No pipe.

Hi,

Recently I have really gotten into free skiing but I noticed none of my local resorts have one, so what should I do? I live in Colorado.

Wait like they don't have a park? Or a half pipe. Plus you life in colorado were free style skiing is huge you can just make weekend trips to like breck or something.

I'm confused, there's a ton of good pipes in Colorado, breck, vail, copper, steamboat all have sweet pipes. Other resorts have mini pipes. If you're into Rodin halfpipe you can find one

Build one

Not joking its not hard to build a sloppy 4 ft pipe that can be a lot of fun.

Also be proactive. Talk to your local resorts about getting one, get others skiers to back you. Sitting back and complaining about how your resort doesn't have a pipe doesn't do a whole lot of good.

They cost a shit load to build / maintain. If I ran a resort, unless I was at a major freeskiing/snowboarding mecca ex breck, mt snow, copper, etc....I would have zero interest in building it if it cut into the budget that much.

In fact thats probably why most small resorts have them...bigger ones can absorb that cost into the financials..especially at large corporate resorts like vail, intrawest, etc

I don't mean build one at a resort, I meant just wherever you have the space to with a couple of friends.

It's a pain in the ass for resorts, especially Midwest and east coast. People don't understand the amount of snow and work it takes to build a full one. My mountain had one a few years back. Took most of the portable snow making infrastructure to build it.

Pipes will be a thing of the past in another few years. They almost already are. Cost of building a pipe is over a million dollars with no return on investment. It's a waste of money

We usually build a stunt ditch for closing weekends, but we're throwing around the idea to get it in earlier for next season.
