Not only is RCR gettin rid of jumps...

if i was a cat driver at one of the resorts i would set the rails up so they needed a huge lip and landing and then they would double as a jump and when they came to inspect there would just be big mounds of snow with rails on top of them

That is a solid looking rail line-up.

On the other hand, Matt said in that interview: https://newschoolers.com/web/content/news/news_id/1712/

'The problem with the fencing off the park and the park pass system is that you can’t monitor it enough. You can’t prevent people from going in the park just by putting a fence up. They’ll just duck the rope and do it anyway.'

I wonder what changed their mind. $5 for a park pass doesn't make it seem like a financial thing. Other places are at least $20. Maybe it's just to reduce the number of people using it?

ya but... you get 5 whole dollars to use at the coffee bar or whatever.

wow... thanks guys, I so am not boycotting now. wow. wow.

Id boycott just cause they have shitty food... can a brother get a hotdog? no I dont want a grilled cucumber wrap.. dang!

As far as I'm concerned they should be boycotted, that means not riding their hills, riding their rails, and not going to any of their rail jams as well.

Maybe then they will realize that a park without jumps is not going to cut it, regardless of how many rails they buy.

In fact I hope they spend a shitload of money on fancy new rails and not one skier or boarder even shows up to look at them.

That is such fucking bullshit. Sure people can duck ropes, but it does a TON for detering it.

I mean its illegal to murder people, but that doesn't stop a few from doing it. It would be pretty fucking stupid logic if we said "Ah fuck it... we probably shouldn't bother making murder illegal... I mean even if you make it illegal some people are going to do it anyways."

This whole thing is total crap. Is anyone actually going to do that protest at the World cup? For the sake of the future of skiing I really hope you are. Don't let them get away with this. Parks are an important part of our sport, and are one of the few things that make skiing fun for us East coasters.

That rail park is a joke. If you're going to have no jumps you should have like 100 rails. $5 to ride a rail park? Go fuck yourself.

3. Why not use a controlled access program?

For the 2007/08 season, our parks will have controlled access. Visitors

to our rail and box parks will need to acquire a season access pass,

available at all resort Guest Services for a nominal cost of $5 per

person. (You will receive a season access pass and a $5 certificate

good for redemption at our Slopeside Coffee Bars).

yea, this is a joke. RCR obviously doesnt realize that rails are just as dangerous as jumps (metal vs. snow, ill choose snow everytime. what the fuck happened to personal responsibility.

RCR= Really Crappy Resorts.

they havent had pipes for like 3 years.

and nakiska better have rails because if they dont they are seriously fucked.

the only reason people went to nakiska last year was because it was close and they have a park.

I love! Doug's response...RCR is fuckin retarded...how bout we just use park passes like they do in the black park at whistler and have your parents or some shit like that sign a waiver if ur under 18...this is a very bad decision by RCR

This is gnarly. I never thought something like this would happen in the ski/snowboarding industry. I can't imaging what it would be like to call one of the areas home. And people are going to get so wrecked trying switch 9's over rails. I know that if I didn't have park jumps I would boost over rails.

i dont understand the no park pass arguement. the rcr guy said you can duck a rope. why don't you put up a fence, like a ever other park in the fuckin world? you can't duck a fuckin fence. then they went ahead and instated park passes. they seem confused at rcr. plus how are you going to get onto the rails if you dont have manmade jumps. rails have takeoffs and landings, too.

yes! i want that 5 bucks to the slopeside coffee shop!

and wow! no jumps, but we havea rail park with like 15 rails!

ive gotten hurt alot more on jumps than on rails.  as long as the jumps are built right and have a long landing they are usually very safe,  i have fallen extremely bad on the jumps at keystone and breck, but because they are designed so well it feels like your falling off a kiddy park box or something.

instead of taking away jumps totally they should just spend alot more time building them well.

anyway taking away jumps is like taking away most of a whole sport, groomer skiing and park skiing are different sports, and i dont think resorts like this realise that.

Thank you Doug! I don't want anything from your fucking coffee shop. And 8 more rails, woohoo, they are prolly going to fuck up setting them up anyways. Tempted to go protest now.

i refunded my RCR pass this week, fuck em if they dont want to support the sport

i think everyone should stop going to any RCR place, head out to sunshine or norquay, kicking horse, or castle, and if u refund ur pass, u can get a sunshine pass for the early bird price! and they are adding alot more to their park this year

DOWN WITH RCR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not too hip on the organizations of the ski industry but what is the World Cup that some have said they will protest at??? Is that a racing organization?? Sounds like a way to get lots of coverage I guess.

If you really want to send a message to RCR about their parks why not protest their parks events. Wouldn't it show them the NS community means business if everyone agreed on a total boycott of this.....

"5. Will there be events in the parks this year?

Skiers and riders can look forward to an RCR Rail Jam Series that will be happening at all of our Resorts this season. Please visit the events calendar at www.skircr.com/events for more details."

How shitty would they feel if they got 0 turnout for their Rail Park Jam Series??? Maybe that wouldn't lead in a productive direction though, just something else to think about.

Thats not a bad idea, but what I would do instead is get everyone you know to go there and then dont do the comp. Protest about the state of the parks and dont ski/board at the rail jam, just use the location to protest this bullshit. Obviously people will go watch the rail jam that have no idea what it is but when you protest they will also see what crap this is. What can they do if your protesting unviolently???

I aa seriously considering ski-streaking during the kimberley event, backflipping all of the HUGE rail jumps with "fuck rcr" painted on my naked body. whos with me?

if they don't think that fencing wil keep people out they're obviously using the wrong fencing. Throw up some of that orange mesh fencing that's several feet tall. good luck getting around that without getting noticed.
