No more camp without a passport

so a large percentage of NSers live in america and it seems a chunk go to camps and the main ones are either in whistler (canada) or on hood (USA)

so now with stricter laws in crossing the border, like you have to have a passport next year just to get into canada, i think, would that mean if i wanted to go to camp at whistler, i'd have to have a passport, which is relatively expensive, and buy my package, and spend more money than just going to hood.

tell me if i'm right about the passport thing, and what you think

Dude, you ALWAYS had to have a passport or US birth certificate to get into Canada. This is nothing new...

passports fuckin blow. They are really a rip off, and the government workers suck such sack. You pay like over 100 dollars and it takes them 3 months to make it? Fuck that. Also, my post office charged me 15 dollars for polaroids for that specific size they need. Load of shit if you ask me. I'm leaving in the middle of the september to go to south america and my passport is being processed now, those idiots better get it back in time since i have them 3+ months to do it

only if your over 18

but emo kid. shut the fuck up its like 80 bucks which in relation to going to camp is nothing.

not true. i went to Canada probably a dozen times before i was 18 and was asked for my birth certificate or passport each time.

like you said a good chunk of us go to camp meaning a good chunk of us are rich and can afford passprts

for and adult it is $97 so stop making it out to be like wicked expensive, its not that bad. and if you are under 16 like 1/2 of ns it is $82. and if you are over 16 it lasts 15 years,

and if you ever want to go to another country you are going to need to have it. and its not that you cant get into canada, you just cant get back from there! haha. and it is only if you are flying, you can still drive in and out without a passport as of right now. and anyways becuase they are so backed up right now as long as you have the paperwork saying that you have applied for one you can still go to canada. but if you are planning on going next year i would apply for one like now...they have something like a 6month back up

its weird that a lot of americans dont have a passport... in europe everyone has one. But ehh dude i mean u do wanna leave the country some times right? See the world and all??

they dont need it though they just need photo ID. alot of places ask for it because they are the most valid types of ID

Not true, well out of portland anyway. My parents and large quantities of others were denied access to go on their vacation to canada 2 weeks ago. My mom had recieved her passport in the mail, but pops had not, even though they were sent in together and the checks cashed together. They presented the receipt and birth certificate and license and such and were denied along with many many other people that day. To say the government is screwed up is a complete understatement. Any corporation being run like this wouldn't last a month. I don't know why the government gets away with it. but that is for another thread, another time....

you gotta get there, say a return trip is an average of like 400ish, depending on where u live and yeah, but just take the number 400. then the camp, say 2000. ur worried about paying less then 100 more so u can actually get there? it lasts for i tihnk 5 years wen ur under 18 or 21, then after that its 10 years. dont complain

yea that is def the way to go...i got mine done when i was in high school before i had aaa and i got it done at the post office...and i was sneezing...and they wouldnt let me redue it even tho it was digital....never get it done at the post office...they suck

I dont see the problem with getting a passport. Personally I think everyone should have one...It makes traveling much faster

try driving, they dont even look half the time. "Where you been?" "-Whistler" "how long?" a "-couple of weeks" "have fun?" "-yep" "sweet" and they let go through. I got through with just my drivers lisence in April since my passport expired. And you are seriusly a whining bitch if you think it is a wast of time to get a passport. they are international picture id, there is no reason not to have one.

its not exactly that hard to get a passport. and they last like 8 or 10 years so its a smart investment. just ask your parents to pay for it, im sure you are going to leave the US in the next ten years anyways...you should.

let's see - google search for "passport fees" found this gem:

"Age 16 and older: The passport application fee is $67. The execution fee is $30. The total is $97."

Not nearly $200. Sack up, get a passport and you're set for 10 years.

thanks to our rule by fear tactics we need passports to enter canada. this has been put into action in the last few years. If you have a dui or any other offense they will charge you at least $200 dollars to enter the country. I find it funny, they say you can't come in but if you pay a fee and you have an offense you are then allowed in. in short passports are not that pricey they last and its a good thing to have.

and in most cities you can get passport size pictures for cheaper than the $15 they charge you at the post office. Just go to a mall, a camera shop, bodega style sell anything store, or se common sense and use the interweb to find it. The process is less painful than its made out to be if you do some research .

HAHAHA this thread reminds me of the n00b checking my passport at customs to get into New Zealand...

- do you ski a lot?

- yes..

- where?

- switzerland, france, austria, italy, etc..

- i mean which resorts?

- that's a useless question.

- ok ok, then if you've skied in all these countries, why aren't there any stamps of them in your passport????

- eh. uhm. it's the european union, the borders are open.

- *embarrassed* ok you can go, welcome to NZ.

know what homes?

if you're too fucking cheap to buy a passport, i dun want you in my country you cheap sumbitch!!

not always in 98' 99'I lived in portland and use to drive to vancouver often and all that was needed was a valid drivers license or Id. It is a post 9/11 we are afraid tactic.

the states made it so that canadians needed passports to get into the U.S. beofre you could just use a birth certificate or dirvers license, anyways now Canada is goign to do the same for the states so you need a passport to get up here. Shits changing.

just cross the border by land, all you need is a birth certificate.

thats what i had to do to go to whistler, i just flew into seattle and rode a bus to vancouver

yeah the camp and the plane tickets are gonna cost so much more that a

passport is like nothing. Besides, they last forever and its not gonna

kill you to get a job

I'm pretty sure it was suggested, not required. For as long as I can remember you could get across the border with just your Drivers License.

go to cvs to get your pictures for your passport..normally like 7 bucks..go to the local passport place (library) its like 100 bucks make sure you get it super early so you get it in time..
