north face

what do people think of north face clothing, im thinking of getting the north face troop jacket in orangem it looks good but i dont know what the quality is like?

i have a north face, not sure what kind, it looks good and the liners hella warm, but the zipper broke the month i got it. they have a good warranty though and they fixed it for me.

North Face sucked for a while but now they are back with the good stuff. The jackets that I've looked at the shop where I work look great. They seem really durable especailly the new ones that are infused or whatever. The rep had great things to say bout all their new stuff and yes they have a good warranty department.

I think rails in general are just a phase. - Anthony Boronowski

well in like 98 the original creators of north face were bought out by Vanity Fair(no joke) and the original north face ppl created mountain hardwear.

personally i wouldnt buy northface because youll look like a poser(every single atlantan that goes skiing only once a year and that is upper middle class and white wears northface) also the quality isnt the same as it was when it was under its previous ownership. the shit they made in the 70s and 80s and90s is outstanding- my dad still has a sleeping bag from them that hebought in like 74 and still uses it.

may i suggest arcteryx siver cartel marmot orage or o'neill

every little preppy fuck at my school (bascially everyone) wears north faces fleeces....its sad.

dave murray session 1 rocked..

North FAce outerwear is still decent, there basics are crap. Get Mountain Hardware if your looking for some tech gear

yeah alot of the sorority girls at school wear the north face fleeces around as well...it pisses me b/c they dont even do sports

Don't hate the player. Hate the game!

yea like even my bestfriends wear n face and they go skiing once a year and thats the only out door sport they do and think theyre so core because they have n face. i laugh but some girls look hot in pink and grey n face fleeces

Lame. North Face is for people who ski once a year and think they're all 'techy' for buying North Face. And yes, since they were bought by that big mego-o-company their quality has sucked.

i couldnt have summed it up better boo kitty.......you got the typical n face user exactly right

north face stuff is way, way overpriced. if you're going to drop that much on a jacket or pants or camping equipment, think about how many years you're going to use it and the abuse that it will be taking. i agree, quality has really declined over the years. however, i really liked their backpacks for school.

North face and Patagonia, agreed, that its way overpriced, but its quality stuff at the same time. I got a huge furry patagonia jacket for half price though on the internet site and it was still like $90. Mostly I wear Burton stuff though because I get it for less than half price.

i have a north face jacket. Its red and warm. If i take the lining out its cold.

Dont go to England...E V E R

yeah, north face has strong roots, and I really like their high-end stuff, but it is overpriced because of the name...

mtn hardwear is even better tech stuff.

I think it's awesome that north face stuff is so popular -- our sport needs as much money as we can get. I hope more and more skiing-based companies gain in popularity...we need more ppl to get interested in skiing, before our athletes will ever make what golf, tennis, football, and basketball athletes make. It's a joke that someone like Tanner or McConkey barely makes 6-digits a year, while Shaq is making $30MM a year. And it's all because more ppl are basketball nuts than ski nuts. we need MORE PPL who are into SKIING!

that's my 2cents

well theres no way in hell skiings ever going to be like baseball or football... but 6 digits a year is not bad for skiing? Thats actually a good amount of money...

patj

I have had a north face fleece for 5 years now and the only problem i have had is a cigarette burn hole in the back. Just because its not the coolest thing to wear doesnt mean that it wont last forever and be warm.

their stuff is alright, but extremely overpriced because of the name. Columbia's Titanium line is very similar. It's quality stuff, but really not worth what they're expecting you to pay.

Go for something like Helly Hansen or Orage. They aren't necessarily 'cheap', but you get what you pay for.

north face really doesn't focus on skiing. more of the climbing/hiking/camping market, from the advertising i've seen.

well, maybe there's no way in skiing will ever be as big as football...

but maybe we can help it get a whole lot closer than it is now... I like that quote up above about Punk and the world -- we really can influence what becomes reality, especially in such a small, tight industry like skiing is.

6-digits is great money, but that's a huge exception to the rule in this industry, for an athlete. and we could make it a lot more common if we accept and encourage gapers and weekend warrior posers, because they will come into the sport and spend money, and idolize their heroes, and the athletes will (hopefully) end up benefitting from it financially.

For example, almost every mountain has a freeride team now... What if the freeride teams of different mountains started challenging each other on their own turf? Then the home mountain would rally the community around its athletes and the competition would be scored individually (like wrestling, swimming, or gymnastics), but in the end the dominant team would win the match. Individual glory, but also team spirit. Then you've got the local mountain's communities showing up for the events and cheering on their mountain's athletes against the other mountain's visiting team. Then you're creating really cool events for the community to go to -- especially if it's at night under the lights, like a halfpipe comp, with a band and food and the local news and everything. That would not be too tough for a ski hill to pull off -- they would LOVE the publicity, and it wouldn't cost much. Something like that could quickly snowball into something bigger, if it turns into being more of a spectator sport where eventually ppl actually pay to go watch.

it may never reach the scale of football, baseball, or even a little sport like rugby. but it would definitely increase the exposure for the athletes to non-skiers who like to spectate, which would increase $$$ for the industry to the athletes, since resorts would begin to actually PAY the best athletes to ride for their team...

I know this isn't a perfect plan, but it's a thought... what do you guys think??

NOTE: we need more ppl in skiing -- even if they are gapers and 40-yr old weekend warrior wannabees -- before there will be enough money in this industry to begin to pay the athletes what they are worth.

Most of the athletes chose skiing because they don't care about money as much as they love to ski. I think your just disillusioned... why not wish for world peace after we make skiing a more nationalionally viewed sport?

ill never wear north face in the elements only out so i can fit in with the rest of the poseurs that wear them becuse theyre popular in atlanta

yeah i dont like it much.....at least not for jibbing....its not very stylie at all...and as much as i hate saying that yeah its a for those preepy rich kids that ski once a year....its true..id much rahter have something siver, orage, burton, or oakley over northface anyday...

hazel

well, you might be right...I'm bugged that it's not recognized. but I'm not in dreamland -- I know I'll never be an athlete at that level.

and you're totally right -- being an athlete should always be about the love of the sport, just as it should be in other sports, too. I just think that our athletes deserve a better deal than they're currently getting, and my mind is always thinking about what to do to help change that...that's all.

NOTE: we need more ppl in skiing -- even if they are gapers and 40-yr old weekend warrior wannabees -- before there will be enough money in this industry to begin to pay the athletes what they are worth.

i know what you mean, but i dont want skiing to become like skateboarding or even snowboarding where its all over old navy clothes and everyone does it. i want jibbing to be in a league like BMX where its widely known and respected but not every joe schmo can be like o i can 270 off

Mountain Hardware-Veryy good quality stuff except they are costly for that quality

Aretryx-Same as Mountain Hardware

Marmot-Less expensive than Mtn Hardware adn ARteryx, but not quite as good quality wise

North Face-About even with Marmot, little cheaper than marmot, but slightly less quality

Columbia- Cheap, in both terms of the word
