ok so i am new to building jibs and i am trying to build a semi portable one that i can bring to the onlyhill we have on campus and keep it in my appt.

i made a thread in ski gabber and was tols that a shotgun pvc rail would be a god bet... my question is what is this? does someone have a picture of one?

I am very mechanically inclined and can build pretty much anything so if anyone has more suggestionsfor me that would be awesome

p.s i am trying to do this for as cheap as possible.... college

heres a pic of a single barrel shotgun rail...most shotguns are double barrel though, so there are 2 pvc pipes next to eachother

alright you will want a pvc rail for sure. mainly because its cheap and very light and portable. I am not sure exactly what you want but I will toss out a few suggestions. Most people make 10 foot rails when it comes to pvc because i guess 10ft pvc is the easiest to get. Now 10 feet is really short and will get boring very quickly. So i am going to suggest 2 of them. 2 10ft flat rails are honestly the most versatile rails you can have. You can prop them up to make an Aframe, make it a Flat down, down flat, you can do gaps. endless opportunities. I am not sure how large your appartment is but that is what i am going to suggest.

And for the edges. It shouldn't dig into the pvc, but be careful. The pvc isn't metal and is softer so you have to still be careful. If you are looking for pvc instructions look into some more threads in here and you will be golden.

Hope that helped!

that was great man, me and my buddy are gonna start drawing up some plans soon, ill post pics when im done and see if i made a decent 1st jib

yeah i would build 2 12 foot pvc shot guns i have a 1 12ft double barrel pvc, 1 18ft double barrel pvc ,1 10ft mini a-frame box pvc, 1 bike rack, 1 15ft metal box, 1 10ft up single barrel pvc, and i almost done a metal 12ft double barrel, but i show u one of them that would be good

i am an hour away from completing a 12foot double barrel rail. i took pictures of each step and can give you step by step instructions as well as a list of all the materials needed. the 12 foot came out to about $55 and took about 4 hours of labor with three people(so far...)

all you need is a saw and a drill. an electric screw driver would be very nice, but if you can't find one, go easy with a drill.

PM me if you want the details and i should have a thread about my experience up by tomorrow.

This also falls under the 'noob question' category...but how do u guys go about connecting the pvc to the wood base? Do you just screw it from the bottom? Thanks!!

yeah make sure that you have a decent amount of screws in there cuz, as you could imagine, constant use will try to tear the pvc up. And also, i saw the first post and i was confused by it. I'm pretty sure that, by definition, a shotgun rail is a rail with two pipes. Like this ==---> OO
