Not really that Superunknown

This year’s superunknown was pretty disappointing I agree. I don’t understand why Level 1 recycles a few of the same finalists every season. Isn’t the point of the contest to give up coming kids acknowledgement who otherwise fly under the radar?

Honestly I feel like Level 1 just established themselves at the exact right point in skiing history. Their media is pretty lame and played out imo. I haven’t given a shit about any of their movies since like Partly Cloudy. Good Company and The Bunch are where it’s at right now.

Tru it’s kinda the nature of the business. The bunch, good company and other groups like that are on the rise and competing against level 1. I really like the idea of superunknown tho and it’s a bummer that they’re bringing back old finalists because I think they’re trying to make it more of a competition than a talent search. Still fun to watch tho

Ya idk no offense to any finalist, but people like Knut Fineid, Cody Ray, and Dane Kirk should have definitely not been semi finalists...

Some people like Simon bartik arnt well known and fit the the description for what super unknown should be, however superunkown is more of just a big competition for film skiers. It's rare for a skier to be super good and not be known because of Instagram these days. Superunkown was made before insta, but now because of Instagram superunkown wouldn't work if no one was known.

I agree, but i'll buy the movie to see p-white's shots as it looks like he is back filming with them.

If Level 1 knows they are automatically going to get a lot more views because of people who entered the contest who are popular right now and people want to watch why wouldn't they put them in finals. Its an obvious strategy for more publicity which is essentially what film skiing is for both the skiers and Level 1. In the end they are a business not a charity, so they have to do what works to get them more viewership. That being said it is still sick this comp exists and at least there is a chance for skiers to get recognized through it.

That's not how finalists are selected, a large group of people watch every video and judge everyone equally. The top 9 videos were selected because they were the best videos according to in depth judging, not to "put more popular people in the event to get more views".

I feel like I see this thread every superunknown. They pick the 9 best video submissions. They picked Hess because he submitted a video which they felt was part of the best 9. Maybe we should be questioning why Hunter Hess submitted a video even though he's becoming pretty well known... but the answers are kinda obvious. He wants to participate in the dope event, he wants more publicity, and he wants to ski for Level 1. All of those are great reasons so I feel like judgement over it is unnecessary

Everyone is basically known these days with instagram and the internet, it not like they pick people who have put out several segments with bigger compaanies and winning superunknown solidifies you with filming with Level 1 for the upcoming season and hopefully more.

The guy won dew tour for gods sake 😤 Smh might as well invite tanner hall at this point. Have you guys heard about Lupe Haggarty?!

To be fair, Hunter Hess was the back-up skier for the Dew Tour Team challenge. Volkl originally slated Kevin Rolland for the modified halfpipe, but due to injuries or travelling schedule or who knows what else the spot went to Hunter. Volkl just happen to be the team who won.

Not to mention, he got his SLVSH cup invite because volkl helped sponsor the entire competition - of course they were allowed to enter some of their athletes. Hunter is also a slapp user and had previously filmed for slvsh in singular games so it worked out perfectly. Honestly, good on him for taking the opportunity and finishing in 4th.

(I had to double check on the volkl invite)https://instagram.com/p/BfzNi0QA8j0/

So he may not be *super unknown* but the contest could still give him opportunities he wouldn't have otherwise. Please correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't that what the super unknown contest is all about? Giving skiers filming opportunities who haven't yet made it to the big screen?
