Bhayter10, I think it was just a dream, and she killed herself because she saw the blue key on the table: Rita was dead. Then she mastrurbated and cried at the same time, remeniscing the good times but still being sad about life itself, and then she killed herself, that elderly couple was pretty fucked though, no ideas about that.

In the end, the weird blue light stops, and some chick says :'It was all an illusion.' or something. So maybe that's Lynch's way of saying nothing is real in this world anymore, we just make it how we want it to be in our dreams and wishes.

There are different ideas about what its about, but yea the most common thing is that it's a dream, or her sub-consciously trying to live out the life she wishes she had (being a great actress, getting the girl) and then finally either waking up from the dream or realizing that her life is indeed a mess. As for the old people, I think that's simply a vision of her past haunting her, maybe her parents or something that just finally push her over the edge.
