Sonnets are pretty gay, there's a long history of homoerotic poetry, especially sonnets.
Just remember:
ABABCDCDEFEFGG for rhyme scheme.
and
4/4/2 for structure.
And don't get stuck with structure, the structures are there to work in a way you want them to, sonnets aren't exactly conducive to talking about Mary Jane, unless you personify her as a woman - they're generally about love. FIgure out how the structure works and then use it to write the sonnet. Read some shakespeare sonnets, or Astrophil and Stella, look at how the structure works. Maybe don't even write a sonnet, make up a structure that works best for your poem. Anyways, good luck.
