Note 3 vs HTC One vs Nexus 5

What would you guys recommend, I am switching cell providers and need to decide on a phone, I will be rooting it and putting custom ROM on it.

Overall what is your suggestion?

hax the last version of the htc one and it was a great step up from my galaxy1 and htc amaze, and was on the fenxce for hthe nexus but then i saw the lg g2 best battery every i get 24 hours of use its awesome id take a look at it

nexus will be able to support most roms better than any other. samsung runs off touchwiz and can barely support roms based on stock (cm, pa, carbon, etc) and htc is in their own little world and i know nothing about custom roms for them

I had the same 3 phones on my shopping list, and got the Note 3 a couple weeks ago. I'm still figuring it out but so far it has exceeded my expectations.

Really, all 3 seem like decent phones, none is a bad choice.

I ended up selecting the note 3 because I never talk on it; I pretty much use it just for internet. For that purpose, the larger screen size and pen make a huge difference in how usable it is. The split screen mode where you can use 2 apps at once is really helpful too.

The pen gives you the precision you need for stuff like remote desktop or accessing non-mobile versions of web pages. This can be super-frustrating to do using your fingers on a regular phone or even a tablet, but it actually works OK with the pen. The hover function of the pen lets you see where you're going to click before you do it, rather than just poking the screen with your finger and hoping for the best. If you use remote desktop, get the Microsoft app for it since it supports the pen properly.

I was hesitant about the size of the note 3 at first, but it hasn't been an issue so far (however it's winter and I'm always wearing a coat with giant pockets).

I haven't messed around with ROMs yet but in my research it seemed like the T-mobile variant of the phone was the most flexible. There are 5 or 6 different note 3 variants, some of which support 4G/LTE and some that don't.

Also, there's a Chinese knockoff note 3 (labelled with Samsung branding and packaging and everything, looks almost identical, but with substandard hardware inside) so watch that you don't end up with one of those through a shady craigslist deal.

Personally I would wait about a month. HTC will be announcing the one replacement, Samsung's coming out with the S5, and LG announcing a replacement for the G2.Then you can either get one of those, or pick up an older generation for cheaper.

I have the HTC one and it is awesome. however you should wait for the one-two, or whatever the replacment is.

I jsut really like that it's metal. as for the phone. well it's fast and it runs android so pretty much the same as anything else. battery life is OK. gotta charge it everyday though.

Well I am switching this Friday so sadly the new gen. of phones wont be out, I am digging all the specs. inside the Note, 3 gb of RAM!!!!

Sadly, AT%T hates custom ROMS so I will have to do some work around things with that. HTC One is a classy looking phone, but I think I am gonna go for the stuff inside rather then the look.

I am gonna be completely honest with you, from a tech/ spec. side iPhones suck. Yes they look very nice and build quality is decent. And they "work." But I do a lot of programming and I make my own Operating System for my phone and you really cant do that with the iPhone, or any Apple products.

But I do have to say, they look nice...

Thats not true at all... The 5/5s is a solid phone. iOS is just so much less customizable than an android operating system. All it really comes down to is personal preference. This whole "iPhone or Android" Fight/debate is so fucking stupid.

Custom ROM with Android... you can make your own operating system, look up cyanogen mod if you are interested.

But yes I do have to give it to Apple, the 5s is pretty cool

I got a note 3 about a month ago, it's a great phone. The nexus 5 is awesome though and I didn't get it because I'm on verizon. You could wait for the s5 tho

I wouldnt get note 3 for customizing roms because samsung is developing a code that will shut down your phone if your rooted (knox security) and nexus phones are prettt much made to be rooted and customized, google does not care one bit

I have the nexus 5 and i LOVE it. Pros:

-Great Battery life

-Friendly user-interface

-Fast

-Great Front/Back Camera

-HD Screen

Cons:

-Everything is google

-Default SMS app is Google Hangouts

Had the HTC dna, liked it a lot but broke easily. Finally had an upgrade last week so I went in. I liked the note on paper but it's too big. I got the s4 with a life proof case, it fits in my pocket but it's sizeable. I feel like the note is too big

The reason I switched from iPhone to HTC was because of the bigger screen, Linux comparability, and it was actually built as well as an Apple product. I buy Apple laptops because they are just built the best. This metal phone is built as good as an Apple phone. So much nicer than a galaxy.
