No poles feels so flowwwy and fun. I feel much more connected to my skis and it seems like it makes me more familiar with the ski and the flex points. All around a great time and your'e like a T-Rex hah
i think skiing without poles makes you a better skier...also waaaay safer and more practical for park rats who need their hands free for hand drags/grabs and don't use them for turning anyway. the whole argument about style and t walls is just retarded though. only time that i really feel like i need poles is on steeps, bumps, and in the lift line....but it is super fun to ski bumps without em...makes you focus a ton on balance and good lower body mechanics.
No poles getting more and more accepted since a lot of the pros do no poles!
for one PK Hunder never own a pair of poles his entire life, don't he hvae a superb style?
He just borrow poles when filming og contest...
Also thoose mad g stylin B&B guys almost never uses poles!
I peronally also never use poles when just shredding! because it's mor fun to grab without and your thubs is getting so madly fucked sometimes when you fall with poles!!
your theory is kind of like learning how to drive. When i was learning how to drive i removed the steering wheel, which made it harder, then later I put the steering wheel back on which made it easier and made me a better driver.
IF YOU CANT SKI PARK COMFORTABLY WITH POLES, YOU SUCK. SACK UP, LEARN HOW TO RIDE PARK, AND STOP MAKING YOURSELF LOOK BAD...YOU MAY THINK IT LOOKS BETTER BECAUSE YOUR A FLAIL, IT DOESNT. YOU STILL FLAIL. LEARN TO NOT FLAIL, IT WILL IMPROVE YOUR SKIING.
honestly cant believe how many people on here think riding without poles on a regular basis is legit...
to each their own... i have been shreddin with bdog and edollo when they were no pole-in and they were ooooozing with style, and when they ride with poles, they are ooooozing with style. now, i am on the road with candide, the most oldschool, longest pole rider ever, and i am reminding him everyday... POLES ARE FOR STRIPPERS!!! who the fuck cares as long as you are having fun... that is what it is all about...
every one in a while I'll throw my poles in a tree and go arc some GS turns on fresh groomers and drag my fingers and just do hand drags everywhere, but then I get my poles and resume normal skiing.
skiing really fast (50+mph) without poles is definitely more fun than park without poles.
But how do you do your perfect 4 point landing without poles? Sheesh! Kids these days.
But seriously, this debate could go on forever. And it's so easy to pick out who is an instructor in this thread - or those who have an interest in skiing technically correct. As to my opinion on the debate: to each his own when in the park. There is no right answer, unless you're skiing out of the park without poles and then I might scowl at you. When you're talking about style, everyone has their own opinion. When you're talking about technique, it's a whole other story, which I think has been outlined already by our fellow CSIA/PSIA/technical folks.
No poles is sick. I didnt use poles at the start of the season, then used poles mid season, now Im not using poles for the rest of the season. Something about having my hands free feels pretty cool
Probably a lot of people. I don't actually care what other people do though, unless they are my students, and even then it really doesn't matter. I just can't help making a face sometimes, but I promise it won't hurt anyone It also doesn't make me think less of the person's skiing abilities - I can see beyond the use of poles. My old-fogey brain just likes things old school sometimes.
no poles is gay. but srsly why do all these csia whores come onto NS and start ranting. If I wanted a forum/comunity to teach me how to ski id go to www.oldschoolers.com srsly? NS is new school gtfo with you old fashion non cool style and technicality. Spin to win, fuckit , huckit. srsly OP obviously wasn't even talking about big mountain so why u guys thread jack? go make your own thread about how people who use no poles cant ski big mountain. irrelevant. fool.
