What do you guys think? Should non natural born citizens be able to run for president or not? Should we change the constitution?

Well I'm all for some people who arn't "career politicians" to have some role in politics. I mean honestly the whole concept of a career politican is flawed, they are always more concerned with securing their future in politics than helping society.

i guess it doesnt matter as long as hes someone you want for president but i definitly wouldnt want arnold as president, our country would look like an even bigger joke then we already do with bush in office

 
i do find a problem with non natural born citizens being presidents. i mean, would you elect a guy from syria, cuba, or the congo be your president. the whole point was to keep presidents from turning over control to their home country, or running 2 countries at once. i think allowing arnold to run opens doors that shouldnt be opened. while he wont hand our country over to austria, if we were to open it to him, 20 years down the raod, a cuban miliatary dictator could get into office.

I have an issue with the natural born thing. I thoguht being naturally born meant you were born from a womb, and unnaturally born meant being made in a petri dish. As far as I know, there are no petri babies yet.

For once, i have to agree with you J.D.May. If I read your post correctly, i pulled out of it that you think they want to change the constitution for one man. I certainly don't think that that would be a wise decision. For examle, lets say Austria decides to invade the U.S. (highly unlikely). Where would Arnold's loyalties lie? Also, this would set the precedent for more amendments to follow.

well, ive been here since i was 3 years old, im not a natural born citizen, but i have been raised as an American.

also, not many people would elect a cuban or syrian president in the first place, so they wouldnt have a chance to hand over control to their own country anyway.

 
why limit options? If the majority of the US wants to elect an immigrant, let them. It seems by not allowing teh amendment, the government is just saying that it doesn't trust the people of the US to vote white, southern presidents anymore.

I dont think that there is anything wrong with the way it is now. Why would you let someone who grew up somewehre else run your country? To me it seems that they would always have mixed priorities. And changing it for one man is just stupid.

i'm not saying we should change it for arnold to run, because that would be beyond stupid. But i dont think its fair that citizens who move to this country are denied rights just because they arent born here. Some of the people who move here were oppressed in the countries where they were born and risked their lives to come here. These people probably have more love for this country than many of us who were born here, as many of us who were born here take much of our freedoms for granted, and i dont think they should be denied the right to run for president if they really wanted to.

if a a cuban dictator somehow won the election and cuba invaded im sure they would have a hard time taking over the U.S because of its size, population and military strength. also any military actions have to be okayed by many other people other than the president. our cuban pres. couldnt just order american troops to withdraw if cuba was invading our country. its not how it works.
