No Switch stance in Skiing

Skiers dont have a stance,. there fore we can't ride switch... there is no goofy or natural stance in skiing only in surfing,skatting and snowboarding.. please stop calling skiing backwards switch .. its embarresing to skiing, one of my pro skater friends Chad Fernandez asked me how the fuck is there a switch stance in skiing... that shits gay and it takes away from our sport..only in a small way but it still does.... its fakie.. in bmx going backwards is fakie, in skiing going backwards is fakie... end of story..
 
Honestly, who gives a flying fuck.

Switch has become synonymous for skiing backwards. Nearly all skiers who ride park can identify with this term instantly.

It doesn't have the connotation of "skier skiing with unnatural foot first" like it would in snowboarding, but rather the aforementioned.

There are so many weird terms in skiing, so if we get all literal, it just gets all watered down.
 
skiing backwards should be called fakie, switch for a skier is a rotation in their unnatural way. cab is a fakie switch spin (takeoff backwards and rotate your unnatural way). But like said, Who gives a shit what people call it. Most people say switch and most understand that as taking off backwards. Who cares.
 
Fakie is also a skate term. So if we started calling backwards fakie then our spins would be Cabs. So "Fakie 180's" would be called Half Cabs. It really doesn't make sense to call it fakie. Since we have no Regular or Goofy stance there is no correct term. I do agree Switch and Fakie do not make totally sense but really what else is there to call it other then backwards. Nobody is ever going to be happy with what its called so call it what you want.

switch has no connection to direction of spin

the way i look at it, technically you can define switch as riding with the opposite (or unnatural) foot forwards. That can be broadened to riding in the direction that is not natural. In skiing, forwards is natural, thus, backwards is switch.
 
switch sounds cooler, and has come to obviously be known as skiing backwards. Arguing over terminology is pointless, especially in something like skiing. Don't be a deuchebag, call it what you want and do what you want. And who cares what skaters say, according to their definition it is inncorrect, but we have a different definition.
 
what if my pro-sailor friend Tad Swarthmore told us not to say jibbing. what if he told us to call it tacking instead? would you listen to him? or are skateboarding terms different than sailing terms?

switch is a borowed term bought into skiing from another sport ie.surfing skatting, snowboarding depicting riding in the opposite direction ones usual stance ie Goofy or regular

jibbing.. is also a another borowed word from another sport which is actually normaly used in the right way..

All im simply saying is that if we borrow names from other sports

they should be used in the right context .. it would be liek calling a tail grab a nose grab...

ahh but there is a stance, our normal stance is standing forward with our toes down the hill, switch would be the opposite of this and our toes facing up the hill, OMG THATS BACKWARDS so yeah your arguement makes no sense

Nice name drop kid. Please tell me how it takes away from skiing? Oh wait, 90% of people on skis have never heard the word "switch" referenced in skiing. To say it's taking away from skiing is rediculous. Believe me, no one really cares.

Its switch, with every sport we can call it what we want. You can use what ever word you want, just you make the meaning be what you want it to be. I mean really we could use (just to make up a word) "Tild" and have that mean "skiing backward", so in skiing "going down the hill with your back facing toward the bottom of the hill" is called SWITCH , we are switching the direction in which are body is facing. Also you don't hear any skiing announcers saying "That was a perfect fakie 1080 Simon Dumont did off the money-booter." Its SWITCH now and its going to stay SWITCH
 
dude of all the things to get worked up about in skiing, i can think of few things as trivial as this. i suggest you go skiing asap. my guess is that when you land your first sw10, its unlikely you'll be thinking "damn, that should be referred to as a fakie 10 not a switch 10"...
 
so surfers switch their feet from left foot forward to right foot forward, so they SWITCH their feet

we ride with our feet facing forward, then we turn them around backwards, we switch them to make them go backwards! oh my god, we SWITCH our feet around to make them go backwards!

if anything doesn't make sense it's cab, you just sound like a fool
 
dude fuck off, this is not science, its a culture and sport with its own names for shit and whatnot. its switch. just because it is. its like saying that wasnt a truck driver cuz u werent reallly driving a truck, you were just grabbing your skis it should be called a double ski grab above boots.

i agree with him fakie is the correct term, i always use fakie and people still understand me and i still understand people who say switch. so its all good.
 
what the hell are u talking about theres no stance? Id call standing on a pair of skis a stance. Switch is the definite term of skiing backwards. Thats not gonna change.
