Nikon vs canon

and see I have a complete opposite view as him.

I also have a nikon but reason being is I think nikon has better glass than canon.

although ill go with the progressive one as nikon really needs a 80 200 F4

see i think tht canon has the beter glass and better pro models how ever nikons are so much easier to use and are better then canon if your on a buget

I have 3 Canon SLR's, 1 Film and 2 Digital. I think Canon's menu is easier to use and the L glass is better then Nikons Pro glass.

I have Canon because they have a better variety of lenses. However, each company offers pretty different things as far as bodies go.

For your intents and purposes (I'm assuming you're a beginner photographer) there is no "big" difference between Nikon and Canon. Sure each brand offers cameras that look different, feel different, and have different features, but their pictures will look virtually the same.

If you want a comprehensive comparison between Nikon and Canon, I suggest reading Ken Rockwell's article here: http://http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/nikon-vs-canon.htm

nikon bodies are interesting, especially a 12mp full frame that shoots 9 fps... canon is close but not there yet, the 1.3 crop is good but not a full frame. however the bodies are very complicated, too many buttons doing too much. canon L glass is expensive but so much better than nikon glass

one year canon has the coolest thing out there the next year nikon does.

for the most part as far as glass goes they are pretty comparable, nikon might have the advantage when it comes to their supper high end stuff. Overall you are going to pay a little more for Nikon's high quality stuff though.

For a consumer who just wants to take pictures, just go to a camera store and play around with one of each (40dx or 60d and whatever the rebel series is at now) go with the one that feels the best in your hand, and the controls come naturally to you. Nikon and Canon each have different menu set ups and image control functions.

For the consumer who is a more interested in photography and wants to invest in high quality glass, but does not have a ton of excess cash to spend, again go with which is more comfortable for you to use. But I do think canon has an advantage here because they have a good selection of high quality f4 zoom's and primes that are a little cheaper as well as the fancy expensive 2.8 stuff (17-40 4L, 24-105 4L IS, 70-200 4L (IS option), 200 2.8L 300 4L, 400 5.6L. Where as with nikon if you want to go for high quality glass you have to get the really expensive stuff (canon offers this as well).

For the professional, you should not be reading what I am writing, and be doing your own damn research.

Also one thing you might want to note is that Nikon lens's are black whereas all of canon's higher end long lenses are bright fucking white with a big red ring on the end. This does a really good job of saying hey I'm a photographer (and I may be taking a photo of you, it also does a good job of say I have $10,000 hanging around my neck and possibly another few grand in my bag. There are places where this can be annoying, and it can be convenient to being a little more conspicuous . On the other hand it can make you a little more legit if you care about that.

Good job NS theres no hate, i am impressed. Its really all preference, you can take amazing shots with both, so of the main things that stand out for me is nikon glass tends to be more expensive, but nikon strobes are better. I own two canon dslr's though.

if we're talking the higher end DSLR's, the main advantages are: (in my opinion at least)

Nikon: Better high ISO performance. I don't know if it's the sensor or the onboard algorithms, but you can get great results all the way up at 3200.

Canon: Flash compatability - all old EX flashes can use their original capabilities. Also, Canon's lens selection is arguably better.

For cameras at the 50D/D300 kind of level, I think it's totally personal preference as to the ergonomics and menu/control system and stuff. I prefer Canon.

truff, although i havn't used them yet, i hear the 50d and especially the 5d mkII are killing the high iso shots. i definetley hear you on the ergonomics, so many buttons and dials on the nikons, EOS buttons are very non complicated
