Not Just A Pretty Face - Kickstarter

I don't get why they couldn't find a single source of revenue for this film aside from crowd-sourcing.

Or why they didn't look harder?

Ski marketing dollars are extremely thin, even more so for a ladies only production. While I agree and am not a fan of crowd funding, this sounds like it could be a good flick. Hope it gets made, just not with my money.

hmmm

doubtful

but seriously...how much return is a company REALLY going to get off of what it puts in to an all female freeride/jib movie? these have been attempted before and their there is a track record of financial failure. We can talk about how progressive/inspiring/eye opening a good girl vid could be, but if it isnt likely to translate into sales, then it isnt going to get sponsors dollars.

But throwing 20k at an all female movie is a pretty solid PR move. Especially right now.

Even with no real sales return, if K2 puts their stamp on this kind of film, they'll see the return in company support because they're totally pro-ladies.

so, there was recently this article having to do with womens athletics and sex appeal and some people got upset and parodies were made and it was this big deal, and dyer comes in asking for money to make an all girls movie called "Pretty Faces". i mean, what the fuck.

They're doing what they know will sell.

.....like every other media outlet in the world.

Welcome to hypocrisy. It's an everyday event and its legacy is far reaching.

It is very hard to get funding for new projects in snowsports these days. Marketing dollars are extremely thin.

It isn't a correct assumption though that a women's movie has no ROI - women's skis are a very valuable segment of the industry and I would imagine that there are definitely sponsor dollars out there to get them.

The problem usually is being new, and not wanting to sacrifice anything. When you get sponsors for a project, that comes with needs from those sponsors and you're never quite as free as if you're self funded. Being new causes the fact that you may get very little in the first year until you've proven yourself.

Crowd funding seems like a very solid way to film a movie that fits outside of the conventional mould, and to not have to go insane finding sponsors for a year before anyone gives you a chance.

Its funny though - most crowd-funded projects in Skiing seem to do really badly. I don't know what it is that causes that, as we actually are a very wealthy sport overall. Perhaps we pay enough for gear that we expect the companies we spend the crazy amounts of cash with to foot the bill for our media.

Or girls can just go out and make a movie. Then of course, you end with something like this...

So do the pinknames get to be outraged, or will the come together to support their homegirls project? What a dilemma.

i wouldnt watch this even if it was free. guys are better at skiing so id rather watch that. sorry ladies.

"We will take as much money as youre willing to give"

Yup, obvious female mentality.

Pretty faces? The name of the movie proves what they are in the extreme sports worlds eye. Probabllly the worst possible name.

Alot of the shot in the videos were of guy skiers. How could I tell? They did a grab.

A 100% female ski or snowboard film has been done many times. How many times has it been a big hit?

You don't need a budget to make a ski movie. While it does help you should make one for the love of it first and if it is dope maybe some money will trickle in. This makes me sick.

The streets are extremely cheap, if they are good skiers in a area of good skiing I am positive they have friends that have a genny they can borrow, or hit urban during the day, it is actually pretty easy to not get busted.

Pow is also really cheap, you can get a touring setup for $200 bucks not including skis. (I know because I did).

Do it for the love of the sport.

I really love the idea of inspiring young women and girls to ski and to do what they want...but I feel like how she's going at it is way too feminist. Just like how she says herself that women are told they can't play sports, it's like shes telling girls to believe that..idk. just mentioning the feminist view kinda blew it...but i do hope the kick start pulls through and they can make an awesome film

Classiest out

Here's another look in the trailer, definitely worth checking out
