North Lake Tahoe housing

On the hunt for a room to rent in Tahoe City, Truckee or anywhere in the area. I know it’s tough to find something but I’m gonna be working at Alpine and would rather not have to drive up from Reno.

Join the facebook groups and check CL put a post up on both. Housing is getting harder but still doable. Sooner you get on it the better. Closer to winter more people start rolling in and it csn be pretty tough. Good luck!!

Good luck. Last time I lived there I was lucky enough to find a room I could afford, but the living arrangements were NOT ideal at all. It's extremely tough for locals who actually work there...

The wages have come up significantly the last 3 years which helps. That said the move to remote work from the bay and airbnb vibes have gotten real bad. Still places that aren't fucked but living in Tahoe for cheap is like a decade ish idea at this point.

Also OP I've lived on friends couches or when new at the motel 6 in reno on weekly rate while looking for places. Check out your options. Def a lot of people looking this time of yeat but you're earlier than the complete insanity. Hope you find something! Stay on it!

Oh dude, for cheap places in Tahoe you have to go back to maybe 2009... and even then it was comparatively expensive to some places and you had to be lucky to find something really nice...

Does Alpine have anything you can split with other people in your department? I know employee housing gets a bad rep depending on where you're at but it wouldn't be bad to shack-up with people who are on a similar work schedule like you. That way you don't have a bartender roomate or something who comes home at 2am every night.

squawlpine housing is extremely limited, and you are placed in one of the hotels. You are far better off and more likely finding a place elsewhere.

OP it is super tough and expensive to find a place in or around north Tahoe. But it is possible. Facebook and stuff are good to try to find groups/workers in a similar situation as you. I would start now. If all else fails Reno is just down the road and a lot of the employees have been forced down there. Verdi, and mogul shave a good chunk of the drive off and allow you to skip a lot of the chain control line.

Ive also had friends have luck in hirschdale throughout the years which is just outside truckee towards NV.

Good luck my friend.

Been living here for a decade and it has gotten ROUGH out here.

rent has basically doubled in the last 4-5 years.

I would suggest living in your car, saving all your cheese, and getting a gym membership in Truckee.

OR

start dating someone who has housing =Problem solved.

Thanks for the input guys!

Call the all the motels in Kings Beach and Tahoe City asking for monthly rentals you might luck out. 10 years ago the rooms could be had for $600/mo in the winter. I don't think you'll get that but who knows some of them might have no staff to clean the rooms for nightly guests.

A lot of the j1s buy out the hotels. Was hooking up with somebody that lived with like 7 people in a hotel. Anything is possible but I think getting a hotel spot might be pretty tough these days.
