They are different bands that get lumped together cause they're from the same city and came out at the same time, they are equally influencial, pearl jam has had the longevity but nirvana was more creative I go nirvana

Everyone speaks so highly about the bands' messages. I fail to see how killing yourself is a good message and does not damage your credibility. I admit, I know very little about the theory that Courtney Love killed him, but to me suicide is one of the worst things you can do. I give exceptions to POW's and terminally ill people, but not to rock stars.

I have a lot of respect for Nirvana and Pearl Jam and they both contribute to the evolution of music, no one can disagree with that. And after seeing Pearl Jam show in Montréal last sunday, I can tell you they are still unbelievable like they were in 2000 and in 98.

i didnt bother to read the first page of posts, but i will just say what i want to say anyway. Nirvana was a great band. if cobain hadnt have died, they would still be great and probably considered one of the best of all time. since he did die though, The band never hit full potential nor did as much for music as you guys are saying. All the major influence was after he died, because he died and created publicity.

i dont really consider pearl jam to be grunge. but i guess they are classified that way. anyway, i love pearl jams music, and have done more for the industry than nirvana....

pearl jam. nirvana is possibly the most overrated band in the history of music. They were talented and made good music and ended the big hair pop rock of the 80s (thank god), but they didn't save the world or anything; any 'greatest ever' talk is ridiculous.
