International X Games events in Tignes, France; Foz do Iguacu, Brazil; Munich and Barcelona will not continue in 2014, ESPN announced Thursday.

"We are proud to have run world-class competitions for both the athletes and spectators; however the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path," ESPN said in a statement.

The network said domestic X Games events in Aspen, Colo., and Austin, Texas, will be held in 2014, as scheduled.

The X Games is the longest-running event in action sports, featuring competitions in snowboarding, freeskiing and snowmobiling in the winter and skateboarding, BMX, motocross and rally car racing in the summer. The event has featured some of the most historic feats in action sports history, including the first double backflip on a dirt bike, landed by Travis Pastrana in 2006.

ESPN announced the expansion to six sites in April 2012. With the expansion came new events, including Mountain Bike Slopestyle, Women's Skateboard Park and Gymkhana GRID. The global tour also included a new emphasis on music and culture, with film screenings and concert headliners such as 50 Cent, Awolnation and Major Lazer.

The international events in 2013 provided some milestone performances. In Tignes, Iouri Podladtchikov landed the first-ever YOLO Flip in Snowboard SuperPipe. In Foz do Iguacu, Jake Brown landed the first 720 ollie in Skateboard Big Air, and in Barcelona, Alana Smith surpassed Shaun White to become the youngest X Games medalist ever with her second-place finish in the debut of Women's Skateboard Park.

In 2014, the 19th year of X Games, competitions will be held in Aspen from Jan. 23-26 and Austin from May 15-18.

Next year will be the first time Austin hosts a summer X Games, ending the event's 11-year tenure in Los Angeles.

Business is business, if something isnt profitable, then there is no reason to keep it. Thats economics.

To be completely honest, I could not be happier that the Xgames are returning to only 2 cities. Last year was a little ridiculous with the global spots. Now it will return to being ONE winter event and ONE summer event. Even though I'm not too big on competition skiing, I'm glad to see the mecca of contests returning to a once a year format.

Such a shame for euro shredders, means now they have way less of a chance to build up to X games Aspen.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING! i'm spending the whole season in val d'isere (links up to tinges) and i was soo pumped for the games. why couldnt they have just waited 1 god damn year!?!

I am not really mad. X Games was turning into a tour. X Games is supposed to be the biggest event in skiing(after the Olympics)

Now it'll be worth what it should. The entire competition had basically been deflated because it wasn't THE X-Games anymore. It was A X-Games.

Great, now Europe has nothing international, especially annoying as I was possibly going to it this year...

I think they added too many stops anyway, taking away from the grandeur of the competition, BUT really bummed about Euro X Tignes being dropped! That was a super fun contest to watch, and the athletes really liked the slope course every year. Too bad for Euro riders especially.

This is dissapointing news. They did go fairly all out with the stops. From what people are saying though it seems they didnt get the scheduling right for showing it, like repeat at 11pm? Its hardly prime time so i can see why an advertiser wouldnt pour money into it. As said before if its not economically viable then its understandable not to keep going.

This season is still gonna be great for comps, Dew Tour should be better this year, X games is always good, and Olympics will be very interesting.

It makes sense that they cancelled the Tignes x games.. I was there last year and do not see how they made any money at all.. Free to watch it all and not getting money from the accommodation or lift ticket sales. Pretty much only the food stands that they set up gained them some profit and the event sponsors.

I guess that means that Bucky Lasek will be the first and only person to get an Xgames "grand slam" sweep.
