i just finished watching it yet again and went through all the same shit i did the first time i saw it.

what a masterpiece of debilitation and descension. such unbelievable editing and cinematography. Darren Aronofsky (director), requiem isn't a 'drug movie,' its about addiction, drugs are simply the vehicle. unlike trainspotting which spends far more time developing character relationships, requiem is focused solely on the experience - the invasion of narcotics on the human senses and the inevitable conquest of addiction. requiem forces you to step into the characters shoes and triple-knot the shit outta their laces and it doesn't candycoat by delivering illusioned happy endings - there is no 'choose life' speech like there is in trainspotting. sorry to rant, but this movie is amazing, everyone with a tenth of a brain or a hint of human emotion should see it.

oh and jennifer connelly is spoken for - i'm wifin' her.

agreed, that movie is fucking genious. not to enjoy, because i didn't enjoy it at all, it was a 'feel good' type of movie, but it's something everyone should see, and art wise, it was brilliant. i think ReggaeConcept feels the same way. he turned me on to the movie.

first time i saw requiem i thought i was scarred for life. but then i saw it again a year later and its definitely a weird movie...but good...ish

personally i thought trainspotting was a better movie than requiem

The movie Pi sucked, maybe if the guy was a zombie I would've been interested. It just dragged on too much. Requiem is a good movie though. Thanks for analizing it electriccowboy, or whatever your name is.

ok this is what i got out of the movie, it starts off with them having a good time on drugs but slowly things go to shit. the movie showed how drugs are bad for you. did any one eles see that in the movie?

^You should. It is the single best movie of the 90s, and everyone i know that has seen it has been at least moved by it. It's nearly traumatic, and if you can see past the drugs and analyze what Aronofsky and Selby Jr. are trying to portray it's even better still.

Has anyone else read the book? It's equally as powerful.

^I agree with alpinecowboy; ^^ is an idiot. I doubt you've seen or, or if you have, don't get the sybolism and just the raw intensity of the film. Let me guess, Zoolander is one of those movies equally as good as Requiem, and Meet the Parents was even better!

Go watch it again and try to pull your head out of your ass.

yes requiem is amazing well all know that but one thing that people don't usually discuss about it is the soundtrack, I think it's amazing.

what i liked most about requiem was at the end, u keep on talking about who has it worse, and what mite happen to them in the future.

Personally, i think that the girlfriend had it the worse, she is still addicted, and will do anything to cure her fix. Even the black guy got it pretty bad, he has the mental torture from memories of his mom.

YESS!! omigosh I watched it with my friend for the first time and that's alll we talked about was the music (after I got over the whole naked scene and the fact that its all like hardcore drug use), so good.

i agree with petek,the lil girl is gonna have a really tough time with her life,she's an addict,and would do anything to get some heroine..even having anal sex with a metal; bar or something like that...such a harsh scene!

And when they show the guy with his arm cut at the end of the movie...The other one who is goona be really fucked is Momma,esquizo-paranoid because of taking to much amphetamines(sp?)or shit like that...she ends up so bad i just wanted to cry.

I apologize for my incorrect statement: Requiem was released in 2000 so it cannot be one of the best movies of the 90s.

I do agree that in the movie Marion has it the worst, but the saddest part is when Harry is talking to the nurse in the hospital bed about Marion.

yeah trainspotting's good, but i think requeium(sp) is better. it gets to you alot but it was so good. has anyone seen Spun? or spin, something like that. that movie sucked!

oh the score is incredible. the interesting thing about it is that its pretty much constant throughout the movie. it really doesn't stop very often, with the exception for things like emphasized dialog. i really like it because it consistently maintains the abstrated atmosphere (something necessary for drug use).

yeah its one of my top movies to watch, its accually a movie you can analize and understand more, unlike most movies that are produced these days. its a really strong emotion movie and and director is brilliant. After watching this movie i have come to a few conlcusions about my frineds. i have 2 types of friends. those that look at the movie as a brilliant work of art (which is the way it was ment to be seen), there there are your stupid friends who cant see past the drugs.

spun is a good movie.... but it is a DRUG movie... where requiem has meaning and ideaolagies, (sp?) spun is about drugs... straight up. i think that he drew alot of inspiration from the requiem cat as well

I think its been said befor but the movies not ONLY about drugs. but its about addiction in general.

There's also one scene that blew me away, its when the old woman is up on speed and shes cleaning the house top to bottom, But its all sped up and if you watch it a few times you notice how the light change's. Go into the extras on the DVD and also watch the documentry on Hubert Selby. That guy is interesting.

Has anyone read any of his other books???

definately a fucked up film! i sat there after watching it for about 5 minutes while the film registered in my brain.

yeah that time lapse shot was incredible, it took a lot of work to get that one together. if you notice yes the sun is setting (and this is mentioned in the dvd extras) at one point she turns the lights on in the apartment because its getting dark - this was done on a set not with real daylight. there are a lot of subtleties in that shot. its a 45 minute take, non stop and it ends up being like a 25 second sequence. its a poignant entrance into the mothers side of the story.

Has anyone else noticed though, that no one ever actually discusses the title? Requeim for a Dream. As in, a tribute to the death of a dream. I've seen the movie many, many times and ive discussed it with many people, and this so something i notice is constant with almost everyone.

As for the kid who has divided his friends up, i agree: Some get it and love to talk about it, and others just arent deep enough to analyze what it really means.
