No pole skier poll!! not cool

You couldn't be more wrong. Though I personally am not feeling the whole no poles thing, Andy Mahre displays great smooth style without poles. There is no "sloppy style" as you put it.

It's just personal preference. To think there's a right or wrong answer to this question is silly.

Andy rips...no questions about it at all...

But he knows how to ski and has a solid "core knowledge" of the sport. I have had the pleasure of watching Andy just skiing around Mammoth w/o poles and I think it looks like skiboarding. Just my opinion...I fear that kids will think that skiing w/o poles is the way to go and before they even learn how to ski properly, they will be flailing all over the place.

i obviously haven't skied much. and you must suck at skiing if you think poles are necessary. if you can't get down the mountain without poles... then... then.... i will rape your mother.

U dont need poles in the midwest. Its not like there is pow or big mnt. Craig kills it, i wouldnt talk shit about someone you dont know. La Familia bitches

^^

No need to post a resume but outside of my 26 straight ski seasons (averaging 100 a year, both parents were ski instructors)and 4-years Division I Ski racing, Bud Pro-Mogul Tour, Swatch Boardercross Tour, x-games skiercrosses 97,98,99, PSIA level III (skiing and boarding) i ski a little bit...just a little....

and it is not skiing without poles! It is skiblading!

I used to ski without poles - On Elan SCX skis, 153 cms long, custom 40mm risers and plastic planers on my hands to save my gloves from being torn apart from the snow...we skied like we were on race snowboards, high angles, hips to the snow euro-carves - Fun, but still like skiblading...

twin tipped skis...bigger sidecuts. shorter length. ALL COPIED FROM SNOWBOARDING. fucking TWIN TIPPED PARK SKIS. pow skis. baggy clothing. go back to tight clothing, 204 straight skis, then you will be a skier and not some snowboard copier. soft boots what?

i think it looks cooler without poles to be honest, i remember when i first saw mahre do it and was like whoa, never thought someone would do it, but i think its sick. Shows some individuality, and some people can pull it off, i might take a couple runs next year to see what its like, i bet it would feel more free and fun.

fark the haters, poles are for aethetics in the park anyway, you gunna pole plant to the box?!

1) twin tipped skis - 1970's Olin Mark IVs

2) Sidecuts - 1980s- Marc Girirdelli (bad spelling) won almost every world cup GS race on shaped skis

3) shorter length - short skis were all the rage in the 70s and 80s but the core skiers claimed that "short skis suck!!"

4) Pow skis - Been around for years, well before snowboarding became mainstream...only pussy's used em back in the day, it was only recently 1997 that fat skis became cool

Skiing has become energized by snowboarding and skateboarding...

I personally ski like a snowboarder, i think both sports are the same and I switch over atleast once a day depending on conditions....But when I hear skiers on this site claim to be "core" or what we need to do to strengthen skiing, I think back to our LONG history and changes and cycles and relealize that nothing has really changes since the 70s (when I was but a wee little sperm)

5) Tight Clothing - all you emo kiddies rock the tight jeans

6) Neon - WTF? I thought we killed all the neon trees in 1995

It shouldn't even be that big of a deal. I use poles and most of the time don't. I think that most skiers anyway rely on there poles for stability comfort and some type of bull shit control. like when people get goin to fast in the pow they drag there poles. i used to do this shit all the time. but if you don't use them for a while, i think ull become a better skier.. becasue ull be more aware..

also to anyone that gets violently rude about not using poles i truthfully hope your ski pole hits you in the mouth or stabs you or something retarted like that when you fall..

but its like do you really need them too? i think they are just for looks.. maybe if you pole plant.. but i think pole plants are wack.. and no poles in the pow is fun.

i dont think all you idiots should get so aggresive over something that is not that big of a deal. no matter how much shit everyone talks.. im sure the people that dont use poles will continue to not use poles so i would just stop writing shit becasue nothing will happen..

the riders that choose to not use them.. do it becasue they do what they like so just respect them for what they do its not like were out there hurting anyone or telling people to not use poles.

so all of you stupid ignorant fucks should just chill out and worry about bigger issues.

*west coast*

ahahah andy has a point. i think it doesnt really matter if you use poles or not its all good either way, do what you want... i think both r fine

do you even ski newschool? why are you here? craig probably skis better without poles than you do with. you have to learn how to make your own fun in the midwest so why bitch at him for skiing without poles instead of not skiing at all? if no-polers were trying to copy snowboarding then they would snowboard!

dude to progress would be to go forward, if u wanna talk about the 70's thatd be goin backwards and not forwards. i mean i ski with poles sometimes and someteims i dont, and when kids to do other shit i dont see much i dont give them shit, it dont matter, cuz skiings and individual sport so if a single person is doing something thats different from another skier why should he get hated on......

poles serve no purpose in "freestyle" skiing. it's like foreskin or tonsils. you can have them but they don't really serve a purpose. personally i use poles to fight off out of control asian tourists

Do as you please, but everyone is still entitled to their own opinion. Stop whining that people don't like the "No poles" movement.

Personally I hope it never catches on.

i didnt use poles when i was learning to ski at the age of like 4. it just feels stupid to not have them, but i guess thats cuz i dont spend 24/7 in the park and know how to make turns

yea seriously andy... ive been meaning to talk to you about that for a while now.. your gonna have to learn to turn someday, you can only get by on your looks as a pro for so long... pretty soon your gonna have to get back to the basics

ok ok thats what i expected from a nonturning skier like yourself...

my suggestion, hit up down town yakima, maybe the mall, and tell all the punker girls outside zumiez that you can hook em up with electric wristbands, becuase of your stubborn nonturning attitude you will never amount to anything

actually I'm pretty sure I saw andy turn one time. but it might have just been an accident.

there was a kid at the summit jam killing it with no poles, i like things just as much with or without, i'm just really bad without poles
