No Jumps at RCR hills

market

New member
Hey word on the street in Calgary and Banff is that no RCR resort is going to have jumps... so Lake louise, Nakiska, Fernie and Kimberly.... any one know anything bout this?

yeah that rumor is running here in quebec too (stoneham, mont-sainte-anne) I dunno if its true, but they just put a park pass for the features to be bigger..that be silly. I hope it isnt true

that will ruin my holiday to louise if true. louise always has such well manicured jumps, and usually a very high class pro line. absolutely devostating news. can we get some confirmation?

Lately I have been hearing alot of rumors about how RCR's mountains are

not having parks at all this year. Apparently it was due to a lawsuit

filed against lake louise, and 1 close call at kimberley (both

accidents were PURELY the riders fault, straightlining into a 15 foot

table, clearly marked "M"). Alledgedly, this is enough financial

turmoil to completly AXE the parks in lake louise, fernie, kimberley,

and nakiska.

louise is so sick though, its a great tragedy if theyre doing away with their jumps.  any news on the reason behind it?

For the last 2 years there have been rumors at the begining of each year that rcr is not going to have a park. or rcr isnt going to have jumps. even if they have gotten a little shitier at nakiska. louise always has a good park. They are just rumors.

we must all sign this petition. This means that the western guys and the eastern guys must be allied in the petition since it is the only possible way to make a change. Cause from now on there is not going to be anything that look like a jump even two following rollers. SO LET'S MAKE A CHANGE. For now, it is a permanent decision for the years to come.

make it a sticky post and sign.

If you have any wonder as to why this is true last spring a Seattle man was awarded $14 million (usd) in damages from the summit at snoqualmie by a Judge. The ruling was that snoqualmie shared partial responsibility in his accident due to neglect. A few years ago this guy went off of a jump way to fast on an icy day and cleared the jump by a long shot. He fell 30 ft onto his back and paralyzed himself from the waist or shoulders down (we know he can talk and type). He sued them saying that they neglected to keep the jumps safe. That they should be engineered so that you can not get seriously hurt. Now any one who has taken 9th grade physics knows that this is impossible. He argued that instead of being carefully designed and engineered, the jump was 'eyeballed.' The judge awarded him $14 million in damages saying that summit at snoqualmie was partially at fault (he originally sued for $32 million).

So you see resorts are scared shit less by this decision because no matter how big your company is $14 million is alot.

I would love to say "fuck rcr and everything it stands for," but i really cannot. I do NOT support this decision in the slightest, but it apprears that money hungry shmucks suing people over the stupidest things have once again ruined something for everyone. Fuck you you snobby fucking bastards. I hope that a trillion fireants climb up your legs and gnar inot your all overness, and you, being paralyzed will be able to do nothing but die a slow, horrible death.

at canada olympic park now you gotta watch a 10 minute video and have a certain pass to get into the park.

they dont really check that often but if you get hurt i guess it's not really the park's fault.

I would CERTAINLY rather do that than have jumps taken away completely. I live in kimberley. Although an amazing area to live, I am surrounded by fernie (rcr) louise (rcr) and nakiska (rcr). Whitewater doesnt build decent jumps and bigwhite and silverstar are a solid 5-6 hours away.

dont mean to whore, but I just sent an email to RCR resorts that went a little somthing like this.

"Hello!

My name is Rory, and I have been a season pass holder at Kimberley Alpine Resort for around 5 years, logging in 80+ days a season. In that time, I have come to immensly enjoy riding the terrain parks of RCR resorts, particularly the jumps. Lately however, I have overheard some stratling rumors flying around that Kimberley, along with all other RCR resorts have decided to discontinue the construction and maintenance of thier tabletops. I have some suspicion that it has something to do with past lawsuits filed against various ski hills regarding the design and danger of thier jump lines. Before jumping to conclusions, I felt fit to come directly to the source. Are the rumors I am hearing true?

I look forward to your reply"

Rory Greggain

dude you must go nearly everyday if you log 80 days and it opens in late december.

maybe thats why everybody at kimberley is so good. they mountain is like 3 minutes away from the farthest point in town

Here is the thread from last year. There is one from 05/06 to but i cant find it.

https://www.newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/205045/

I am guessing its all bullshit. I know louise has to have something set up for the comps they have.

here is part of the press release:

"RCR cares deeply about the well-being of all of its guests and takes responsibility for their care very seriously. "We are undertaking an industry-leading initiative," says Matt Mosteller, Senior Director of Business Development for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. "All man-made snow jumps will be eliminated from RCR terrain parks this season."

"We have found that one of the main issues that increase the likelihood of serious injury on our mountains is big air," says Mosteller. "When we are making decisions about safety at our resorts, the big jumps in the terrain parks always come into the equation. We decided to make a change."

that sucks, but hey, i'm in saskatchewan where jumps don't exist in the first place. when i hit up the west it certainly isn't for the parks.

does anybody know why lake louise took out the mini park they had near the mid moutain lodge?

they had it 2 years ago i think and now it's just a mogul field

well, I guess its official. Youd think they would be smart enough with all the buisness degrees they have to realize the danger of angry youth. I have a feeling the ski hill will be a tad more dangerous with jumps as big and burly as we can make them lying in an unmarked mogul feild as opposed to a well protected terrain park with jump indicators so blatant a blind man could see them. I propose mass jump building everywhere, along with making it rain on RCR's pitiful excuse for a buisness and never stop. Fuck RCR and fuck everything it stands for.

ok, heres the new idea: a mad bc booter sesh for the 7 days im in banff. anyone down let me know.

il be there from december 27 to jan 3

post script: im a mad digger due to my work as a brickies labourer

Everybody send emails to: MMosteller@skircr.com

Even if you're not from anywhere near an RCR resort send an email.

I sent this gem to them, I really hope I get a non-formulaic response

Dear Mr. Mosteller:

I read with interest your decision to remove all man made jumps from RCR terrain parks. I believe that this is an unwise decision, as some of the best jumps in western Canada are located in RCR terrain parks. What worries me most about this decision is the blatant ageism being displayed by RCR. Terrain parks cater almost exclusively to people under the age of 25. By removing the terrain parks from your hills, you have implied that the youth are not as important to your company as older customers. While people from the under 25 segment may not currently bring in major profits for your company, they will all grow up with a negative view of the company that shut them out. I have skied your mountains every year for the last 16 seasons. If you decide to build your terrain parks without jumps, I will take my business to hills willing to accommodate all users on the mountain. I hope to hear back from you regarding this issue.

Sincerely,

Matthew

if they do it...it will only be for a year, they will lose so much buisness to other resorts. They will HAVE to put jumps in again

just wait

In a email, that was about the same comment I had made,

mentionning what their prospects for the future were? when all the older people stop skiing.

and the younger ones who dont enjoy slalom ect, would remember, and prob would be skiing somewhere else teaching their own kids jumps. (like shooting yourself in the foot, maybe shorterm cost effective, but have lost a big portion of the new market. I am 46 and still like to jump, I started my kid jumping at 5 yrs at RCR that was ten years ago, So I dont think that this is industry leading, I think it is just financial. sure statistics will show you that Big Air is dangerous. thats a no brainer, hence Park Passes

maybe its just too much of a burden on them, insurance wise, Patrollers, Cat time, employees time ect.

Well it just sucks in my oppinion, I have been jumping for over 30 years, yes I've had some injuries,

but no I'm not a gaper I think lol, I always said to my kid, "I wish we had parks like this in the 70's and 80's

and now it seems we are going back to the safety mode of no jumping please or I'll take your pass away

aaaah fuck those assholes. not the rcr dudes they really have no choice if people are just gonna sue them every time they get hurt. I mean fuck the suers not the suees.
