No Style? Bullshit!

As far as style goes, there are more or less two parts:

technical style: control, trickbook, smoothness

this is very easy to identify and very hard to argue

uniqueness: the quirks that make one's style unique and fun to watch.

very subjective to the person. this will forever be disputed.

For instance, I like brown's style because its tech and very smooth, but i am not as big on goeppers because tech wise he can be a little rough (landings), and is a little too stiff for me.

bringing uniqueness into the equation, I love delorme, but i am not at all a fan of hornbeck. here, its to each his own.

People can debate style, but recently it has gotten a bit ridiculous on here. respect that other people like different styles than you and live with it.

I think you missed my point entirely.
I was offering a universal definition of the word "Style". Of course style is completely subjective, you cannot define style for someone else. Everyone's definition is completely different.
Have you ever thought that some people (especially the germans for example) actually pride and are emotionally drawn to precision and consistency? They may cringe when watching the particular and wild ski movements that dale talkington does regardless of the "control", perhaps it is the way he gradually arches his back whenever he rides away, or the hand positions.
What I was trying to say is that the overall definition of "style" is the riding manner that is most praised and valued by the whole population of skiers. That way, the most popular skiing method becomes synonymous with the word "style".
As for my preference of style, I completely disagree with you. Out of all those people you mentioned, Dale was the only one who truly has a unique style in my mind. All the others too closely resemble other riders, so I don't really think they have style. Thats another problem, generally speaking, the more skiing you watch the more specific your definition of style will become.

I don't see how people can argue this...

If you think someone has bad style, that's your opinion of their STYLE...they clearly have it, because you judge it. Yes some style's are more accepted, but it's all style no matter what you think of it. There is no 'bad', just what YOU don't like

thank you, finally someone made this thread. fucking over these people saying no style etc etc, his "style" IS A STYLE.

stop hating not everyone likes that one style that you have and just because you do it one way doesnt mean everyone else should.

I agree with you, but in your opinion someones style could be "bad". They still have a style you just dont like it. However you can't say somebody has "no" style because they obviously do.

style is something that is developed , if you put all you effort into trying to look cool, your a classic ns kid

work on technique and style will come

I highly doubt you'll get an objective response from someone who has pictures with 8XL outerwear on (however big it is).

The main point here is that style is subjective and saying someone has NO style is grammatically incorrect. Disliking their style or saying they have "BAD" style is all subjective and could be argued for years, or in this case during the summer months.

Some people have it and some don't. It's like dancing, everyone can do it, but some people look really cool doing it, and some people should just stop. i'm sure they have fun doing it, but it's not fun to watch.

dude you're worst than the kids who says that goepper or brown has no style. just stop. for Nser, please stfu

Changes in language are only recognized if they take on a new distinct meaning. To claim that style is any one thing, in terms of defining a particular type of skier defeats the purpose of the word. Style should never be used alone to describe a skier. In order to accurately use this noun to describe something you must couple it with an appropriate adjective. For example, Tom Wallisch has a fluent and graceful style, where Bobby Brown has a technical and tight style.

This thread addresses something that has been bugging me for a long time. Very well done jake.
