Non gay poetry?

Hey NS there some very original and clever people amid all of the 12 year old and i would really like to hear from some of them.

On to the point of this thread i am reading some six word memoirs and am curious what some of yours would be. Mine is "just waiting to get fucked up", its shows how young and reckless i am.

Also if anyone could put together a sonnet i am really stuggling with writing a sonnet about marijuana(speaking hypothetically obviously)
 
Its not really homework im just curious, like i said, what NS has to say about this. i appreciate the finer points of speaking and im not very good with poetry yet.
 
rappers dont write in ryhme scheme most of the time, and obviously this threadf isnt directed at assholes so why does your uncreative ass even need to post here?
 
and by the way 6 word memoirs are supposed to tell a story in 6 words

the famous one is "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."
 
poetry doesn't necessarily rhyme, and even so most rap does rhyme to some extent, the rhyming schemes are just different than that of a sonnet. I'd look at rap if you want some words to experiment with in terms of rhyming. Hate to break it to you but rappers are arguably some of the best poets out there. A lot of them use tons of swears and shit but it's still poetry. The flow of rap is similar to that of poetry, and rap, similar to poetry, can hold so much meaning. Look up Grieves, listen to some of his songs, then listen again and focus on word choice, rhyming schemes and metaphorical meanings. Stuff like that is incredibly difficult to write, and every word is carefully chosen to add to the feel of the song. This is also true in poetry.

I may have seemed like a dick before, but trust me i was serious that rap contains many elements of poetry that are absolutely necessary in writing a good sonnet, poem or song for that matter.

pretty interesting 6 word memoir would be "Lost dog, please keep if found."
 
you get 6 word to describe your whole life and you used "to" and "get" for 2 of them? and it makes you sound like a total asshole.

There are so many other good poets out there, to request "non gay" poetry is quite ignorant of you. Poetry is not as inaccessible as people make it to be. Go to a library, do a google search on "contemporary poets" etc. etc. open your eyes and you will see.

Finally, sonnets are fucking hard. Why are you trying to write one? Do you simply have to write a formal poem, because if thats the case there are so many other forms that are way easier and more fun.

The ignorance of my statementis regretable and i am trying to write a sonnet because they are hard and i appreciate a challenge.i will post it when i finally get it. i will also look at the writer you suggested. JD you are the worst fucking mod this place has.
 
Because it's the internet. Post dumb thread, people point out that thread is dumb. Usually in as derogatory a manner as possible. It's a deterrence measure.

so deep because there are so many possibilities. Leaves your mind wandering and wanting more. Yet the answer must be pondered upon and maybe one day you will find the meaning of my memoir, and realize were I wanted to fuck you.
 
So you're writing a sonnet not for homework, but because you enjoy the challenge, but then you want somebody else to write it for you because you can't? This makes no sense.

As to the other pat of the topic, the best six-word memoir is "I'm so meta, even this acronym."

song is about some pretty heavy stuff and i almost wouldn't be surprised if this gets removed but it gets the point across with some dirty play on words and imagery.

read some chaucer, that way you can listen to old men talk about under 18 year old girls and their physical attributes likened to foods to be consumed and old women talking about their vaginas' like its a monkey wrench.
 
I have read Robert Frost, which I like. I also like John Whittier. Hell, Lewis Carrol is one of my favorite authors of all time. Just because I respect certain poets doesn't mean I won't acknowledge that poetry is possibly the fruitiest hobby a person can have.
 
No, not really. Music is what plays in the background while the singers/rappers provide lyrics. Music and lyrics are completely separate things that are associated with one another to the point of people thinking they're the same thing.

You wouldn't call instrumental music poetry, and likewise, you wouldn't call spoken poetry music.

Led Zeppelin plays music, Robert Plant sings music, and within that singing are lyrics, which are not music independently.
