I was wondering who goes to school here? and if anyone knows any good info about the school and more importauntly the skiing, thanks peeps

Dont go there personally, been up there a few times. Great area in Marquette especially if your the outdoorsy type. It is very scenic up there. The skiing is good at Marquette Mt and Mt. Bohemia only a little drive away. School itself dont know a whole lot of except they have a lot of snow cows haha. Hope I was of some help....

Marquette has a pretty good park (Some of the best jumps in the Midwest if you ask me). They get a good amount of snow too.

hey guys
i go to school here. im from the suburbs of chicago and marquette is a great place. love it in the fall and even more in the winter. here are a few videos i shot and edited last year at marquette mountain.

those where sick. do you guys sometime ride at boyne mountain? i feel like i have seen you guys there.... does anyone go to michigan tech? if so, do they have a lot of good strret rails and how is the mountain there?

im from illinois so ive never been to boyne before. some of the skiers in my video have im sure seeing as how they are from downstate.

I go to school here. Im majoring in SKi Area Business management. I wouldn't go to school anywhere else. NMU is by far my favorite university that Ive been to. Super fun in the summer, dumps in the winter, and everyone loves to party, and the girls are super under rated. MQT mountain is 5 mins away and Bohemia is worth the drive up north.

Definitely check us out

yeah NMU looks cool. me and my cousin might take a trip up there or either MTU this winter to get some riding in, and to "look" around the campus and college life up there.

I go to Northern and you should to. Sweet skiing, great summer around the lake and trails here. Really fun town. I wouldn't be anywhere else...

I also went to school at NMU for Ski Area Business Management, and now I own THE COMPOUND Ski Shop. We are a freestyle ski shop only , we sold 100 pairs of twins last year, and I bring this up because the freestyle scene is THICK up here. Always cool people to ride with, lots and lots of Urban riding, (specially since I just bought a Wakeboard/ Urban winch for easy tow-ins.

As far as the school goes, great program in the SAM classes, and even better it is super easy to balance ride time with school because you can ski until 10 min befor eyour class and still make it there on time... campus is 5 miles from the Ski hill!

yea ive been to the compound a bunch and i met you a couple times. great business you got there
marquettes where its at

Really, forget NMU. 1) Marquette mountain may be a good place to ride, but you still have to buy a season pass. 2) NMU IS A CLOWN COLLEGE. SKI AREA MANAGEMENT IS NOT A REAL MAJOR, NEITHER IS OUTDOOR RECREATION OR ANY OTHER BOZO BS THEY WILL SLAP ON YOU. IT IS A WASTE OF A LIFE (not just hating). 3) The Huron mountain club fucks you over on all the good back country crushing you could do.
Tech has your lift pass to Rips included in the tuition, plenty of peaks in the Keweenaw with runs cut down them if you know where to look, and we're only a 45 minute from Bohemia.
Oh yah, one more thing: NMU GIRLS ARE ACTUALLY COWS. NONE OF THEM ARE REMOTELY GOOD LOOKING AND IF THEY ARE, THEY'RE INSTANTLY SNATCHED BY HOCKEY PLAYERS FOR THEIR TEAM.
Do yourself a favor: go to Tech and don't waste your life.

woooo calm down broo. The mountain is sick, especially for a 5 minute drive... People can take any major they want, it's their choice, why the fuck do you care? There are plenty more programs at Northern that are just as good or better than tech. You do have better BC but we have some pretty good stuff and a better park as well.. Finally Northern has girls, Tech does not. Enjoy the sausage fest, and cheer up!

Damn, You MAD.

I love how "students" from tech go out of their way to rip so hard on NMU. NMU/Marquette is a great community/school to live and learn. I can understand that its easy to be jealous. Houghton doesn't have too much going on.

And by the way, NMU's Ski Area Management program attracts students from across the country, and produces some of the most successful individuals in the industry. I suggest you keep quiet about an industry you probably know very little about.

Additionally, the land the Huron Mtn Club controls is so out of the way it is really a non-factor. Its beyond the average skiers desire to tour all the way out there.

Take your hate somewhere else.

....wow a whole season pass, you know what im just paying for out of state tution i should probably go to a school where i can save what 300? than that way i could also be with what sounds like a bunch of haters, no thanks

Hi. I am a girl... I went to Northern... I am not a SAM or an outdoor rec alumni. I am not a cow & NEVER dated a hockey player (or soccer or rugby for the sake of argument). I worked for Marquette Mountain, never once paying for a season pass.

Northern was the best years of my life. I worked for skibmc for most of them and met some of the best people and friends for life. The beaches are amazing. Mountain biking and surfing in the summers. The university is not top rated but its small and humble. I studied geography and my professors still keep in touch with me.

I would like to respond to the idiot from TECH that is such a hater!

First off, the General Manager of Mt. Ripley, Nick Sirdenis, is a former Ski Area Management Graduate,

Secondly, The NMU guy to girl rate is 40% guys 60% girls, that came from NMU's enrollment numbers last year.

So enjoy your sausagefest at Tech, I am sure you will enjoy your lack of women in HOEtown, and enjoy yourself (pun intended) in HANDCOCK

Hahaha, there are TONS of hot girls at NMU. I just graduated in art and design from there. Most of the ladies don't hang with the hockey crowd anyway. MM is SICK and so is all the rest of Marquette. You should go there, the last 4 years are the best I've ever had. I wouldn't have changed a thing!

When I went to NMU, a lot of Tech kids came to MQT every chance they could to party with our girls, and ski marquette mountain. There also wasnt any hate between the colleges?
I live in Colorado now, but would love to move back to Marquette. It's honestly a great place to go to school. I've always aid if I wont he lottery I'd spend my winters out here and summers in Marquette, best summer town I;ve ever been to.

Amen.

I get to go back for a week this month and its already breaking my heart thinking of leaving... and I'm not even there yet.

Techfags always rip on the NMU girls yet they always magically show up on the weekends to hit on them. You see, girls at Tech are like parking spots, all the good ones are taken and the rest are handicapped.

I just visited. My liver hurts and my voice is gone. This town is really where its at... I missed the surf though for a wedding :( the ONLY downfall in my trip. Oh and for the girls, I forgot how many hot men are around this town as well...

Don't base which school your going to completely on the location. I was first looking at Northern but they didn't offer the major I wanted to go into so I decided on Tech. I still go down to Marquette a few times during the winter to ski and then a couple more in the summer to mtn bike. So just base it off what you want to major in. I will admit that if you want to party, northern is the place to be. Tech is more of a drinking school than a party school. Also don't listen to shagglesiam because someone obviously pissed in his cherrios.

I'm a local been here most of my life, been to both MTU and NMU. Both schools are good depending on your major. What major you thinkin? Skiing is awesome and I'm always skiing between classes and last year if you got out for first chair you would get first tracks in the park daily. Come here!

woah, just passing through here and i think the waffle fries at vangos are reason enough to come here.-SoulSkier

Now that is what I am talking about, hahahahaaha. I looooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Vangos, you should also try their Chicken/Beef Nachos. They are to die for and delic.
