No jumps in the new Crystal park.....

It's Crystal Mountain, you expect far more than they will ever provide. It's not like they will even put up the features in their plans right now.

there is, and its actually fun to just build jumps within the boundarys, if you put it on a secluded run you can sesh it all day

If you've skied Xtal for very long at all, I can't see how you would expect their park to be remotely legit.

That place has been managed straight into the ground for the past decade.

...just like the fucking Mariners.

Yeah, I went there.

After Snoqualmie's lawsuit, I can see why Crystal would not want to have jumps in their park.

hahaha they definitely described the park as "jib oriented" and small...I wasn't expecting greatness. I could care less actually that place is so funnn anyways.

crystal gets so much hate. it is definately my favorite place in WA. it has been an all natural mountain for years, you cant expect them to magically turn into mammoth, even if they have alot of moneythey could lose it all in the same lawsuit snoqualmie had in jumps, im not sayin i support the all jib park im just saying crystals known for freeride and big mountain. not park

Sounds like one of my local mounatins, shitpress.

1 month before they open they tell all the passholders they will be having no park and offer no refunds

While the new park may not have any jumps, I'd say what they do have to work with will be pretty legit, well maintained etc. The guy who is park manager is a super good dude and knows what he is doing, and will work hard to make it the best it can be.

Crystal gets hate because it deserves hate. It's a horrible mountain, with a horrible layout, horrible customer service, even worse management, horrible location, horrible skiing (mostly because of the mass number of tourists who believe they're going to find something amazing when the snow report says ~2" NEW). Just my opinion...

The reason they're doing it makes sense, actually.

Boyne Resorts owns Crystal. Boyne Resorts owns Snoqualmie. Snoqualmie has more of an emphasis on park. Boyne fears that by adding a park at Crystal, they'll be cannibalizing sales at Snoqualmie. It's doesn't take a Business degree to figure out...

whatever. i will still only go there for big mtn comps pretty much. why pay money for huge crowds? place is resorted the fuck out. they are trying to create another whistler and unfortunately succeeding. sick terrain for sure but trying to beat every rich guy in seattle/tacoma and his brother to the stashes kind of sucks

The fact that they added a lift to Northway is the most heartbreaking change that they've made at Crystal since I started skiiing there, which was in '87. 15 minutes of hiking and you were pretty much always into a reliable stash, and on the extremely rare occasions when Northway proper was tapped out, a few more minutes worth of traversing put you into the untouched goods. Now if you're not there when they drop the gate on a weekend, the odds of you scoring first tracks are pretty much nil.

I'm pretty neutral on the addition of a park since I head to Crystal for the terrain, but adding a few jibs won't hurt. It'd be great if they added a high-quality park, but that just hasn't been part of their management plan. Given Kircher's hostility to the whole terrain park concept, I'm kind of amazed that they're even adding jibs.

I've had a chance to ski just about everywhere but Jackson, and of the places that I've manged to hit up, Crystal is second only to Whistler when it comes to terrain in my book. I'm sure I'm biased because I grew up skiing there, but if that's one of your local mountains you've got it pretty good IMO.

snoqualmie is primarily marketed towards recreational skiers, and that segment is going to keep coming back no matter what because of the short commute from seattle. The number of people who would start going to crystal over snoqualmie because of a high quality park is negligible, especially because any seattleite who is willing to drive the extra hour would go to stevens for park anyway.

You don't have much to complain about. 30 features sounds pretty damn nice. If it's their first year with a park they'll probably build jumps within the next year or two. Putting up a bunch of rails takes way less effort and snow than putting up a nice big jump line.

Yeah your situation could be a lot worse OP. Here in Thunder Bay, Ontario we once upon a time had like 4-5 ski resorts. Two of them were owned by one guy, one was not as good but was closer to town, the other was way better but farther away (by like 5 minutes,) So he closed the good hill to cut down costs.

so... like... this has been thoroughly discussed in the regionals. Not to mention, ever since Crystal announced they would have a park (now in the seemingly distant past), they mentioned it would not have jumps, so there is zero surprise here. Crystal is Crystal, then again, I don't ski there, so no complaints from me. More power to em.
