Hey! So I was shooting some rolling shots of my friend's A4, and was wondering what you think I could improve.

Whether you are a car guy or not, what do you like? What do you dislike? What should I do differently? What should I keep doing? K+ for help

Shot on Canon 7D mk2 with the kit 18-55.

43mm, f/14, 1/20, ISO 100

36mm, f/8, 1/20, ISO 100

18mm, f/16, 1/20, ISO 100

41mm, f/8, 1/30, ISO 100

these are all decent, but i think what they're really missing is a more interesting or appealing background, and maybe a different angle. im sure youve already seen good rollers but here are a few from a guy in my city.

obviously a really nice car can make a photo that much better, but these shots are quite simple, but they look quite good. i know you were just practicing and playing around, but if youre going to shoot a car/ subject that doesnt particularly "wow" people, the photo should. i think the first one is your best cause it freezes the car the most out of all of them.

on a side note, i started filming a feature video of my friends 240sx. probably will be done after school is over.

Thanks for the advice! Having a good looking car is certainly helpful, and I totally get the need for a good subject, I'll keep trying and see where it goes!

Thanks

Looks dope! Love the shutter effect. Could have used some more post productions. Brought up exposure a bit and a little more contrast

Yeah, I would have liked to do both of those things in a couple of them, but I found when I did the reflection of the sky would become almost totally white, and the car would look black, and I was tryna keep the car from losing its dark/navy blue color.

Sky replacement in photoshop and mask around the car and bring up the sat/exposure on the car

Oh believe me, I tried, but couldn't get it to look quite right, there is only so much you can do with a photo, and with the rain, it was quite a process.

I see and I didn't know that it was raining my bad

That complicates things

Most certainly, when you look at the before after like that, you get a good sense of the amount of editing that had been done already.

Third one's definitely my favorite. Moving subjects generally look best placed towards the back of the frame so that the front is more centered. The background isn't distracting which is nice but a more interesting one would be better. Car shots are often more about the location that the car is in than the car itself. The background sets the tone then the car compliments it.

If you can match the cars speed pretty well I might try a longer shutter speed to see if I could get more background blur or keep the same shutter speed and move a little faster. I would just experiment the exposure is solid in all of them o though but I just glanced at them really

Thanks for the advice, here in VT, smooth roads hardly exist. And anything more than 1/20th of a second tends to be too shakey.
