No Teasers in the Ski Gabber

So apparently, NS has a rule that nobody is allowed to post a thread announcing the release of a trailer..

I've posted 3 threads simply stating that RoundtopRiders.com has released a trailer for the DVD and posted a link to the webpage..

Maybe i'm missing something, but i think that 95% of the NS members LOVE to watch trailers and videos. It's probably one of their favorite parts of the site. So, what i dont understand is, why would NS restrict the posting of INFORMATIVE information in the SKI gabber regarding the release of a new teaser. And it's not like its newskoolskiproductioncompany or some random ass group of kids.. RoundtopRiders has posted over 20 edits on NS this season and has gathered quite a following. It's obsurd to think that nobody would be interested in seeing the trailer.

They say that the post was "Cluttering Up the ski gabber"... So, I have to ask the question, If simple threads annoucing trailers are cluttering up the ski gabber, then what would you call the threads asking how to build a good backyard kicker?

there was also way more than 5 posts about the level 1 trailer, and they're still kickin around.
 
Oh, I didnt say this but they kept deleting my theads... thats why i posted 3 and they kept getting deleted...
 
Exactly, I understand it's Level 1 and all, but they definitely had like the top 10 posts in the ski gabber for 3-4 days. And each post was basically the same as the other ones too.

Here's the way I look at it, if people post links to their crappy trailers and stuff, they are going to drop off the first page in a day or so. It's just like all the other worthless posts. If something is a hot topic and of interest to everybody it will stay on the first page for awhile. I don't think the search to "delete clutter" should be focused on trailers. If it's one of the most popular things on NS, i wouldnt call it "clutter". I really just don't understand the logic at all.
 
There is a "Trailer Page". There is an image on the main page which has a list of the trailers but all of the links are mixed up and the page is pretty much in disarray.

It's also part of the banner with a Mammoth add, so the link only shows up every other (or less) times you refresh the main page.

So, this is there but it leaves no room for comments, and its not maintained very frequently.

There is currently a thread that has been made sticky (as of today) which hosts the "Big Company Trailers". But, it leaves room to post my trailer only as post and not its own thread with comments and stuff...
 
what's the difference between someone else posting the teaser to a well known company and someone posting the teaser for a smaller company, even if that person made the trailer?

i don't see how there can be a sticky containing all the BIG NAME trailers, yet if you make a post about a little movie that some kids decided to make about a month or two ago, it gets deleted in less than 10 minutes.
 
if you work for the company then it's self-advertising...

if you don't its not

That was not the reason that I was given by any of the Mods who deleted my theads.

I've heard that reason used before when people are advertising hat companies and that sort of thing, but I havent heard it brought up with movie trailers before
 
I've had people completely un-affiliated with teh site post a thread about the trailer and it was promptly deleted (

i ran into the same problem... dropped the teaser, and it was deleted.... i was PMed to contact CKO but no response.... This time i year its teaser time. its time to get a taste at whats been going on in the ski industry, whether its a kid with a backyard rail to seeing what the pros are doing. What else is supposed to be discused since the season is over?
 
we should delete the "big movie teasers" its only fair. if roundtopriders can't have a thread, neither should they
 
What the hell. Since when can't you drop a teaser in the ski gabber??? All last week there were level 1 threads everywhere. Is it because other people made the threads and level 1 wasn't involved. Is this why level 1 asked people to make threads on how to find the trailer, rather then drop it themselves? And to cowboy, what mod deleted the threads on your teaser???
 
Especially seems it to be mostly seasonal? Maybe it just me noticing, but it seems that everyone has time to compile thier footage.

Teasers should be allowed to be posted...on just about any other site they are, so that would be a step towards NS getting too "big" for little companies, which I would hate to see.
 
Look, it's really simple. Everyone and their mom posting "LOOK I MADE A TEASER" in ski gabber is really fucking irritating to clean up, and even worse, you have 10 dupe threads out there that say "PBP TRAILOR POSTED LOL"... so rather than bothering to look around for all the duplicates and keep only one, they'll just all go. And until the teaser page is updated, just post all your teasers in the stickied thread at the top of Ski Gabber. It's less of a bitch for us to deal with, and you get to post up your shit.

There was a thread made like a month ago that said, in not so many words "Send your teasers to one of the admins, don't post it here, and we'll put up a page for it". So technically there aren't supposed to be any teaser threads at all. But since that page hasn't been updated or maintenanced in a while (some weird links), there is the big movie teaser thread with all of them.

Now quitcher bitchin'. I notice Cowboy posted his teaser in the stickied thread. Now everyone can watch it. What's the problem?
 
And the only level 1 threads that are still there are the ones DISCUSSING the trailer (ie, what did you think about Stefan Thomas' first hit there at the end) of which I think there's one, maybe 2, and the one telling people how to get to it, which is a special case for L1P because they decided to make it a fucking puzzle for some reason.
 
Why would anyone want to drop their trailer on the 2nd page of some thread? Thats the stupidest thing I've heard. It's the time of the year where trailers are coming out, I'd rather see some new trailers then 4 pages of "lets bash kohls skiing" or 2 pages of "this is why Rage sucks".
 
So basically, your problem with the system is that it's not a sufficiently effective form of advertising?
 
well hmm, there was one thread about the JEA trailer, from a few months ago, not a single one was posted about that. it was bumped today by a random kid and was deleted within 15 minutes. why? according to all the reasons you've said there wasn't a problem with it at all.
 
There wasn't a rule at that point. Again, feel free to post ANY trailer links in the big thread. I mean we can't delete 2/3 of them and leave others. We have to at least make an effort to be consistent?
 
yes and no... It seems that for a skiing related website that there is a ton of negative stuff posted, barely related to skiing that is allowed to go on and on and not deleted. (it's been better as of late)

Allowing Trailer/teaser threads about amatuer videos with links seems a purely positive core skiing thing that NS could offer these members and those are deleted.

Face it.. none of these amatuer groups are going to make any real money. If they do get a start here by announcing a teaser video..... Don't you think that those future filmers/editors will remember where they got started as a positive?

Sorry JD i was under the impression that they were being deleted because they were "Cluttering Up the ski gabber", I didn't know that it was because of the whole advertising deal. Ryno seemed to say it was from having too many threads on one subject, which i guess is why you guys decided to delete all the threads that drop links, yet keep the ones where people talk about the trailer?!?! Didn't know that the new trailers were the reasons the forums were cluttered, and not all the other useless shit that gets posted in there. Sorry for the confusion. It makes much more sense to me now.
 
I'm a little confused about why it's the Mods job to 'clean up clutter' in the Ski Gabber. In my opinion clutter will clean up itself. There's so much activity on these forums that things can be paged in an hour or two. Duplicate threads and threads that are useless to just about everyone WILL NOT stay on the frontpage. I don't know why you guys feel its your responsibilty to choose what is posted and what isnt, especially when it's perfectly relevant. Hell, more relavant than 75% of the other stuff on the 1st page.
 
How long have you guys BEEN here? Clutter doesn't clean itself up! It doesn't just disappear off the front page, or if it does, it takes longer than a day... And there were several reasons for this policy. Now, okay, there's a point to be made in saying that it's a reasonable core skiing related thing whereas a lot of crap gets posted in SG. But trust me, it's been getting a lot stricter of late as to what is going and what is staying, and people have remarked upon some improvement in the quality of the boards in general. This all comes at the expense of "free speech" or whatever, though, so someone ELSE complains. It's pretty much a no-win thing for us until the membership wakes up and realizes they have no grounds for complaint about... well... ANY action on behalf of people running the site, because being able to post about whatever you want on here isn't some God-given right as so many of you seem to think it is.

The admins decided they didn't want abunch of teaser threads in Ski Gabber. They own the site, they can set whatever policies they want. You don't pay money to post here. Until those policies change they'll be enforced. Simple? Thought so!

Let me spell this out for you.

Red guys want no teaser threads. It is their site. Therefore, no teaser threads! If you don't like it, go post somewhere else.

In fact, I think that's going to be the new motto for mods and admins here... all you kids do is whine like you have some sort of entitlement here. Well, if you don't like it, go away.

And I was referring to the state of the forums in general, not the specific deletion of threads. But whatever. Yes, they're easily accessible, all in one thread. If that isn't good enough for you... Go post somewhere else!
 
I think that most people on this site love watching teasers and edits and as long as the people aren't SELLING thier movies via ski gabber and just telling people about thier new teaser it should be cool
 
i'm rather enlightened by finding out whether or not kohl schoening can ski outside the park or not too!!!!
 
What if teaser threads are made in Media and Arts? Seems like a perfectly legit place to post them does it not? We gotta get the other forums active instead of just Ski Gabber and Non Ski Gabber.
 
jason, the newest trend is making posts about how other people are postwhores. so quit with the trailers and get on that!!!!

At any rate, the point of this thread is not to discuss whether or not there is a big clutter problem in the Ski Gabber, but whether or not a trailer to a legit video is considered clutter. Especially a thread that will quickly gain replies.. The first hour my thread was up we were only a few posts from the second page. Clearly there was a ton of interest.
 
clutter= many threads on same topic.... ur topic... a teaser.... if im not mistaken there is a stickie for teasers to go in.... hence, u are adding to the cluttler, and a throwing a fit to the mods. which do a damn good job of putting up w/ our crap. and as they have said, the boys in red don't want teaser threads, and they have obv made a exception to heath's. so comply with them, possibly even help them out, and post it in the established thread. its not rocket science, just commen sense, and deciencey
