is what "my threads" is for.
 
I've been pumping this for a while now...great idea (optional of course, account info activation required). I'd love to know when people comment on my content.
 
Agreed! I think this is a kickass idea and have always loved it when the idea is tossed around. It would be great to know when your pics, videos, blogs, whatever get commented on!
 
b/c those sites make millions & millions of dollars and know whats good

not really myspace knows whats good anymore but whatever
 
im not stealing this from facebook ( i didnt say fuckin myspace), its simply a comparison to what the idea is
 
please relax bro.. it is a pain to go through a 30 min cycle everytime you log on to see if anything has happened.
 
i like this idea best, along with preview threads. i hate having to go through all my pictures to see what happened. but it should be optional, and thread notifications are too much.
 
I just click on my name and check to see if my pictures have more comments, I don't know if notifications are really necessary, but I guess it'll be alright.
 
Why the hell would we want to check every video or pic we've ever uploaded to see if someone's commented? Why don't we have a system that tells us instead? Makes so much more sense.
 
I know all we need is like a baby news feed like facebook has...sorry to compare to facebook. Its like you check your profile page and its like. So and SO has commented on such and such photo. You are now friends with blah blah.

All we need is... just something on the front page. People dont even need to see it. It can be like the front splash page...IT can be an option

Your thread has been moved to the top of the page. (this could get annoying) oh well

also useful so when people leave a comment on a picture like:

"Where was this taken?"

and it was posted say 2 years ago, you could get back to them once you see you have a notification and read it

 
I agree, people ask you questions and you dont find out about them until a couple of months later.

back in the good old days you had to check for yourself on myspace, but whatever, i wore girls pants back then, so anyways, for threads it would be nice if when you clicked on my threads there was a last active date on them instead of just a reads and comments count.
 
I hope they do that thats sick and i think the notification for the thread is nice cause i hate having to go to my profile and checking them myself it would be better if it just told me
 
i defiantly like the whole video comment and picture comment thing, great idea and become very helpful, for questions to be answered if someone asked a question you might not look but if there was something saying someone comment you're video or picture you'd look, no doubt about it
 
Great idea, this would definitely be a nice addition to the site. I am worried about the left side getting to crowded however, already not looking forward to the quick links going above friends and messages...
 
it would be especially nice when you ask what song is in the vid and the person NEVER checks back
 
ANOTHER thing this feature would be usefull for is if someone quotes you in a thread.. may it be your own thread or someone elses, its always nice to see what someone has to see about your reply... and like all the other notifications (pics, vids, etc), you should have the option to turn it off under account tools.
 
Yeah, I'd enjoy having this. Except I just use "My Threads", so the thread part would be redundant, but the rest would be sick.
 
notifications are a must, i just found out that there was a whole conversation in one of my pictures like a year ago and i didnt know
 
really good idea. it wouldnt be like facebook... its if we had "compare your friends" shit it would be
 
this is key. but please make it optional!

maybe make it notify you for messages, comments on vids and pics, comments in your feedback
 
Optional is key. And you don't need notification for messages since they appear above your friends list in an obvious manner.
