A company is a business that is legit in the eyes of the government. aka getting a business liscence or forming a corporation. Just because you aren't a huge ski manufacturer doesnt mean you arent a real company.

i think if you make something tangable and sell it on a regular basis (ie. not just making one batch or whatever and calling it quits) makes you a company. making a profit is also pretty essential as well, but not as much as just getting a name out there with your stuff.

getting a company started up in terms of registration is a bitch though. trademarking is $340 alone (for one graphic or your name or combo of both), registration with the state as a company typically runs around $100, getting a resellers and business license is a whole other thing entirely. but i think if you have the drive to go through all those steps and keep producing, you definately qualify as a company in my eyes.

i think a company has to have some recognition by their target market, it cant be a self-proclaimed business

there are lots of companies that exist that might not always make a profit, but they are still companies. If you've legally registered with the government and pay the appropriate taxes, you're a company. If you just sell stuff out of your basement or something, its a side-project, and thats cool too..
