Like it or not, but the image projected by pro skiers is what attracts new people to the sport, which in turn attracts revenue, more publicity, and benefits ski companies. The fact is, the mainstream think blading is whack compared to skateboarding, and they already liken skiers to bladers (as opposed to snowborders), having more people drop poles is only going to accentuate that.
Do I care about my image (or your image) when I ski? No. I do care about the growth of our sport, and the pragmatist in me says that echoing rollerblading is going to be detrimental to that growth. I'm fucking sick of only having one newshcool ski magazine, a handful of core companies, and no mainstream exposure. I don't want things to get worse. If this no poles trend seriously catches on I believe the current situation will only get worse.
Quite apart from this, the fact remains that if you actually ski outside the park dropping your poles is pretty stupid. But that's another point alltogether.
