For what skiing is the hard setting used for? I've always had mine on soft, but what would hard be for? big mountain?
 
putting them on the hard setting just makes the power transfer more efficient. so if you wanna ski aggresivly you can stiffen them up. if you wanna ski more playfully, keep them soft. you'll notice it on groomers, you can load the skis up more. I think of it like hard snow = hard setting, soft snow = soft setting.
