NO ADS IN THE FORUMS!

uhh... that kinda defeats the purpose of having a messageboard where thoughts can be exchanged freely... how do you determine how one thread is more worthy than another? it's sometimes the lamest threads that get the most interesting...

Another thing I find ironic is that we are banned from creating advertising threads, yet a vast majority of people have links etc. in their signatures. I can choose to avoid threads that do not interest me, but every time I read a thread I will be subjected to a number of adverts in sigs. I would like to make it clear however I have no problem with this, it is simply idiotic to make such a big deal about advertising threads when this is the case.

uhh.. it kind of gets rid of 10 threads on the same topic week after week. And it's not about whether a thread is worthy or not, but, if a person has only the ability to make only 5 threads per category a day then they would take more care in using their thread credits (threadits). It would probably create more inter-thread conversation as well.

the way that most people use this thing isn't as a message board rather it is a chat room,

im down. i dont care as long as me watching trailers can occupy my time as a wait and twiddle my thumbs for it to start snowing.

Your NS identity reflects what you do and who you are.

We don't mind this, as it doesn't create extra threads. The only thing that isn't allowed is creating a thread on your own company.

I don't see how any company can complain or be dissatisfied with NS. You can get FREE press releases on the front page of the single largest concentration of skiers anywhere. Thousands and thousands of people see it, for free. So what, you can't make threads? If your product is dope, people will be making threads about it on their own.

i dont understand why any company would want to make a post in the ski gabber when they could make the front page of newschoolers FOR FREE. I always check the front page for industry news and such. now im not saying everyone is like me but everyone has to go through the front page to get to the ski gabber, and when they see NEW XXX TEASER on the front page they will click on it and check it out. some of these companies need to get more professional and advertise the right way. the only part of this i would disagree with is free movies but i am not really sure on the rule about that b/c bishop didnt clarify.

you shouldnt fight this so hard man, you probably have never had any or a limited amount of threads deleted as advertising. Personally, ive had many since i used to see the forums the same way you did. however, ive now realized taht its ridiculous to expect NS to host my advertising for free. yet ironically, they are now doing that too. i think this is incredible that press releases are now free. honestly, what other website can you advertise for free on? i think what doug did is sick as hell and i have no complaints about the new "strict" forum policy. thanks again doug

yeah i agree you cant tell people not to advertise talking about new releases and shit cuz this is newschoolers its what we talk about and always will, sorry

did you not read anything? Anyone not affiliated with the company is free to talk about whatever they want. All he is asking is that people don't self-promote on the forums.

I like the policy that's been in effect the past few months. It keeps the forums from being crammed with the same threads and it raises the salability of NS's advertising space. But there are the obvious loopholes; for example, Company X can just create an alias who makes a thread saying "Company X's movie is so cool! You all should see it!" Or the company makes a thread saying "Hey guys, can you give me some feedback on my new trailer? (by the way, the movie comes out this fall and we don't really care about your feedback.)"

your right i have only had a few but seriously people aren't going to be freaking out making multiple threads on a vast majority of the companys that advertise in ski gabber.

Yeah, all this talk of "companies" is fine, i too think free advertising for a product people will buy is not legit, but c'mon Bishop, think about the kids making movies of them and their friends and just trying to get their movie out to as many people as possible and get other people stoked on what their particular crew is doing. And the trailer page would work for this, but you need to update it to make it work, my friend sent you his trailer a month ago after the thread he made explaining the movie would not be sold, but would be availabe for free was deleted; His traier still is not on the trailers page. It's like Levin said, you're only cramping creative kid's styles by deleting trailers, and seeing the cool grassroots stuff coming from all over the world in the ski gabber is one of the main reasons I still visit this cesspool of hatred and juvenile frustration otherwise known as Newschoolers.com

Like has been joked about before, Trailer Gabber. Its a sick idea, the only thing that worries me is that if it dies people are going to come back here, where the people are. For example, today I needed computer help, now. Among other places, NS is usually already in its own tab, so I put my problem is NSG with a creative title, because the last reply to anything in Media & Arts was like 6 hours ago. In the same way, if Company X wants to promote a trailer, but the last post in Trailer Gabber is a week ago, they will likely want to go where the people are. You need to make sure its broad eneough to keep people busy, and we as members need to do our part by actually looking and posting, if this is going to work.

ever since beyond the bunny hill came out its been like someone shoved an 8ft dildo up your ass. you use to be so kind.

ps

sorry for the dildo remark just trying to get my point across.

and i agree with the ata shout outs.

sorry for the double posts.

i think im going to go cry in a corner.

I really don't see a problem with it. The amout of ads compared to other threads is pretty minimal. I think its part of ns, and really its a great way to spread the news. It should remain a free source avialable to everyone. Plus all these threads die eventually and only come out a couple times a year when the product is out.

whats the verdict on non-profit organizations?

as well, for store sales would it not be worth the slight inconvience of a few threads to allow some kid to save a few hundred dollars on product. if you had to wait for someone to say "yo, glacier shop has 99% off everything today", with out fair warning, there would be 80, 000 threads on kids bitching about how they just bought thier skis full price the week before. most of the time its just shop people helping out a fellow skier.

and since when was NS a democracy

About this non-profit stuff, and what Malone and hemlock already addressed, there are tens of movies coming out that are free this year (which could even be better than some of the vids that have to be paid for) so you can't go deleting threads about them, these are just people who are stoked to ski, to film and to share their talent with everyone else.

haha now everyone is going to make alias's like instead of "poorboyzowner" they will just make one that says "skinoob" or something and post the same advertizement, is that legit?

shouldn't this thread be in site discussion, not ski gabber? if you want to start getting strict on the content in the different forums.

i personally rely on ns to find out about when websites launch, when new trailers are up and where they are, and the hottest new products and where to buy them. i dont see the piont in deleting them

Wow, it all isnt too complicated to understand.

Its normal NS asks this, this way the site stays a place for people to discuss things, but not for company to OVER-hype their shit, for free. Just too bad people dont get the point.

Well now it doesn't matter anymore. Nothing is going to get deleted, just moved to trailer gabber.

So everyone who wants to get all your new trailer information out there, POST AWAY!!!!

Please hype the living shit out of your movie in there. No holds barred!
